It’s funny. DAK’s fans don’t care if he’s paid 40 million or 40 bucks. We are just happy he’s here and signed. The people emphasizing the money are the ones who don’t like his game, but the money means nothing and will not affect us signing anyone we want on defense. Just say you don’t like that he’s still here....I can respect your opinion about the Cowboys franchise QB as a player, but pointing to the money like 40 vs 35 is the difference between a SB or the cellar is stupid.

It’s Jerry’s money. Dak is the QB. Like it or not, get behind this roster or take a long walk.
I remember fans hating what we paid Dan Bailey, but one year later, his contract was a bargain. The money with all the loopholes is irrelevant. Focus on the player.

The first three years average $42 million per year, per Adam Schefter of ESPN, and includes $66 million to sign and $75 million in year one, the most in NFL history.

How does the 75 Million in year one work.....some are posting a year one cap hit of 22.5mil....

The $66 million signing bonus counts in that number, but because it's prorated (spread out) for cap purposes only $16.5 million of it counts toward each year.

So $16.5 million plus a base salary for 2021 of $9 million equals $25.5. Not sure why some are saying $22.5 unless the bonus or base is smaller.

No trade clause in the contract, but I guess you can always hope.

Jerry was never going to let Dak get away. Deep down, anyone who has followed this team for years knew it. Some just chose not to believe it.
This is dependent on the player though right? Like with Watson, he would have to sign off on it, etc.?

Nah, no booze for the most part, fruit punch Kickstart...yes I'm 36 lol :D I'm settlin down, I like Dak, he's top 10 just deng lol. Do we ever win in these negotiations, how was JJ any sort of a businessman with these deals?
It wasn't JJ.
It was SJ.

This team has a real problem that isn't going away for decades.

You guys realize he's top 10 qb pretty food and gets better each year AND his cap hit won't be 37.7 tag but probably 22.5 or so million this year and 30 or so the next year. By year 3 the cap should be back up to early to mid 200 million, it's not a horrible deal. THE AVG ISNT THE CAP HIT

Dak got paid good for him.

I can only hope it translates to postseason wins.

So, they held out all this time and then gave him everything he wanted anyway. *** was the point?

Dumbest front office in sports by far.

Meanwhile, Tom Brady is about to sign another reasonable contract and go to more Super Bowls.

You get your money though Dak, a lot of fans only seem to care about you getting paid anyways.
I like you referencing the 1 QB that signs for less and would never sign here.
Outliers are fun for arguments.

I'm not advocating for Dak, but I am advocating for a realistic view of the landscape, as it is.

Yeah well, fix that.

I'm sure they're going to try. It just won't be in one off season. Unless Dallas can get lucky and draft a rookie like Ronnie Lott and trade for a player like Fred Dean, like the 49ers did so long ago. I don't see it happening next year.

Because he started the game.

This is the most laughable defense of frantically trying to pad this loser's record. He played 4 full games and went 1-3. You don't leave a close game in the 3rd quarter and win anything.

We were ahead and driving in the game when Dak went down. Is he more deserving to be awarded a win from a freak onside kick that Atlanta completely botched to hand us a win?

Team game. Teams have records, not QBs. But if you're going to count wins for a QB, at least look at how the player contributed or not to the win.

Might help if the Cowboys put something more resistant than a turnstile on the other side of the ball. They're not going to 40-39 their way to anything.

I'm not one of those who is 40 vs 35. I'm 40 vs under 10 for a good rookie QB for 5 years so a good team can put around the QB.
I hear you, but we couldn’t draft a QB at 10 without giving up all the draft capital needed for the defense. The defense must be built, much like the offense has been, in the draft. We’ve been significantly under the cap for two years, even with Dak franchised, yet we still didn’t go after impactful defenders.

So what this 5th and 6th year option I’m hearing?

Hmmm ... that could definitely let Dallas lower some hits and move some money around if needed. That's one reason the team wanted a longer deal.

This is just dumb. They wrecked us. Why do people say we can move on? What happens if next year goes bad and we can’t tag or trade? I’m
A fan as I’ve said all along but this contract is plain stupid

Exactly. The only person “moving on”, is the gimpy Qb that got paid. His worshipers think they’ve won something but the reality is that every week when he plays the microscope will intensify

They now have to defend him and his bloated contract......we aren’t moving on as the fun is just about to begin

Last year they made an effort, but they had a huge qb contract looming. Let's see what happens this year.
True, really didn't expect Griffen esp but that's the effort I'm talking about. I'm half ready to hear about how good FA already was though; Dak would've been the top FA, so we signed a top FA (it's how they craft that narrative early which will be telling)...but hope not and hope we're players early bc the window starts now type of thing. Quality over quantity please JJ/SJ.
