I'm not resigning him unless it's on a deal with his back trouble in mind. Potential to be a really good player, but you can't tie money up in that back. It's riskier than bringing in a high priced free agent from another team.

Totally agree. No bonuses. Pay as you play.

There certainly is a lot of risk involved, but if he has a monster year, I think you've got to take it in some form. The best way might be a prove-it franchise tag.

Yeah, franchise would be ok, depending what that number is. Or maybe his team is reasonable and they work with Stephen to get his money but stage it so that it's pay-as-you-go. If he has a true monster year, though, somebody is going to pay him.

I'd treat him about the way we treated Leary last offseason, only adjusted for the position he plays. If he can break somebody's bank, more power to him.
