This is why I love preseason. In the last two weeks we had guys claiming he could win a bunch of games if Dak got hurt and would likely be in line for a starting job in the NFL down the road.

I wasn't one of those guys but that crowd isn't wrong. Milton did enough to win the backup spot.

I mean I am not the biggest Dak guy but guys claiming he could lead us on a run if Dak got hurt was hilarious.

You never know. Who said the Cowboys would go 13-3 if Romo went down in 2016? I think its the uncertainty that is intriguing. Because you don't know.

I think just how it was handled. Its not even really about MIlton.

But last year he sucked and they made him the backup. He this year outperforms Howell....not only is he not named the 2nd QB but they cut him and possibly dont' try to trade him. It just shows mix messages.

i got to tell you, this one is a big head scratcher...i get the inconsistency in the last game but his touch looked so much better and he had come so far, why release him? There had to be other guys that would have been better to release right?

I think we could have cut Clark if we were intent of claiming a HB. We would still have good #'s at S. Id say Carson, but I think they will add a vet and he will likely be cut then

I'm starting to lean towards the Cowboys said Howell was the backup and he and his camp said screw that. Which is what happened in New England.

I can easily see that type of attitude pissing them off and cutting him. Especially Shotty.

The Cowboys are trying to win. Unfortunately Milton is limited in the plays you can call. Milton is a dime a dozen quarterback. Talented but limited.

I thought he was awful last year. He didn't belong on a football field. Another bone headed Jerry move. He finally starts to look like he's developing so you cut him. Makes sense.

I didn't think he was awful last year but I did feel like he would be lucky to make the roster this year with any competition.

Then after watching his improvement during preseason I thought for sure had earned the QB2 spot over Howell, who didn't play bad during preseason.

There has to be either a strategy to this or they know something we don't.

Just seeing Howell was named the backup...if that's the case then I can easily see Milton wanting to be let go after that. And the Cowboys doing it.

Shouldn't have traded for him in first place but couldn't resist a guy with a 95 mph fastball.

Howell was much better than Milton during camp practice according to all reporters' accounts.

And if you use a discerning eye, Howell was better than Milton in the games, albeit slightly.

Howell is the only choice here if you're looking at this through the eyes of a true backup if Dak has to miss a few games.

This season is about now.

Plus, Milton is older than Howell, so it's not like he has years to develop and take over when he's 25. He's already 26.
