Nope ..... I think every employer should be able to choose employees right out of college and give them no choice where they work and put limitations on how much they can make.

Totally fair and not illegal at all ....... Yup ...... Not at all
That seems pretty short sighted when you could take them out of High School as soon as they are 18 and start grooming them without their minds being cluttered with college rules and schemes pro teams don't use. They could sell concessions at concerts and other events to earn their keep in the offseason.

Cowboys drafted like 5 TE's in between Witten and Shultz and none have ever done what Shultz did for the Cowboys.

Cant just go draft these guys.

Between Witten and Schultz I believe Cowboys have drafted two TEs, and the only one TE they really invested with very high expectation was Gavin Escobar
(2nd worst very high pick by McClay, imo)

- Rico Gathers was pure pet project as very late 6th rd pick, how was that to be taken serious threat to start ?
Club obviously had Antonio Gates/limited football aspirations for Gathers, but just a mere late 6th rd, why not ?

- James Hanna and Geoff Swaim was already here with Witten.
- Blake Jarwin wasn’t’ drafted, and they thought more of him ahead of Schultz, to even give him a long term contract ; … why ? .. A great guess says Athleticism.

Poof a top 5 pass catching TE that is the security blanket of your QB. LOL

We did draft Shultz. You know what a 2nd contract is right?

Do you know how many TE's we went through from Witten to Schultz?

Why not just pay him the going rate? You know the player, he has your QB's confidence, the risk is
Now if he wants more than the going rate then thats another subject.
Cowboys 'went through' ZERO TEs from Witten to Schultz.
The first day of the 2018 NFL Draft, Jason Witten retired from the Cowboys.
The third day of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Cowboys drafted Dalton Schultz in the 4th round.

I didnt expect them to, he was worth the franchise tag price and cap hit, but 2nd contracts are going to be getting harder to come by, you're always going to have to pay, but they are hedging their bets on possibly letting Dalton walk next season.
If they get caught with their pants down, which seems to happen, they will end up paying top dollar to retain Schultz.

Dak got franchise tagged TWICE. Dak stayed put. He didn't leave to another team or even consider it. Dak stayed loyal to the Cowboys, showed his abilities on the field, and ultimately, got handsomely rewarded for his loyalty and dedication.

We're soon going to find out how much Dalton Schultz truly wants to remain a Cowboy.
Why would Dak want to leave this team, he is the QB for the Dallas Cowboys.

I said tagging him was the smartest move they made, they had to do that and his agent knew it with 3 WR's and a TE leaving.

And yes, kicking the tires on Pitts wouldn't cost anything and maybe they deal a 1st and some other capital and Schultz to a team on the rebuild.
They do not have a franchise QB and this next draft has some better ones than taking Ridder in the 3rd. Franks and Mariota are not it.

If they want the farm, fine, walk away. But Pitts would be a game changer on this offense and ATL is going nowhere this season and they know it.

Ditto here.

yes having Cooper, Ceddy Wilson gone, Gallup will be on PUP, two inexperienced rookies (tolbert, ferguson) and a lower tier vet WR (washington) that's a lot of key departures, absences and incoming unknown for your franchise starting QB, in just one season.

Schultz' availability and rapport with Dak is very key in that regards.

Martellus Bennett, James Hanna, Anthony Fasano, Geoff Swaim and John Phillips are others drafted after Witten.

Dallas drafted Jake Ferguson in the fourth round of this year’s draft & could be fine w/him serving as the tight end of the future. Additionally, it is possible for the team to negotiate w/Schultz in the future as well, but passing Friday’s deadline means negotiations can not take place until next offseason. Nothing else to discuss ----> runs

Dalton Schultz was drafted in the 4th rd. because Jason Witten suddenly retired (and unexpectedly surprised retired at that) ..albeit be it just one year after Witten failed miserably as an NFL TV analyst. and returning to the Cowboys.

Irony is because Witten suddenly returned a year later, and with Cowboys supposedly intrigued with undrafted Blake Jarwin, Schultz ended up taking a backseat and buried on the depth chart on the TE unit.

Oh no, the colleges are impediments. Really the NFL should just use former star players to breed others, like in horse racing, and just raise them in the league from the day they are born.

I'm aware of that. You said the Cowboys only drafted 2 TE's between Witten & Schultz … I assumed you meant between when Witten was drafted and Schultz was drafted. I was pointing out there were more.

If what you were referring to is TE's drafted between the time Witten hung it up and Schultz was drafted, Escobar wouldn't apply. Witten was still a Cowboy when Escobar was drafted.

In fact, nobody would apply because there was only a couple of days between Witten retiring and Schultz being drafted.

I guess I'm confused on what you mean by between Witten and Schultz ...

NO there have been more. Some actually turned out to be good, but Garrett couldnt find a way to use them here.

The Miami TE that has been good for years, Jarwin, Swain, the big guy that has a brother playing DE with for Seahawks that had a big mouth. Said he hated Witten.

Then let them get real jobs instead of being paid ridiculous amounts of money to play a game. And ***** about it every chance they get. Give us more and more money but don't make us practice hard. That's so unfair. Please.
