Boykin, 5-10 and looking more weight-room strong than his listed 176 pounds (an observation made by me and assorted staffers) doesn’t have a fitness problem. But he may be dealing with a reported “degenerative’’ issue in his hip or leg. (Boykin asserts that there is no problem, and that misinformation spread by Steelers DB coach Carnell Lake is the source of this angle.)

Would like to bring him in. Really wanted him when he first came out. He could play slot day 1.

I like Mitchell, Thomas and Olatoye but would gladly switch out Boykin and Thomas.

Scandrick, Mo, Carr, Boykin, Mitchell and Olatoye would be decent

If his hip really isn't an issue, why not if the price is not silly.

the nagging question is why he is all that available.

He's a proven veteran. If the hip checks out, he would be a great add for veteran depth instead of relying on some younger unknowns.

Blimey! Again, we agonize about a possible CB for depth. While at the Cat and the fiddle last night, eating the stale fish and chips, I got thirsty and drank one two many Guinnesses and lamented the state of the state of our defense. Two many questions, mate, two many suspensions, too many players with subpar talent. Clearly, we have a tale of two cities: A great offense (as long as Romo can walk and throw) but a defense that clearly belongs in the lower 16, possibly in the bottom 10. How did we get to this point? Draft. Or lack of it.
How can we get out of it? Good drafting led by competent men unlike Sir Jones and his increasingly rotund son Stephen.
Can we get a decent defense through FA alone? Not likely. I feel like another 4-Guinness night come on, blokes.

Bryan with his brilliant insight as always...
Well, I don't think you sign him now and guarantee his contract. I think you just work him out and maybe add him week two. Otherwise you'd have to bring him through camp, cut him, then try to bring him back.

For the record, there are a ton of members here who don't post often and who are neither scared nor rarely around. They just prefer to lurk for content. Posting is great. Lurking is great. We've got our share of posters who might be better off taking a lesson from the lurkers, honestly.

Your honor, I'd like to present exhibit A:

Congrats. And now you can go back into hiding.

You do know they will have to,cut 40+ players between now and the point at which salaries are guaranteed? Why not sign him and evaluate him all offseason? If he isn't worthy of a guaranteed contract then cut him. You probably could then resign him after week 1. If his workout was good and you want another CB, then go get him. You have all kinds of options if he doesn't work out.

The assumption there is the player will roll over and take that kind of treatment. Maybe he will, maybe he wouldn't.

No idea why we wouldn't sign this guy. Of course, with the success this FO has had recently, who am I to judge?

He is out on the streets right now. He doesn't have many options. If we sign him and cut him during the final cut down, he will likely be available after week one. At that point, he will sign with anyone that wants him. If Dallas wants him back, he will gladly resign. If other teams want him and he goes elsewhere, so be it. I just don't see any issue with bringing him in now and evaluating him in camp unless he wants some ridiculous contract with a big signing bonus and guaranteed money.

I haven't seen anything that shows what all of his options are.
