Shottenheimer runs primarily “inside zone”, not man blocking. This is what PFF says about Shottenheimer’s blocking scheme preferences:

Interestingly, Schottenheimer's presence as offensive coordinator could push the Cowboys to make “inside zone” their primary run concept rather than the outside zone variation the team has leaned on heavily in the past (though Dallas employed a steadier diet of man/gap concepts in 2022 than in the past). Schottenhimer's Seahawks ranked third in inside zone rate (41.1% of called runs) during his tenure, while the Cowboys ranked 19th (20.0%) this past season.”

He, along with Solari run a zone blocking scheme. Solari has been looked at as one of the best run-game OL coaches in the league.
Zeke is better suited for inside zone plays, so he’s a lock to be back next year, probably with a little pay cut.

Schottenheimer took the Jets to two AFC Title games on the back of his power OL - Nick Mangold led and deep shots to Santonio Holmes - they had the Steelers beaten in Pittsburgh no way the should have lost that game.

Anyone wanting a much better running game and a lot of play-action, should be thrilled with the Shottenheimer/Solari pairing.

In fact, the primary problem that Shottenheimer was criticized for in Seattle was his lack of creativity as a play caller, not his offensive design. Luckily for us, McCarthy will be calling plays, so Brian will just be implementing the offense. An offense that will be much better running the ball and will use a ton of play action…something that I have been begging the team to do for years now.

With Shottenheimer/Solari, the offense will be much tougher and will play hard-nosed football. And, as PFF says:

Cowboys fans will be happy to hear that hiring Schottenheimer would likely mean a move away from the hitch/curl routes that were so frequently leaned on during Moore's tenure as offensive coordinator. The Cowboys targeted hitch routes the fourth most in the NFL; however, Schottenheimer appears to favor routes where his receivers are on the move rather than a stationary target, as his offenses are littered with drive, shallow-cross, spear and “China” passing game concepts — none of which have a stop, curl or hitch route baked into the basic play.”
That last paragraph sounds like a disaster in waiting for Dak. It will be interesting to see if these metrics about Moore's offense leaning on hitch/curls changes now that he has Herbert. My money is on yes but we shall see.

He was employed by Dallas in 2022 as a Coaching Analyst, whatever that means.
It was a Kellen Moore safety blanket...

Thankfully Prescott carried Kellen Moore's simple space rocket offense and we didn't need Shottenheimer now we do

The OC is here to install the HC's shceme though again he will be helping implement it not calling it or drawing it up. MM is on the hook for how the offense goes this year... again as it should be.
Exactly. Why would anybody here expect the organization to hire an “outside” OC with an different philosophy than the HC that’s calling the plays?

once it was announced that MM was calling the plays everyone should have known that we would hire a like minded OC to run the day to day stuff

When you have offensive minds out there that you can go after instead you go after people who are already here. Might as well have kept Moore. I guess you like 28 years of failure. Your like an Eagle fan.
It is common knowledge that McCarthy is running the offense. I do like back to back 12 win seasons and being competitive. I like winning.

I’m undecided but optimistic it could work out well for us

Establish the run, play action and movement in WR patterns instead of hitches. Was reading one of the criticisms of his was predictability in play calling, but he won’t be calling plays so that’s not a concern. I certainly don’t see a reason to be up in arms. My bigger concern is not having faith in McCarthy as a play caller but I’m open to seeing what happens there as well. Moore‘s Offense just never seemed a good fit for our players.

My issue is that McCarthy and Schottenheimer are oil and water. Brian has ran 500+ times every season he has been an OC. Mike wants to pass the ball. Will be interesting to see how they make it work

One season of Schottenheimer and we'll be begging for Kellen Moore to come back.

His past offenses have not been highly ranked so that’s a bit of a head scratcher
to make him OC
And Schottenheimer LOVES TO RUN THE BALL
But McCarthy is a West Coast Offense Guy
So he LOVES TO PASS THE BALL
That West Coast Offense is all about QUICK SHORT PASSES FOR 1st DOWNS
BUT Shottenheimer believes in RUNNING THAT FOOTBALL FOR FIRST DOWNS
BUT McCarthy is CALLING PLAYS
Sooooo…….Maybe they’re gonna go 50/50????
2 Offensive Coordinators With 2 Different Philosophies
There could actually be some COOL FIST FIGHTS ON THE SIDELINES THIS SEASON
Are there betting rules on the forum ???
I’m taking Shottenheimer
He has a mean nasty looking attitude
It might be more entertaining watching the sidelines than watching the field

Those Cowboy teams in the 90's didn't beat themselves...they were always one of the least penalized teams in the league. They were very disciplined and executed their assignment nearly to perfection. They just lined up and punched their opponents in the mouth every single play...teams knew what was coming, but when you're beating to the punch every play you wear down.
Sure, the salary cap has had an effect on how a team is built, but i think the main reason is the mentality of the players...there's no accountability, a sense of entitlement. Money has changed the game in other areas more than the cap. It's changed how players practice and how coaches coach...no more asthma fields.

The salary cap was meant to even the playing field, especially for small market teams...not because they wanted to win ,but because of profit sharing ,,,you can blame Jerry for that.
Sure and that offensive lines was able to stay together for 7 years. Of course they are going to be in unison as opposed to units that deal with overhaul every couple years.

You can 'think' all you like but the roster change over 91-95 as opposed to times after is empirical evidence.

Southern California weather isn’t as hot as Dallas.

Can’t blame KMoore for wanting out of this mess.

Dak gets a lot of coaches and players fired.

Btw, look at the coaching job KMoore did with Rush.

McCarthy is a misnomer as a West Coast offense guy. He LUVS to run the ball and call passes off the run. He's a run first guy really. KM was vastly different. This can work with the hire of BS.

I wasn't just referring to the OL, I was referring to the whole team in general...the way they were coached, and how players responded. After Jimmy left so did the discipline...Hookers and blow were the headlines. Bad drafting and stupid trades...Jerry's ego has been a constant hurdle.

Look at the Patriots and how they operated with Belichick...created the best dynasty run the league has ever seen, and did it during cap years. And it wasn't all Brady either.
Year after year they won in different ways...even with Matt Cassell. The main component was the structure and the type of players they so fit, they drafted well and didn't look to be in the splashy headlines. The front office stayed out of Bill's way.

Teams are looking for that quick fix and if that doesn't happen in 1 to 3 years they fire the coaches and start over. If the front office doesn't believe in the coaches then how can they be respected by the players? The Steelers are a good example of how a front office believes in its coaches...they've had 3 in the last five decades. They've drafted well and have played the same brand of football for over 50 years. Winning starts at the top...it's a culture.
Im not talking about an occasional super bowl appearance...Im talking about winning during the cap years. It can be done.
The Cowboys problem is Jerry...we all know that.

Bill Callahan was their OL coach.. and before he was there, BS coached the offense for two years and the running game sucked.
