Cowboys looking at Josh McCown

I thought the McCown choice was about strong arm and physical stature (as well as being available) that Jerry and Stephen have in controlled praise, pointed out many times that Kellen Moore does not have (although Moore has many things like knowing the system and being a good leader). Looking at the last few thrusts by the Jones family at Lynch, Foles, and McCown) are all tall and strong armed.

But McCown comes down to one important fact: he knows the "philosophy" of the offense through Hue Jackson even though the terminology might be different. Just like Weeden and Cassel and even Moore, the decision is more to do with having to coach less, even if the player is old, weaker, undersized, or just not a winner. It's all about not having to spend the time teaching the system to a new QB. I wish they would. They might be surprised. After all, Romo was not exactly the prototype Coryell QB, but Romos adaptation and interpretation of the Coryell offense has made the offense what it is today for the Cowboys.

But then again after last year, I'm not even sure that the coaching staff is capable of shaping and "coaching up". Jerry seemed disappointed when the "coaching up" that he was expecting to happen last year didn't happen.

From the outside looking in, Foles looks like the no-brainer pick, jmo.......He's young. He was born and raised in Austin, He's won games in the NFC East and he's been a Pro-Bowl selection...So why isn't jerry signing him??? Money??? Just wondering.

And born and raised in Austin my makes him a good QB in what manner?

This dumb, Texas is the bestest attitude folks have is completely irrelevant to actual football performance.

Throw that out if you are trying to attract an older guy looking to close out his career close to family. Come on

  1. He needs a job.
  2. No starting jobs available.
  3. Aging vet that has a recent injury history.
  4. Loaded offense including best OL in football, one of the best WRs in football, one of the best TEs in football, and the #4 player in the draft at RB
  5. So if he does get to play he has a chance to up his value for next year.
  6. He's from Austin, so he gets to come home.
  7. He's supposedly a Cowboys fan.
He signed with the Chiefs.

What does McGee have to do with Dak?
Picked in the raw QB drafted in 4th round with the hopes he can develope intona good backup.

Anything more then a solid backup after the 3rd round at QB is lightning in a bottle

And then we found Romo. Undrafted.

Josh McCown is quite likely to cost a king's ransom, according to BTB. It might exclude him from the picture.

Much the same can be said regarding Mike Glennon. The options seem to be getting slimmer by the minute.

CLE is not keeping 4 QBs. We might have to wait, but it won't be for all that long.

I don't get at all why TB would consider opening a hole at QB2 with the players they have on their roster behind him. Even if they're going to lose him next year, he's worth more as a one year backup than we'd likely give up in draft picks. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

We shouldn't be in this situation, anyway. We blew it in not bringing in a vet when it was easier to do earlier in the off season. I really don't get our plan going into 2016.

Agreed, it seems our plan was to settle for Moore because the others might cost too much. As it now stands, the cost might be more.

I'm glad to hear you say that. I see no logic in their 'plan' either.

And at this point? Stick with what you have unless someone gets released before the start of the season.

Foles is no longer an option, McCown costs too much, both in salary and draft compensation, and Glennon would make you completely alter your long-term plans at quarterback on the fly.
