Akoye Video breakdown of OC Brian Schottenheimer.

Mike Solari new OL coach:
" Additionally, it would be hard to justify maintaining Solari's position purely on the merit of his pass protection influence. After all, keeping the quarterback clean has been a never-ending issue for Seattle, leading to 204 sacks of Russell Wilson and Geno Smith over the past four seasons, with the former absorbing 191 of those. Solari's offensive lines have also allowed a whopping 689 pressures, per Pro Football Focus.... "

Whereas it will be McCarthy's offense, ..will Mike have Shott and Solari scheme-design the Run game ?

From early indications, it is looking like a transition from zone blocking to more power- blocking ... if we were changing OL block scheme, then wouldn't Mike Munchak be the
best OL coaching candidate as a power blocking scheme ?

He's been consistently bad at being an OC. He's a journeyman, at best, riding on his daddy's coat tails.
This won't be Schott's offense ... He won't have Kellen- like control ..

It will be McCarthy's GB offense .

He'll likely be like Pete McMichael per Sean Payton ....Eric Bienemy to Andy Reid ....

After Cowboy-Killer Stevie opened his mouth about another decade of failure under Dak (which I believe he wants), now this OC news....anyone still want to try to say Jerry wants to win now more than ever? I'll wait.

Shottenheimer runs primarily “inside zone”, not man blocking. This is what PFF says about Shottenheimer’s blocking scheme preferences:

Interestingly, Schottenheimer's presence as offensive coordinator could push the Cowboys to make “inside zone” their primary run concept rather than the outside zone variation the team has leaned on heavily in the past (though Dallas employed a steadier diet of man/gap concepts in 2022 than in the past). Schottenhimer's Seahawks ranked third in inside zone rate (41.1% of called runs) during his tenure, while the Cowboys ranked 19th (20.0%) this past season.”

He, along with Solari run a zone blocking scheme. Solari has been looked at as one of the best run-game OL coaches in the league.

The 90s Cowboys didn't trick anyone. They could tell you the play in the cadence and you still couldn't stop it.

Are you saying women don't know football?
This is not the 90s anymore where you can just stockpile so much more talent than your opponent that it doesnt matter if they know what play is coming.

In modern football with a salary cap and free agency, the talent is too spread out so the difference between the best team and literally the worst team in the league is not that great. The Texans didnt lose by 50 every week, they almost beat us and even the Chiefs.

So you have to use misdirection, you have to be able to run multiple plays out of the same formation, stuff like that.

Why do you think playcallers cover their mouth with the playsheet on the sidelines if it doesnt matter if the opponent knows what play you are running? You cant play football today like you did 30 years ago, it just doesnt work.

Anyone wanting a much better running game and a lot of play-action, should be thrilled with the Shottenheimer/Solari pairing.

In fact, the primary problem that Shottenheimer was criticized for in Seattle was his lack of creativity as a play caller, not his offensive design. Luckily for us, McCarthy will be calling plays, so Brian will just be implementing the offense. An offense that will be much better running the ball and will use a ton of play action…something that I have been begging the team to do for years now.

With Shottenheimer/Solari, the offense will be much tougher and will play hard-nosed football. And, as PFF says:

Cowboys fans will be happy to hear that hiring Schottenheimer would likely mean a move away from the hitch/curl routes that were so frequently leaned on during Moore's tenure as offensive coordinator. The Cowboys targeted hitch routes the fourth most in the NFL; however, Schottenheimer appears to favor routes where his receivers are on the move rather than a stationary target, as his offenses are littered with drive, shallow-cross, spear and “China” passing game concepts — none of which have a stop, curl or hitch route baked into the basic play.”

This is what I was hoping for, I cant believe we were 4th in the league in curl routes.

Get the WRs on the move and not be totally stationary targets where defenders can just jump the routes for easy picks.

If the new OC does nothing but take the playbook and rip out the page with 4 curl routes at the sticks, I will be happy:yourock:

Yeah, for me, what is vital is to get rid of those routes, install a more effective running game, and use a lot of play action off of that run game. Those things are a certainty under Shottenheimer, which should make the offense much better and help out Dak, significantly.

Which should really excite all Cowboys fans. It is precisely what I’ve been wanting for multiple years. I’m tired of asking for more play action,

Exactly right. Schottenheimer will install the offense (with McCarthy’s influences) and them Mike will devise the game plans and call the plays.

Like I said above… the main complaint about Brian in Seattle was his unimaginative play calling, not his offensive design. The design is what all the fans have been asking for: Tough run game with a lot of play action passes.

This is from a PFF article:

Unfortunately, Schottenheimer's offenses were often criticized due to their predictability on account of a lack of creativity as a play caller — those aren't the kind of critiques that will inspire Cowboys fans after the team jettisoned a boy wonder for this retread candidate. Luckily for Dallas, the predictability of Schottnehimer's play-calling shouldn't be an issue because McCarthy will be calling plays. That could allow Schottenheimer to focus on what he does best: designing an offense that intertwines the running, play-action passing and dropback passing games at a high level.”

Kellen, Dak and that offense hit the ceiling, time for a change. It might be worse but worth a try.
Exactly.........I keep reading that Moore had this vaunted #1 ranked offense but where did this offense go the last two years in the playoffs against the 49ers?

Its time to try something different.............you know what they say about doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Those Cowboy teams in the 90's didn't beat themselves...they were always one of the least penalized teams in the league. They were very disciplined and executed their assignment nearly to perfection. They just lined up and punched their opponents in the mouth every single play...teams knew what was coming, but when you're beating to the punch every play you wear down.
Sure, the salary cap has had an effect on how a team is built, but i think the main reason is the mentality of the players...there's no accountability, a sense of entitlement. Money has changed the game in other areas more than the cap. It's changed how players practice and how coaches coach...no more asthma fields.

The salary cap was meant to even the playing field, especially for small market teams...not because they wanted to win ,but because of profit sharing ,,,you can blame Jerry for that.

Those play action passes will open up the passing lanes for Dak....with about 75% of the routes being intermediate to short his accuracy should be higher and his turnover rate lower.
As for a better run game I think we'll see a combination of zone and power blocking schemes....that too will keep defense off balance. I hope to see that stretch play back in the offense...I think that was Zekes best play. He basically took the handoff on the corner off the tackles hip...he got a head of steam before he received the ball. I don't know how they thought it was a good idea to put Zeke standing next to the QB in shotgun and hand him the ball flat footed...I hate that play! They ran it about a dozen times a game...trash that play.

I just cannot understand for the life of me how proven mediocre coaches like Schottenheimer keep getting jobs.

The good old boy system really works.
Yep another retread product of nepotism. Yet many members here will say "Rooney rule" when someone outside of the good ol' boy system comes to interview for a coaching position. Funny how that works.

B S they aren't cheap. You guys complain no matter what they do.
When you have offensive minds out there that you can go after instead you go after people who are already here. Might as well have kept Moore. I guess you like 28 years of failure. Your like an Eagle fan.

It's a club, and they would rather fail each other upwards than let in new people.
