Cowboys agree to extension with Scandrick

It's crazy we haven't got the Dez contract done yet.

Hopefully we see Dez's deal get done in the next week, Carr restructure, and a Adrian Peterson trade in the next 2 1/2 weeks.

Like @Alexander said, Cowboys wont set the market. I think they have made that obvious. If Thomas or Green get extended/signed whatnot then i believe the wheels on a Dez contract will speed up.

You should try being a little more optimistic...:D

Well you have to fix those deals to get Peterson.

Carr getting a paycut and a Dez deal open the door to get Peterson in here and win the Superbowl with ease.

So we added a year and gave him guaranteed money to do it. So an extra year cost us $9.5 million. Good deal for Scandrick, not that good for Dallas, but it again shows that those who are worried about cap room have a poor understanding of the funny money used to make it up. Contracts are made to be manipulated.

I agree, Cowboys won't set the market, but they are also taking a risk by letting someone else do it. No matter what, Dez will be one wealthy young man once his deal does get done.

As of right now the "bar" is set at Calvin in terms of top contracts, i doubt Green or Thomas get a contract equal to or greater than that, but i guess we will see. I would think Dez will fall somewhere in between.

Oh, I know what you're saying...I just interpreted that you were saying to get all three of those done in the next 2-1/2 weeks and was thinking that may be a little ambitious.

Well, I think you're absolutely right about that...I just kind of look at Megatron's deal as just that..."The Megatron Deal"...meaning he has his own market and then everyone else has another. Dez will be part of the group that sets what I'll call the "real" market (at least until the next round of young phonoms come up for contract).

how many contracts is this for scandrick? 3 or 4? he obviously has a lot of fans in the organization, primarily the head coach. i think he's got the work ethic and demeanor on/off the field Jason Garrett desires.

Money well spent

I always laugh when I see this stuff. Top 10 paid based on what? Can we talk guaranteed money? Because they are have to be counting MO in that number (Jones, MO, Scan, Carr). Carr is the only guy on that list with a serious investment and Jones is a cost controlled rookie.

Sensationalist headline is sensationalist.

You know, I saw that and thought the same thing...Carr's contract is out of line with his performance, but after that...who the hell are we really paying?

I know Scandrick is a good leader and hard worker, but paying him $9.5 million when he averages 7 pass breakups and 1 interception per season is excessive. I wonder what is guaranteed beyond the $4M this year.

I wonder if they are going to have to go through this again when he runs out of money. It sets a bad example IMO.

It does not set a bad example. Scandrick reworked his deal a while back with low 2015 and 2016 salaries. He did so in good faith knowing that Jerry would address the deal if his play was above the level of the deal.

Teams have the option to cut a player at any time if their play does not justify their pay. Good teams reward guys who play at a level far above their salary. Bad teams say "screw you. You signed the deal."

Good for him.

I just hope this doesn't get other players to start wanting to renegotiate their deals.

I wonder what Leary is going to do...? I hope he decides to stay here and be a backup.

I don't think Leary is gonna be a backup...................JMO.

So they added a year and doubled the money? I'm not exactly happy with this. We're paying him like a good player now. If he plays like one this year, it'll be the first time. Seven int's in seven years. Brandon Carr had 6 ints in his first two years in dallas and double the picks for his career. Scans career high int's in a season? Two. Gonna have to step it up, buddy.

Maybe a better way to look at it is "who else could you go out and get for $20M over the next 5 years" that would be an improvement? I'm certainly no expert on talent evaluation (hell, I'm not even a good amateur at it...), but it seems to me that he does very well at locking down his man. I know this much, I'd hate for the team to be without him, at this point.
