Understood and agreed, but...
Did you see how good Grier looked Saturday night? I mean, keep your head coach informed and give him the opportunity to decide which players are best fit to help his team right now and next year in case an emergency comes up, don't you think?
1. Grier had been up and down to that point when the trade was made.
2. They know how they graded Trey for the draft compared to what they think Grier's ceiling is.
3. I'm sure Mike had say in whether he wanted to keep Rush or Grier. They announced that move later, so clearly Grier was the 3rd QB.
4. If Grier would have seen the field this year for any significant amount of time that means your season is over. Better to play the guy with a higher ceiling.
5. Mike wants to be in the business of developing QBs. If you aren't replacing your starter than that means spot 2 and 3 are a revolving door. Philosophically there was agreement before the move happened.
6. As I said before, Jerry pointed out needing to make the deal before the SF people got off the phone and talked to someone else. That's how deals get made, so the idea that there was time to go talk to everybody isn't real life.
