Cowboys looking to trade for more picks...

It's certainly possible Romo could be traded but I just don't think you can get anywhere near what he's worth with only one year left on his contract.

I'd take two 1st rounders for him

or

a 1st, 2nd and a high conditional pick if he hits certain incentives.

It would have to be a top 10 1st for me if not higher if we're just getting one. I just don't see a team being willing to take that risk when he can leave the very next season.

Agreed. The question is, who's Dallas' starting QB in 2013 if Romo is actually traded? Do they have a competition between Orton and someone like Fitzpatrick? That pretty much has 5-11 written all over it...

For me personally, if Romo actually was traded, I'd like the team to draft the top QB they can and start him immediately. An Orton season would be painful.

The 2014 draft is soo QB rich and deep though. I'd rather chalk it up for one season and go after Bridgewater in next year's draft!

Is 8-8 really that much better than 5-11 ? If they can get the right amount of value in a trade, I have no problem with taking a step back for a few seasons to rebuild.

A FEW seasons?

Even if Romo is resigned, the info will go public at some point. It may be a situation between Romo's agent and the team or it could be as simple as money. Only time will tell.

Yes, but as of now, only the top heads know what's what.

I'm still not buying that there's any real rumblings of a Romo trade. If there actually was, ESPN would probably be going nuts right now with crews camped outside VR.

If that's the case, then Ware & Witten should be on the trading block too. If we are in rebuilding mode for a few seasons. Heck, anyone on the roster over 30.

You're probably right, but if I were the Cowboys, I would definitely listen.

More than likely, Romo will be our quarterback for 2013.

I still think we should just let him play out the season. If the Cowboys do not make noise in the playoffs, its time to give up on the "Romo Friendly" era and move on.

I have to disagree. Lets be real...this team is not, in any likelihood, going to be a team ready to make noise in the playoffs next season. We might as well trade him now then for far less than he's worth rather than just letting a franchise QB walk away for nothing. That would be absolutely unheard of. And for a good reason. The very idea of just letting a QB of Romo's caliber just walk away would be beyond insane.

The three or four seasons that it would take to rebuild is not long at all compared to the 17 years of .500 football. Many fans have been happy through this drought and still support the decisions made by the team. What difference will a few more years make? If they are rebuilding, at least there will be a valid reason for these subpar seasons.

If Romo is not resigned, they should trade all the older players and build around the younger core group.

And in another 5 years, the younger players become older players, and we'll trade them too. Since we aren't going to have a QB on Aikmans or Staubach's level. If Romo couldn't achieve that, I doubt we'll find one any time soon.

But we have not had 17 years of .500 football. In fact, we have never won less than 8 games when Romo plays an entire season. We have won division titles and even won a playoff game with Romo.

People just assume we will draft a new QB and we will be off to the races. What happens if that next QB is Ryan Leaf or Jeff George? We went through 17 starting QBs between Aikman and Romo, so I find the argument that anybody can replace Romo to be laughable.

You got teams like Cleveland and Buffalo that have been looking for franchise QBs for a decade, so dont tell me you can just pick one up in next year's draft and be done with it. We could be looking at 5, 6, 7, 8, or more years before we find our next franchise QB.

And I define franchise QB as a multiple probowler. Romo has been to 3 probowls. Before Romo, our last probowl QB was Aikman. There were 17 different starting QBs in between them. Now if you can guarantee me that we will not go through another 17 QBs to find our next probowler, I will be more than happy to let Romo walk. However, if you cant promise me that, I am not going to throw away a 3 time probowler for nothing.

You don't consider that Romo is not going to be here anyway. Even if he is resigned, he doesn't have that much longer to play. Romo is not the young stud QB that he once was.

Actually he's much better now, he's more mature, he knows the game better, he leads better, he takes charge, he reads defenses better, he understands situations better. He's much better now then that young stud QB that you mentioned.

Actually, I thought Romo showed serious signs of regression last season. He's reached his ceiling IMO.
