This makes sense, though. Can find a RB in the middle of the draft. Can get LBs in the first two rounds. Can't get a premium pass rusher at 27.

Interesting that, if true, he must have checked out in terms of his work habits and fit as a teammate.

He was the only guy from the team at De'Angelo Williams' mother's funeral…for what it's worth.

I'm so bored I need an update on this Greg Hardy thing. Where's the juicy FA action?

Yep, at #27 you will lucky to get a premium pass rusher unless someone falls, free agency would be the best route this year presupposing you can find a match between skill and price.

Don't disagree. But Marinelli's defenses typically produce takeaways. His defense was 1st in the league in takeaways with the Bears in 2012. The Cowboys finished 2nd in takeaways in 2014. In a passing league, it's nice to have LB's that can cover & play the nickel...and Carter had 8 passes defensed to go along with the 5 Int's & a TD. As I mentioned, he seemed to finally be coming into his own a bit and appeared to be more comfortable in the scheme. On the flip side...Ro is an intimidator & a chief reason the finished 8th vs. the run.

IIRC, both he and Ro had game-clinching Int's...so they can of course matter depending on the situation. As mentioned, I love Ro...just worry about how long his head/heart stay in it. He seemingly liked the situation in Dallas.

Yeah, that's the cool thing about the Tampa 2. It basically played Moneyball with situational football before metrics were a hot ticket item. Focusing on QB pressure, keeping CBs on one side of the field playing a zone with a limited number of reads and routes to worry about. It plays the odds really well when it comes to generating turnovers -- but that's the thing. Carter is a great athlete, but it was the scheme that put him in the right place and the right time so often. He just happened to have the physical tools to make the plays (although admittedly the mental side did seem to start clicking for him more as the season went on). If you find a player with similar measurements and better instincts, he's an All Pro from the beginning of the season.

You can find a premium pass rusher all throughout the draft. One of Hardy's caliber though...not sure.

just as an fyi.. hardy was a round 6 selection.

but the gist of the point is valid.
hard to grab an immediate help as a pass rusher at 27.

tho there is little meat to this story as of yet, he is the most physically gifted pass rusher in FA and dallas has stated that it the one position they want to address in FA.
i still don;t see the money working out but i'd love to be wrong about that.

Boy do people have the wrong idea about what RKG is...

Someone who loves football. Not someone who never did anything wrong in their life.

Sure, but when it's a young DE that can put up 15 sacks, it's not hard for a team and fan base to convince itself he loves football.

If Mincey did the same thing Hardy was accused of, something tells me Mincey's love of football would not help him stay in the land of RKGs.

I can't speak for anyone else (which you're probably right about) but my definition of what I think the team means doesn't change. If Hardy was known as a talented, lazy guy I would not consider him a RKG and I don't think Garrett would either. Scandrick is a RKG to me and to the team and that didn't change when he got popped for a molley last offseason. He is a great team mate and loves to play the game... him getting suspended didn't change that.

If the team thinks Hardy is going to continue to get in trouble for DV, then I don't think they'd want him in Dallas and I don't think he'd be a RKG for them... or by my definition.

That was always a given based on everything I've heard in Charlotte. Still, some guys have issues with women. If that's the case with him, it could still be his undoing, good teammate or not.

Yeah unfortunately. Too many teams involved. Jerry would have to move some $$$ around to get in the ballgame.

Gray Hardy was a 6th rounder.

There are exceptions and players that develop that were free agents even, this would mirror QB's like Tom Brady but the rule is you draft starters in the premium rounds.

You do not follow the exception but the rule for draft evaluation, some premium picks are busts, some later picks develop but the rule is you want top end talent at pass rush if possible, it is probabilities.

First 3 rounds are for starters after that it is lottery. You hope you can get depth guys that can develop and contribute. If you strikeout on day 1 and 2 your draft hinges on later round gems and UDFA that is not where you want to be.

Same here. If it happens, well---release the Kraken.
Oh no. You reminded me of his nickname. If he is signed here, then prepare for the overused jokes.

On another note, I am somewhat surprised you are on board with this possibility.
