no more assuming than we can strike gold again with a non elite prospect. The simple FACT is you have a better chance of hitting on a QB the higher round you pick him in.

Don't let the FO know about this strategy...they will pick Prescott in the 1st round:thumbdown:

i can see it right now,

Commissioner walks on stage

"with the 3rd pick in round 2, the 34th pick overrall in the 2016 nfl draft the dallas cowboys select Dak......(Goodell bursts out laughing) Prescott.....(continues laughing walking off stage)"

CowboysZone reaction by some

"i trust Will McClay"

Now, now. Goodell doesn't announce the second round pick - a Cowboy legend will - in the past, we have seen Darren Woodson, Moose Johnston and Gil Brandt do the honors.

Whoever it would be this year would not say good pick like Woodson did last year for Randy Gregory (and, he wasn't a good pick).

I like Prescott as a developmental backup but drafting him high is just crazy.

No earlier than the 4th.

I'd rather have the RB in the 1st or 4th.

QB/DE in 1, DT, in 2 and CB/WR in 3 would be my preference.

I just don't love any of those players for us.

I see Bosa as a strong side DE, which outside of Gregory (who knows how long he is around?), is all we have for DEs. I don't see the wisdom in drafting another one.

I think Henry is not all that quick. He's a big back but big backs who are not very quick get hammered in the NFL. If all he's going to bring you is the ability to pound it into the line, then I'm not sure how valuable he will be or for how long?

Prescott, I am not really sold on. His completion percentage for anything over 5-7 yards is not very impressive. In fact, it's pretty bad. You look at him and there is nothing that jumps out at you physically IMO. The thing he does best is break the pocket but in the NFL, that's not going to really be of much value IMO. QBs who do that for a living in the NFL end up out of the league.

Those are just my opinions.

Agree 100%!

I'm of the all-or-nothing opinion. If I'm getting a QB, I want him at #4. If RB is my focus, I want him at #4.

I believe it would be futile to pass on one of the top three QBs (If they are there at #4) or Elliott if they are high on their (Cowboys) board so they can take a defensive position of need and then try to make up for it by taking a consolation QB/RB in the 2nd. Quite frankly, I don't think Henry, Prescott, Cook, or any of the other prospects being talked about, are the best value in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

For where Prescott is projected to go, he's not a bad prospect at all. Not understanding the hate.

The hate has less to do with what kind of prospect Prescott is but rather because of two issues:

1) The Cowboys will try to sell Prescott as the solution to their QB problems for the future and that's why they didn't have to go and grab Wentz or Goff. And because of that............

2) They'll likely overdraft Prescott

That's the problem and where the hate comes from. I have no issue with taking Prescott if they did so with one of the 4th round picks. But I fear he's going to be nabbed in the 3rd or maybe even in the 2nd if the Cowboys move around in that round.

Prescott at 34 would make me seriously question why I waste time following this team.

You had us taking Lynch with our first and this is what makes you depressed?

I dont trust Bosa or Prescott. Lynch may be a project, but at 15 we traded picks and could still get us some starters. I dont like him at 4 though.

From McGinn's annual write up:

6. DAK PRESCOTT, Mississippi State (6-2, 227, 4.78, 2-3): Billed by the Bulldogs as the most decorated player in their history. "This was not a good team but for two years they competed against the best teams," one scout said. "He was the entire team there. The guy's just a winner. He's got patience, focus, makes quick decisions, good arm strength, nice touch, stands tall in the pocket under pressure." Posted 23-10 record and had a passer rating of 99.6. Also rushed for 2,501 yards and 41 TDs. "He motivated that team, held guys accountable," another scout said. "I just don't see the vision downfield. He's a very streaky thrower. There will be a place for him in the league. I'd take him over Tim Tebow hands down." Arrested for a DUI in mid-March. Wonderlic of 25. "He's got no accuracy, got no vision," said a third scout. "I don't think he's an NFL quarterback." From Haughton, La.

Here is my projected draft, off recent events and rumors;

Zeke
Bullard (I think they're hiding their interest in him)
Prescott (just pencil him, we can all see it)

Im not a big Henry fan but he could be good here.

I worry about him getting to the 2nd level.

Once he gets there he will be dangerous because of how powerful and explosive he is.

I also don't worry about him having very many negative runs.

On the good side, the analytics are apparently really good on him. But you don't win drafting quarterbacks in the middle rounds.

My real fear is that Prescott won't totally suck. He'll be OK. And we'll spend seven or eight years on him with midtable-ish results and maybe an early playoff exit here and there.

You know. Like the last decade.
