Those 2 in the NFL? Curious - lost track on Whalen

The Claymores weren't a particularly good team, right around .500, but Whalen led the league in receptions, he was Clint's favorite target...

Whalen signed with the Iggles last offseason, then got cut... I still think he'd make a terrific receiving TE for a team that needed that sort of weapon...

Or he'll get his head taken off a few too many times by some defensive player with nothing to lose and everything to prove behind a suspect offensive line and a ragtag band of receivers. Henson will return shellshocked and worse than before...

Not every team in NFL Europe has a suspect offensive line... Hutch surely played with one last year, though...

Tell that to Kurt Warner and Jake Delhomme... or Jon Kitna, Jay Fiedler, Kelly Holcomb, Brad Johnson... or any of the other dozen or so NFL quarterbacks in the league right now who played over in Europe...

Yeah, like La'Roi Glover, Marco Rivera, Keith Davis, Brian Waters, Keith Traylor, Tom Nutten, David Akers, Adam Vinatieri, Dante Hall and Joe Andruzzi... LOL...

The TRUTH is, there are currently right at 190 players on NFL rosters who have played in NFL Europe... some of them are starters now, some of them are even Pro Bowlers...

Except there are no training camps going on while NFL Europe is playing their season... their championship game is in mid June, some six weeks before the start of camp...

It's pretty clear to me that you don't know jack about that league, that you have never followed it... in point of fact, the level of play is indeed a bit less than you'll find in the NFL, but it's somewhat better than even the best Division I college conferences like the Big XII or SEC...

There are some success stories from NFL Europe - But for every 1 success story there are 500 kids that never made it.....

I also think NFL Europe is more watered down of late - JMO

Those citing Henson's mechanics issues are off base. Its not that at all. It's his lack of experience playing past 7 Years. Its his struggle to grasp the speed of the game. The ability to mentally process, decipher and run an NFL Offense. Listen to Parcells - he has really laid it all out past year in his comments.

Actually, there was a lot of talk about how inaccurate Henson was in camp last year, and that DOES relate to changing his mechanics... not that the other issues you outlined weren't problems too...

500 might be a bit of an exaggeration, but your point is solid... if Henson goes over the Europe, he needs to dominate at that level...

Yes, people talked a lot about inaccuracy and a high number of ducks. These were problems that were not present in 2004 from what I saw.

One thing to consider is that if you are worried about your mechanics and whether you are about to throw a duck you are going to have a hard time concentrating on making your reads and avoiding the defensive rush.

This was a lost year for Henson due to a gigantic coaching mistake and someone should be held accountable (? David Lee).

I don't think you know what NFL Europe is for.

It's for lost cases when it comes to quarterbacks.

And in general it is for players who you are thinking about putting on your practice squad and MAYBE allowing to be 3rd string at some point.

People in NFL Europe are players who are of such low skill level they really can't compete in the NFL. It's filled with undrafted free agents, and some 6th and 7th round draft picks.

Sending Henson there to get "game experience" is a joke. He'd get more experience playing against skilled players in scrimmages in training camp.

I never disliked Henson but the odds are so stacked against him with lack of football experience. This was almost predictable from day 1 we would be here near 2006 having this discussion.

At this point I'm not sure what is in Drews best interest. And I think Parcells is in the same boat - Not all high school and college studs make the grade at the next level. Parcells has been in this game too long and in his heart I bet he sits Drew down like Chad and is honest with him.

My opinion and it is just that is Drew needs to move on and get a second chance somewhere. Then he'll accept what I think Parcells will tell him.

Funny - Parcells talked to and respected Landry..... Bob Lilly on Nfl Network said he regretted how distant and unpersonal Landry was at times. Landry's reply was its so tough having to tell a young kid or player he can't make it or worse yet knowing you might have to trade or cut the player who made it down the line.

You make a compelling case for Place kickers!

In that 12 year or so era you reference approximately 5000+ players were shuffled thru......

And Other than Warners 3 seasons - no franchise QB's there. Jake a nice QB and all - agreed

What's the big deal? All I see from BP is he thinks that Henson is doing great in practice. But now he needs some playing time. He can't get it now obviously because of Bledsoe, so we're thinking about sending him to Europe just to get him some game experience because he hasn't played for a while. I don't see anything remotely close to BP implying that he is sucking or stinking up the joint and now he's going to Europe to put up or shut up.

The latter is only what Nors sees.

What's so wrong with sending him to Europe? I don't quite follow the logic that somehow sending Henson to NFLEL in 2006 is the "kiss of death." Maybe he should have been sent over there this past off season, but I don't think even Parcells believed Bledsoe would play this well right out of the gate.

Bottom line...as long as Bledsoe stays healthy and performs like he has so far, Henson will never see the field anytime soon. We might as well get him some playing time somewhere. What's the harm?

Don't dare take this out on "Nors". Listen to what is being said and what is happening. Its all there for you - you decipher it. I have for a long time candidly if you feel the need to go there. My history on this topic is very consistent and spot on so far.

On a personal level I want what is best for Henson - and thats coming to a head this off season.

No, you want your personal opinion to be confirmed which means you want Henson to fail. That is really what you want here - be honest.

Wrong - Our team is winning thats what I want. Parcells has validated QB decisions past year.

Henson if he's failing is on him, not Nors.

You be honest, my personal opinion happens to have been spot on from day 1 on Henson. Thats not my problem.

You are right Nors. Our personal feelings expressed on this board really do not matter. Henson succeeds or fails on his own merits. I have not gotten much into the Henson debates but I have to say that it seems logical to me that game experience is going to be necessary for him to have any chance.

So, accepting that premise, how does that happen? He isn't currently good enough to start for the Dallas Cowboys...or even be the backup. So he either plays in NFLE....or he plays football in the NFL for someone else.

I'm not sure what the best answer is. But NFLE seems a logical choice assuming it is what he needs and I trust Parcells to know what he needs. Otherwise, we cut him and move on! I want the next QB for the Dallas Cowboys to be waiting in the wings. No more Q vs H or the other H vs R!

No doubt about it.

Someone above (Nova?) mentioned "Henson Bashers"... I only see one of those on this thread, and can only think of a few on the whole board. I think most of us were hoping Henson would succeed, but last year there were just too many hints from Dallas (and national) media members that Parcells didn't like Henson. When there's that much smoke, there's usually some fire.

Exactly rooting for and what is going to happen are two different things.
All the warning signs and clues were there.

I think a lot of "Henson's failing" is a product of his coaching - the decision to change his mechanics was a very bad mistake. His accuracy and velocity were very good if not exceptional last year and he was not getting an inordinate number of balls batted down - it was a case of fixing something that wasn't broken. So now he's standing back in the pocket and worried about his mechanics and throwing a bunch of ducks.

I want Henson to do well because he has the tools to be a fine QB and has shown great potential. He needs to get some experience and confidence and sending him to NFLE is a good idea. Firing the current QB coach would also be a good idea.
