I'm fine with $4 million a year for 5 years. I think he's well worth that price. But I hope that it was made crystal clear to him and his agent that this is the last time that his deal is reworked.

That probably should have been said the last time. Not often you hear about a contract being worked over three times like this.

Very true. Scandrick strikes me as a guy who's lousy with his money. He keeps taking lower overall contracts to get up-front money in his pocket and then runs back to the pay window when he's quickly burned through it.

I'd be sure to tell him that window is now closed. For the next 5 years.

This is a weird one to me for anyone to have a big problem with. It's an extension that brings him to 4 million a year. That is a lot, lot less than anyone playing Pro Bowl level cornerback is getting these days. The contract does not set a precedent with other players because it is such a rare situation where a player is playing at a Pro Bowl level but the extension doesn't pay him at a Pro Bowl level.

It's ridiculous when you consider the shape of that group.

Regardless of how much money is "real" or "funny" for the team to have been that concerned to go into a draft with a corner as priority #1 after investing that amount is criminal. Just a series of bad investments that started in 2012. Well, even before that if you count the misfire on Jenkins.

Remember, Byron Jones has yet to sign, so that could make four.

True but his pay will be based on where he was selected. Last year the 27th pick was paid 4 years, $7.71M, $6.24M guaranteed

27th pick: Deone Bucannon signed a 4 year, $7,709,202 contract with the Arizona Cardinals, including a $3,926,692 signing bonus, $6,237,947 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,927,301. In 2015, Bucannon will earn a base salary of $770,418. Bucannon has a cap hit of $1,752,091 while his dead money value is $4,836,274.

I would think it is likely about what Jones will be looking at

That is correct. That would put him in the top 15 or so, right behind Church, ahead of Frederick.

We have significant financial investment this year in 1 cb....and this sensationalist headline comes out and people slobber over the implications.

Barry Church won't even make $3m dollars this year. He takes up less than 2% of the cap. We could cut him this year and save money on the cap.

LOL

where is everyone getting this 3 mil/year scandrick was previously making?

It was a 5 year $27 million contract. Combined the extra 9 mil he got and now it averages out to 7.2 mil/yr.

He's not worth it. Marginal cornerback that had 1-2 above average years and got paid well because everyone else in the secondary was trash. The huge investment we've continuously made in our secondary, and the even bigger lack of return seen from the investment, is horrifying.
