The market always 'moves'. And shame on him and his agent if they somehow didn't realize that.

And, again, you're bringing up players who actually reached free agency. Scandrick was too busy rushing to the Cowboys for more money to ever have the patience to reach it himself.

He wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants money now and later. I don't want to hear from him or his agent about his contract for 5 years. If they do, I hope Stephen Jones fines and/or suspends him. The Cowboys have repeatedly been more than reasonable in dealing with him.

Markets move in both ways (rbs, carr, etc). clubs ultimately hold 95% of all leverage. I can't get too worked up if a player asks for a raise and gets it. Wouldnt get too worked up if the club denies the request either.

Asking for a raise should not be vilified, the requestor has no power to grant

If you deduct Scandrick's rookie deal from his original extension. He made more than that 3 million average. I believe it was around 4.5 average and then when he asked for more money up front last year and the team added two more years the average then dipped to 4 million (avg of the whole 2nd contract). This new money probably takes him back up to the original 4.5 average or maybe around 5. Will have to see the details.

I'm usually pretty good with contracts, but OScan's deal has been confusing for years.

He has been re-done a couple times and restructured on top of it.

I do know he had 4yr/10.5m left on his deal with only 1.5m this year and 3m a year after that.

He gets 9.5m in new money with his salary bumped up to 4m this year and 5m next year. Seems fair enough.

I have yet to see what his salary is supposed to be in 2019, but that is not a big deal right now.

That would be a false assumption.

If Scandrick had one year or even two left on his deal, I would be solidly in his corner.

But coming back to the pay window two years after you just re-upped, with 4 years left on the deal, is pushing it. And he should be very happy that the team even considered it, much less re-did the deal.

People are looking at this wrong. I think you have to mostly consider guaranteed money in football. As I understand, he wasn't guaranteed anything anymore, just the $1.5m this year. The $3-4m/yr the rest of the existing contract is not only 1) far below market rate but 2) not certain. So if he got hurt this year, he'd get his rookie-like $1.5m and *poof* cut for nothing.

Now he's getting $4m guaranteed this year, and $2m more non-guaranteed salary next year. The Cowboys were obviously going to pay him his salary this year, so in essence, he's getting a $2.5m raise, then probably a little more money next year since he will probably still be on the team. After that, if he's not playing well, he won't see any of the last years. The $ figures in 2017-2019 can hardly be looked at. If he's on the team, he'll be playing well and most likely below market. If he gets hurt or declines, this can be a 2 year $9m deal.

I'm not vilifying him - this time. While he was under contract, I would agree that he was seriously underpaid. But this isn't the first or even the second time he's gone up early to the pay window. And while I'm fine with this time, I would have a real issue with it if he does it again.

Right, the 1.5m looks bad this year but he has been paid up front 2-3 times before this.

Kinda surprised DAL re-did his deal again, but the new money isn't outrageous.

Dez has to be upset.

Can you blame him? they keep giving this guy extension after extension. and Dez does not get an extension. he get's franchised. i don't blame Scandrick one bit. he used his leveraged and got yet another contract out of Jerry and Stephen. that's 4 contracts for Scandrick. i would not blame one bit for being pissed.

Dez is getting 13m this year and probably 15m next. He has no room to gripe.

I somehow think this contract is not going to upset Dez at all, this deal will look like peanuts compared to the deal Dez will get in the end. I have no issue at all with Jones taking time on a deal of what will likely be of a very high magnitude

Not sure Scandrick had any leverage, he was under contract. His only option was to sit out and he was not going to do that. Dallas took care of him now I expect him to go out and earn the money he just got

Not sure how the Cowboys had any leverage against Carr at that point. If you want to tell Carr he needs to restructure to take less then how can they tell their best corner to make a pittance.

We have significant financial investment this year in 1 cb....and this sensationalist headline comes out and people slobber over the implications.

Barry Church won't even make $3m dollars this year. He takes up less than 2% of the cap. We could cut him this year and save money on the cap.

LOL

We got church on a damn good deal then. Less than 3 mil and he has lead the team in tackles 2 seasons in a row by a decent margin.

I've heard tell of him wanting to but a $3 million home in California. He was on some reality show and didn't come off real well as it was told.

Yeah, he came off as a butthole on the show, but that had nothing to do with his finances.

He bought the home and sold it recently for $2.1m -->> http://www.latimes.com/business/rea...p-orlando-scandrick-house-20140827-story.html

Then he recently bought a new home (which also looks more family friendly to me) -->> http://www.realtytoday.com/articles...ick-buys-woodland-hills-home-1-75-million.htm

They don't other than releasing him. I like Scandrick but he made the deal and in my view you don't say hey I did good so that contract I signed I don't want that any more I want more. If I hire you to do a job for me I expect you to do the job not come back and say he I did the job really good so I want some more money. In making deals, make a deal you can live with or don't make it at all.

and all contracts are 2 parties not one. Dez is going to do what he feels is best I don't blame him Dallas also is part of this deal and if they are some reservation then those things need to be addressed as well. Once a deal is done Dallas is on the hook for it. I think a longterm deal will get done
