Cowboys looking to trade for more picks...

Let him play his final year and see what your draft slot is next year. If your in top 7 then you take your QB of future. If your 8-8 again and sitting in middle of first round they should trade up. I like next years group of QBs in draft.

Yeah, I have come to the same conclusion. Let him play out his contract. I'd like to see him perform, knowing that he has to show the league what he's capable of and deserves in a new deal.

Now, if today they can get a first rounder or more for him, then just accept the trade and go with Orton. But of course that's not happening. Garrett won't be left with Orton to prove himself. 0% chance.

By the way, I don't want to see any further mortgage of the future as in trading away 2014 picks. I think they did enough of that with all the restructures. If anything trade for more 2014 picks.

.
Just curious.
Do think he can possibly some how play harder?
He already lives in the film room (relatively speaking) and has given various body part to the cause.
And on average, he already ranks in the top 5 stats-wise among active QBs (not saying he is a top 5 QB).
All an individual can do is play the best he can play in a team sport.

We should just trade him now if we are not extending him.

Norm said they would probably do this in one if the post game shows this past season.

Forgive my ignorance, but who is "sullybaldhead"?

Jeff Sullivan. Cowboys writer or something associated with organization lol Something like that

If Romo goes, the Boy Genius goes right out the door with him. Garrett destroyed Romo's career with this Madden OC crap for the last 7 yrs and no way in hell do I want Garrett anywhere near our new QB.

Might as well, since it seems we will have a fair amount of comp picks next season.
Seventh round choices at best. The types of contracts Phillips and Ogletree have got and Jenkins is likely to get will not fetch anything more. Spencer was about the only free agent that could have fetched a decent choice.

The guy to trade for picks is Ware.

He could fetch a ton, and frankly, I think he's close to done. He's not special anymore.

I have a hard time reading that without laughing.

Jason Garrett. The next fall guy for the lunatic owner and his son.

I said this earlier this week and I'll say it again: Only for a top-five pick and at least another pick in the 3rd round, minimum.

If "Baldy" is right, doesn't that mean we have to live with a giant (17 million?) cap hit for Romo this year?

.......he wouldn't bring that much IMO nor should he. He's a solid guy now and that's it.....nothing spectacular and you know he wears down in December: there is some tread left on that tire but a high 1st and 3rd? No way....although I'd do that in a SECOND if I was JJ....no doubt: but no one would offer that I'm quite sure

He looked not so special late in the season because he was playing with one arm.

If he's on the way out & we're looking for more picks then this is a good time to deal him. Cleveland, Arizona, Buffalo, & Jacksonville are in dyer straights to get a QB. Personally I don't want to see him go, I just want to see a NFL caliber Oline in front of him not a trash heap.

...they are all rebuilding teams that want a YOUNG QB to build around...not a vet. Tony needs to go to a team that's CLOSE to winning and needs a playmaker at QB. I just don't see that team right now although a case COULD be made for Minnesota. Ponder is WAY behind Romo's ability but apparently they believe in him for whatever reason.

@SullyBaldHead: Cowboys really like the depth in this draft, don't be surprised if they trade future picks (2014-15) for more selections this April.

This would be ********, this is a weak draft "a la 2009"

This draft is weak at the top. I really only believe there are like 20 guys who seriously worth a 1st but from 2nd down to 4th round, this draft is really good. There are lots of guys at positions that are not usually available in the lower rounds. This is a very deep draft IMO, just not as good at the top.

They just gave Matt Cassell a contract, so they have some doubts.

The draft is not remotely weak...it's very strong, in fact. You must be referring to 1st round QBs. Then yes, it would be weak.
