Sure... let's start with your name "Commanders". Many Native Americans find it offensive.

Next, let's go with your former owner George Preston Marshall. Here is a little quip about him:
"We'll start signing Negroes," Washington Commanders owner George Preston Marshall once quipped, "when the Harlem Globetrotters start signing whites."

In 1961, the Commanders were the only team in professional football without a black player. In fact, in the 25-year history of the franchise, no black had ever played for George Marshall. Sam Lacy, the gifted black sportswriter for the Baltimore Afro-American, called the Commanders football's "lone wolf in lily-whiteism." Their owner was "the one operator in the whole structure of major-league sports who has openly flouted his distaste for tan athletes."
Now... let's look at some of your players and their brushes with the law. A couple of these players have played for both of us.

Sean Taylor – Several infractions
Dexter Manly – Possession of Drugs
Mike Sellers - DWI
John Riggins - PI
Timmy Smith – Drug Trafficing
Deion Sanders - Trespassing
Billy Kilmer – DWI
Kevin Ware – PI
Jermaine Haley – DWI
Dana Stubblefield – Assualted his wife
Marlene Cooke (wife of Jack Kent Cooke) – DWI
Ray McDonald – arrested for having sex with another man in a public park.

You also have two more of infamy:
Dave Kopay
Jerry Smith

If you aren't sure what their claim to fame is see Ray McDonald above...

Pretending that Dallas is the only team with players of questionable character is ludicrous. Every team has had players with problems. "Our felon is better than your felon" is not a viable excuse either.

A few other notes:

Timmy Smith, RB was trafficking, yes. Distribution of cocaine, to be exact.
Mike Sellars, TE: not just DUI; arrested, possession of cocaine.
Barry Wilburn, CB: robbery.
Hogettes, Fans: public stupidty; acting like retards.
Lavaraneus Coles, WR: shoplifting, fraud.
Tony Peters, S: conspiring to sell 4 pounds of cocaine.

Don't count Spellman and Underwood they were class guys who had problems getting a disease under control. And another thing, I'll never forget this.

sorry Commanders fans. but 9/10ths of a football game occurs within 15 to 20 yards of the "LOS". and in THAT area... no safety is more feared than roy williams.

problems with them? none of them are the owners trophy nutball wife or a guy who used to play for ...YOUR TEAM...are they?

i dont know whats funnier- the fact that you actually took time to come up with a list when i asked for one, or the fact that you somehow thought that Commander players could hold a candle to the boys when it comes to bad behavior. how do cowboy fans now know the basic history of the team? north dallas forty, michael irvin, anyone? ...anyone??

unreal.

you're supposed to be the smart one of the bunch. what's your excuse?

There's a moritorium on shortcomings of ownership now? Or is because she's a nutball, we're not supposed to point out that she's a nutball? I guess I miss this point.

Since you have no problems attributing the problems of players that weren't drafted by the Cowboys to the Cowboys, or former players who had problems before or after playing with the Cowboys to the Cowboys, why in the world would you assume that the Commanders get a pass when the SAME players play for their team? If anything, it's worse, if you picked up the players knowing they had problems already.

I guess I don't get what you find funny about someone replying to your own request on a message board. You seem smug for some reason that your list of *known* racists, theives, and coke dealers isn't as long as ours.

In any event, the merits of a football team are measured by performance on the field, in which case you clearly are holding the little candle, and that's not even disputable.

The merits of the people who play the game are something different altogether. I have nothing but sympathy for people who have addictions, mental illnesses, or biases that ruin their lives. And I've got a lot of respect for the way the Dallas Cowboys as an organization tried to help people like Spellman and Underwood. Hill and Jones deserve credit for what they've done. You're the one who excerpted the line about Tui, after all. Go back and read it and tell me whether or not you think it is an appropriate subject to come on a Cowboy board and stake bragging rights to. Then come and tell me about holding candles and bad behavior again.

