Eifert is a very likely target of several teams in the 20's and Dallas may be trying to entice a few to try a trade up for him, either in front of us ensuring another player falls to us or with us to get additional picks. A lot of the motivation for allowing this to leak could be that they don't want to take him but don't want him to be there for NY either.

While I would welcome Eifert to our team(especially since i'm a ND fan), I wouldn't want to get him for #18 because he would still have to battle Hanna for 2nd TE spot which means he still wouldn't be starting right away and you can't have someone who isn't going to start right away as your first pick. OL/DL/S hell i'd even throw in RB as well, is more pressing than a TE. OL/DL/S/RB is what our first 3 picks should be(this is with the mindset that we are not trading at all could change depending on trade) in some form. Hanna has already shown alot of promise but is still, at best, the 5th man down(Bryant, Witten, Austin, Harris/Beasely) so Eifert would be in the same boat. Is that what you want for your first rounder especially everyone that has complained about Spears and Spencer?

That's what the guys on the ticket keep saying . That the cowboys are in love with this guy and would consider him @ 18 if he is there . This after one of them saw their chalk board had s 5 guys circeled (effiert, vaccaro, lacy, reid, carridine) Their other pet cat is apparently Tank Carridine .

They are late to the party.

I think Effiert, is the real deal, I would LOVE this pick, but not over Cooper.

I feel the same way. If Copper is there, you grab him. If he's not, you grab Eifert. The guy is a stud. If neither are there, trade back and snatch the best safety in the draft, Matt Elam.

I'd disagree, i'd be moaning alot because if we don't protect Tony better, the Te won't matter, Rb's won't matter etc. We have to make that our #1 priority Thursday. Then saftey being 2nd priority. Hanna has showed me that we pulled of our steal last year with him. Tony is another year older today we don't take care of him we will have another disappointing mediocre season.

2TE sets protects the QB better.

A back can help protect either side of the formation and up the middle. How does someone inline help more?

Glenn Stretch Smith has also name dropped Eifert. That said, he probably doesn't fall out of the Top 15. I he'll go ahead of Cooper and well ahead of Warmack. I think he goes to Miami at #12. It's a shame, because he would have a huge trickle effect to shore up multi weaknesses in the offense ... helps fortify the perimeter pocket protection, gets overrated/awful Vickers off the field and makes our subpar group of secondary receivers less of an issue.

It forces the defensive ends out wider and makes a longer route to the qb. That usually helps the tackle and makes a 2 way go by the end a little less likely. It does hurt a less athletic tackle that likes to get to their pass set early.

So someone from the Ticket was able to get inside VR and look at the draft board and now has reported what he saw on the radio?

Well Gordo did break in and get onto Lambeau field one year (and subsequently got arrested).

It's not surprising to me to see Eiffert rise as we get later in the draft process and the real decision makers start getting involved rather than just the info gatherers. The thing about 12 Personnel is it's a nightmare for defenses to scheme around because of the balance. There are only about 5 LBs in the entire league who can single man cover the better TEs in the game, and most teams don't have two Derrick Johnsons. So do you stick with base defense and leave your linebackers exposed against Witten and Eiffert in coverage? Do you go to subpackages and risk the Cowboys running the ball and/or leaving your nickel back on a TE giving up 5 inches and 40-50 lbs. ? Do you cover a TE with a safeties, and go single outside on Miles and Dez. That's the pick your poison scenerio teams have to decide when they face teams who can put out effective 12 Personnel sets.

Well if they go TE with the 1st pick, then Romo better run for his life once more, since he won't have anyone new up front to protect him.

If I had to put money on it I'd guess that Eifert isn't there at the 18th pick for us to draft. I hope he is, because the Giants pick behind us and need a Tight End so hopefully we'd have someone looking to jump in front of them in a trade scenario.

Considering a TE protects Romo and we'd have five more picks plus solid free agent possibilities, this post is pretty silly.

Teams have been trying to defend it with 3 safety looks and their aren't 64 good safeties let alone 96.

There might not be another player that would help our run game more than the guy that can get a linebacker off the field in exchange for a slot corner or slot safety while still keeping 5 passing game weapons on the field. It is the reason Kenny Vaccaro is almost universally viewed as a top 20 pick. It is not his 5 picks in 4 years.

Honestly, it really depends on how they feel about Eifert and what he can do for this team. If pick 18 comes along and the top of their board consists of second round grades along with a guy that hey have graded as the next Rob Gronkowski, then they need to pull the trigger and look for linemen in round two and three.

Ya it is silly when the center snaps the ball, and rushers are suddenly in Romo's face with no time to thinik. Sure is silly. But we have 5 more picks !!!! And solid free agent possibilities (like the solid free agent possibilities we signed last year for the OL) !!!!!! Your right, Romo will be eating the field silly, pretty often.

Considering a 1st round TE would be used more to CATCH passes (and we already have a HOFer for that) trying to justify taking a TE in the first round is pretty silly.
