I've heard just the opposite about Scandrick and his money. I'd have to dig around, but from what I recall, he's pretty sound with his money.

I just think he's asking for a raise like most people do.

I think you're right, but that's not nearly as dramatic as the other take.

I don't understand this deal--there was no need for it.

The Cowboys had Scandrick under contract for the next four years at a great price. He had no leverage, other than being a malcontent in the locker room. Perhaps the Cowboys figured a few million here or there was worth buying peace. If that's the case, it sets a bad precedent, as players shouldn't be granted a heckler's veto. The other possibility is that they're setting the stage for Carr's contract negotiation. This makes much more sense, but I still wouldn't have done it.

This reminds me a little bit of the deal given to the player formerly known as Jay Ratliff when he still had multiple years left on his team-friendly contract. We all know how that turned out. The contract didn't buy peace, and injuries/age caught up to him. Scandrick is 28 years old, and injuries will catch up to him too, long before this contract expires.

This is a bad move in an otherwise stellar offseason for the Cowboys' front office.

The amount of $ per career interception is astonishing, especially for a guy who ideally is a nickel CB - albeit probably the best slot CB in the NFL.

It's hard to believe that Scandrick has only managed 7 interception in his 7 years of play.

He didn't like making ~$90k pay checks when he was a 5 year veteran. He and Crawford were our best players on defense by far. He's making less than Carr and Mo. He has made overall a lot less than them.

Now legally he has no leverage but that is not the point. Scandrick does have the right to go to his employer. I actually applaud Jerry Jones for this type of thing. Now the one concern is Scandrick pulling a Ratliff and mutinying but he hasn't done that. Scandrick came back early while Ratliff pretended to be hurt though.

I understand that there is a fixed budget and everyone wants to be Ebenezer Scrooge but I have zero problems with a guy that will reward his employees for exceeding expectations. The Cowboys are not a struggling sole proprietorship and they set a good example. I also think that moves like Ratliff and Scandrick give him the ability to go to Free and hopefully now Carr without losing credibility in the locker room. Garrett speaks constantly about awarding merit so this fits with his vision as well. This type of stuff to me is as American as apple pie.

At the end of the day after all is said and done, I cannot look at his cap hits for the next 4 years and complain.

That considers the new contract parameters.

Go Cowboys!

He wasn't making less than Mo. He signed an extension before his rookie contract was up and that 2nd contract when looked at separately averaged around 4.5 million. He later had multiple team restructures where he got his money early in bonus. He must have liked getting those bonuses so he requested one again last year. But for the team to fit it in the cap and spread out the bonus they had to add two more years along with lowering 2015-2016 base salaries which was turned into bonus. Those additional years lowered the average of that 2nd contract to around 4 million which is also the average of Mo's rookie deal. This new restructure/extension likely takes that contract average back to 4.5 or possibly a little more. We will have to see more of the details.

So if I am reading this correct...................old contract was $10.5 over next 4 seasons..................$2.625 per season

New contract.................$20 million over next 5 seasons...................$4 per season.

That's about a 52% annual pay increase....................looks like in this game of chicken, the Cowboys blinked

Where is the extension? he earned it. what if he blows out a knee on that one year franchise tag?think before you post.

Dez and Scandrick aren't even close to a similar situation. Scandrick was already playing on a below market deal and even with the extension will still be below market with limited protection in 2 years. Does Dez want to sign a below market deal with only 2 years of guaranteed money? If he does then he has every right to be upset. Otherwise your point is completely invalid. Maybe you should take your own advice and think before YOU post.

I would have less of a problem with it if he didn't serve a suspension last season. But with Carr and Claiborne being who they are guess the Cowboys had no chance.

That is not including all the restructure bonuses.

Forgot all about the suspension. That's something to think about.

That would be a false assumption.

If Scandrick had one year or even two left on his deal, I would be solidly in his corner.

But coming back to the pay window two years after you just re-upped, with 4 years left on the deal, is pushing it. And he should be very happy that the team even considered it, much less re-did the deal.

I never want to hear him talking about restructuring again.

I agree, this is like the 3rd or 4th restructure in just a couple of years?..................hopefully the team told him THIS IS THE LAST TIME WE ARE DOING THIS!!!

We paid a high performer a reasonable amount for his services without a major impact to our ability to win. The alternative is to lose a viable member of our team and affect negatively our ability to win games, or risk him upsetting a locker room.

I'm good with it.

I don't think this considers the new extension. The new extension has him through 2019 this has him through 2018.

I don't think this considers the new extension. The new extension has him through 2019 this has him through 2018.

That page hasn't been updated yet.

I heard he gets a bump from 1.5m to 4m this year and from 3m to 5m next year.

I haven't seen anything about 2017-19 yet.

He already had higher cap numbers because of previous signing bonuses and restructures. This will push it even higher.

Evidently the Cowboys helped put a smile back on Orlando Scandrick’s face without putting a huge burden on their salary cap over the next five seasons. Basically the Cowboys added one year to his contract and a total of $9.5 million over the next five years. Nearly half that total is a non-guaranteed $4 million base salary in the now final year of 2019 when he will be 32 years old. They also gave him a $3 million signing bonus, which means prorated over the next five years only adds $600,000 to the cap each year. And, the average of his next five base salaries total $3.3 million . . . not bad for a starting corner, right. So just consider those numbers when reading some of the bloated ones being tossed around. Also, remember the previously poor $1.5 million base salary for 2015 would have been $5 million if the Cowboys had not advanced him the difference in signing bonus during the restructure the end of the 2013 season . . . at his request . . . .

So in 2011, we signed him to 6 years

Think about it this way. In 2011 he signed a 6 year, 28.2 million deal which equates to 4.7 million per year from 2011 to 2016. Then, in 2013 he signed an extension that paid him an additional $9 million over the life of the deal and extended it through 2018, making the original deal an 8 year deal for $4.6 million per year. Now, he has signed an additional extension that pays him another $9 million over the life of the deal and adds one more year, thus making the total deal worth about $5.1 million per year.

So, all the adjustments to his original contract results in going from $4.7 million annually over 6 years to $5.1 million annually over 9 years. None of this terribly earth shattering.
