Cowboys have made offer to Waters

Personally, I'm highly doubtful they preferred a 36 year old who hasn't played football in a year and is notorious for hating camp to a 33 year old that has started every game since 2005. What the Cowboys want right now is something they can count on, Waters isn't that but Moore isn't going to show up so it has to be SOMEBODY.

Yeah I don't buy it either.

lol so now we have bernadeau defenders b/c of a few glowing practice reports from broaddus?

Defenders no. Hope yes. Wow you mean people can't look at what's been happening in practice and say you know what maybe he is finally healthy. It wasn't just a few reports from BB he played pretty well. But whatever floats your boat. I for one am not blind to think a 36 yr old OG who hasn't played football in over a year and doesn't know the scheme is suddenly the answer. There is a big difference between being in shape and being in football shape and I don't care what he's done in the past. He hasn't done it at 36. Sorry if it turns out good great if not it will be a waste and we will probably wind up cutting a younger player.

I normally don't like to whine or rue or anything, but man, I really wish the team would've addressed to OL properly the last couple of years. I like that they're looking for help, but I just don't view Waters as savior, or anything more than a last-ditch effort to fix a major weakness on the team

21:10 mark. Gotta love that whiff. Keep it up Bernie!

FYI I agree with you about Waters (age) but Bernie and Livings are dead to me.

Sorry that I don't have hope for a player who has missed BOTH offseasons since signing with the Cowboys. He cannot stay healthy and the guy practiced, what, twice thus far? Waters made the Pro Bowl at age 34, what makes you think he can't do it again with a year off to recover? The dude is probably a future Hall of Famer. These rare type of players know how to take care of their bodies and how to get in shape. Bernadeau is another story.

Some also forget that we signed Waters as an UDFA in 1999 as a TIGHT END, and released him. KC signed him in 2000 and the rest is history. It's only fitting he finishes with the team who gave him the 1st opportunity.

You mean a multiple Pro Bowler with no injury history versus a career spare who sucks.

No harm in bringing him in and letting him compete. I'm all for competition!

I guess the club has a different view of Bernie than Broaddus does. I hope this is for the Vet's min.

Exactly, If Bernie actually ends up being healthy and is as good as he has been practicing of late, then by all means he's earned the starting job. If Waters comes in and is better than Bernie, then Waters is the starter. Truth be told, neither Bernie nor Livings has had any legit competition prior to this year and have been anointed as starters. Competition is great. If Waters does indeed sign, the Bernie vs Waters camp battle will be one of the most intriguing story lines for the next couple weeks.

And I tell you what, I'll be a hell of a lot more confident with having the winner of Waters/Bernie battle starting than Bernie starting w/o any competition.

The year off can actually be a boon for a player Waters' age. Look at Keith Brooking. He looked terrible his last two seasons in Dallas, and didn't even start in 2011. Then, in 2012, Denver signs him, and he starts 14 games on one of the better defenses in the NFL.

Waters is much more likely to be productive at this point than Brooking was last season.

Yep, agree with everything you said. If Waters comes in and Bern beats him out, more power to him. Either the starting OL or the depth or both should improve.

36 isn't that bad for an Olineman, worry about the time he's missed but Waters could walk onto the field Day 1 as the best Guard in the line, his only questions are what shape he's in and if can he stay healthy.

I have to agree with this, let them battle it out and may the best man win. The team will be better and deeper for the battle, and give us more options as the season progresses if there is an injury.

Right now we are one step from starting scrubs, we have to change that and Waters is a step in that direction. Sure complain all you want about starting Livings or Berny, but they make very good backups if healthy and with Leary and Waters starting.

Good. I hope he accepts and adds to what we have going on the line. I think Bernadeau would be ok, but there is a chance Waters would make the line a very good one.

If for no other reason, I'd like for Frederick to pick his brain for this one year. Waters did it the right way...

Agree with you
Bringing in waters can really solidify the line by allowing Fred to play center and Leary LG
the only real question would be RT

I don't know that Waters can't be 'counted on'. He signed with New England on Sept 4th and went on to a Pro Bowl year and helped that team get to another Super Bowl.

I feel that he's a high character vet who knows well what it takes to be ready for an NFL season.

I am on the fence with this...I don't have faith in Berny being the answer, but I could say the same thing about Waters being 36 years old and out of football...but, if I am making a decision in a vacuum on this, I sign Waters and make him compete for the job

LOL @ those thinking it will be a "competition" between Waters and Bernadeau. If Waters signs, he WILL be plugged in as the starter and there will be no competition.

Veteran minimum contract? No chance. He'll have some guaranteed money and incentives as well.