What ever gave you the idea that Trick is the smart one of the bunch? Personally, I wouldn't trust him to organize a drawer full of spoons. We just said that he spanked you.

Interesting... you had no problem looking up a list... directly from extremeskins I might add. At least I had the wherewithal to look up information for myself.

You wanted to talk character of the team and attempt to discredit our organization by some mythical evil team aura.

The fact that your team had an owner that was an avowed racist certainly plays into the debate. The fact that many of your "glory players" had trouble with the law plays into the debate. The fact that you have a mascot name that is on level with the "n" word plays into the debate. The fact that one of your highly touted stars right now is in big trouble with the law plays into the debate.

Your user name itself gives you even less credibility. While John Riggins was a fantastic player and quite a character, he was a slobbering drunk that embarrassed your team on several occasions, not to mention the fact that he is on your rap sheet list.

Do as I say, not as I do doesn't work. Your attempt to totally dismiss your own team history in order to somehow appear to be morally superior to ours is quite ironic.

first, its ironic that we are changing the subject here to W/L's, when all i have heard throughout this thread is 'roy is a character guy and sean is not'.

and you are changing the subject.

and no. it's 1-0 this year. you are holding the small candle.

The merits of the people who play the game are something different altogether. I have nothing but sympathy for people who have addictions, mental illnesses, or biases that ruin their lives. as trick said, its a list from extremeskins. i apologize for anything said against anyone battling mental illness.

i'll say it again, how is it that he posts a list and at least half a dozen posters like you believe he's got something? this is the knock on cowboy fans who live around here- most of them still think that aikman is still handing off to emmitt. these dolts above seem to have no clue that dallas has been infamous for bad/illegal behavior since peter gent came out with his book. if it werent for the raiders, dallas would by synonymous with bad behavior in the NFL.

you and your brethren should have waited til i provided a list before you jumped the gun. you would have saved yourself the embarrasment.

i'm not that obsessed.

its not mythical. unless youre a scientologist. sheesh- i gave you a list for petes sake. mythical??

The fact that your team had an owner that was an avowed racist certainly plays into the debate.

well, i thought we were talking players, but i'm sure i'd have brought it up if the shoe was on the other foot. i wont defend marshall in that regard. but i will point out that dallas didnt even have a team til 30 years later, so its not the fairest comparison.

The fact that many of your "glory players" had trouble with the law plays into the debate.

it's not even close to dallas list.

The fact that you have a mascot name that is on level with the "n" word plays into the debate.

now, thats a myth- and a whole new discussion.

The fact that one of your highly touted stars right now is in big trouble with the law plays into the debate.

maybe he's not. we'll see in the offseason. the fact that boys fans brought this up with no apparent knowledge of their own history is how we got here in the first place. one Commanders gets arrested and what? you think that wipes out dallas infamy? please.

Your user name itself gives you even less credibility. While John Riggins was a fantastic player and quite a character, he was a slobbering drunk that embarrassed your team on several occasions, not to mention the fact that he is on your rap sheet list.

i never attempted to dismiss it- why would you say that? i only responded to your post:

Seriously... Commander fans have no room to talk when it comes to brushes with the law.

Have have such blind homerism that you can't be objective, just as some you accuse here.

i said lets compare. we did. you lost. (despite the fact that the skins history goes back almost twice as far as the boys)

all you had to do was admit that the boys have had a little more than their fair share of convicts. thats not so hard.

Please, since the bp tenure we have had no thugs on this team, which is more then anyone can say about your current bunch of hooligans. WHile the fans you speak of are ignorant, you are just as ignorant as them since you are still associating the cowboys as the bad kids. Like you said, Aikman isn't handing off to Emmitt anymore, this is a different team.

Basically what I am getting from you is that it is okay for you to judge our team based on past player misconduct, but not fair to do the same to your team.

Wake up man, every team has skeletons in the closet and plenty more that never make the light of day. If you want to point fingers expect them pointed back at you.

Either you agree that these things do NOT define a team or they do. Which is it?
