If you're referring to Dak, I like him a lot and think he has a lot of promise. I still think he is yet ro be truly tested though. He was fortunate enough to step into the best possible situation for a rookie qb. He had an all star o,line, tight end, receiver and running back. He would never have had those numbers playing for most any other NFL team. But....he looked great and did all we could have asked him to do. Couldn't have asked for anymore.

Lewis? I don't "hate" him I'm just sick of Jerry playing around with these character issue players trying to get bargains. How many times has that worked out for us? Zeke, maybe, but he's kimd of skating on thin ice IMO. Plus, as I've said, I'm sure Lewis will be very good, Imjust think we need to build our team to beat other teams in our division primarily and he might have some problems reuslting in lots of PI calls. I love most of what I've read about him other than his lack of size and tendency to draw flags.

I hope I'm wrong but even putting domestic issues aside, his size has something to do with why he dropped so far. Let's be honest, there were 92 other chances to grab this guy and no one did, including us. That's not ALL do to a small alleged domestic violence issue.

It doesn't mean he can't turn out to be great (ie Romo, Brady, etc) but I'm not so quick, like most here, to jump on the band wagon and act like we just got the steal of the century and our rookie secondary is going to come out and shut down these veteran receivers and qb's all of the sudden.

Bottom line, you're prematurely judging ---
not giving much credit to our professional scouts and coaches, who have had hundreds of prospects under a microscope for years.
McClay et al have done well over the last several years -- I think they deserve our respect and patience.

And the two we drafted this year are bigger specimens athletically than AB. Not trying to take anything away from him at all.
I looked it up to compare.

No, but in the red zone they will be tough. Ok, you're right, between the two studs we just drafted and who we have on the roster it should be no problem covering OBJ, Shephard, 6'4 Marshall and a 6'3 250 lb "tight end" who runs a 4.42 40 yrd compared to a 5'10 188 lb Lewis who runs a 4.54 40 yrd. Think we're going to be able to double team any of them without serious consequences? Please. Flags will be flying everywhere.

I'm being realistic and concerned, sorry for keeping it real. My only hope, which is very realistic, is our d line will dominate their o lone and Eli won't have time to pass.
I won't mince words. The Giants beat us twice last year and nothing done thus far by the Cowboys this offseason suggest they've addressed that. Namely, are offense struggled against there defense. If the Cowboys offense gets stifled, this defense is not good enough to return the favor.

But there is reason for hope. Because what these moves suggest I believe are more about identity, than individual talent. The first three draft picks seem to share a common approach to the game...and that is a certain attitude that they play with. And if you look at the players the Cowboys have left, despite a general lack of elite talent, they too have all displayed said attitude. I really think the Cowboys are building something here that will function well as a unit.

That is the intangible quality of this defense I see.

Now for the technical reality. The Cowboys set out to find corners that are comfortable in zone, which is a big part of Marinelli's defense and the allowed departure of Claiborne and Carr, who were man corners. Height, while worth looking at, is not as important as you may think, especially if said corner has a good vertical and long arms. But beyond the physical, like Dak proved last year, attitude towards your craft can overcome many physical/talent warts. If the Cowboys drafting of late is any indication, you can bet these guys pass the character test, regardless of off the field incidents.

Lewis did indeed run better at this pro day.

I gotta disagree with you somewhat brother - regarding the Giants. We lost to the Giants twice by a total of 4 points. Had T-Will stepped out of bounds, Dan "split 'em" Bailey would have won that game for us. At home too? Done deal. In the 2nd loss in New York, we went to to toe with them there too. Difference? Missed tackles on that long OBJ TD.

We are going to more zone coverage. We've drafted some really good CBs that excel in zone (vice Mo and Carr, who played zone but are really more man type CBs). Plus Awuzie and Lewis are really good tacklers - so YAC by any receiver we play will be minimal.

We just gave up a 35 yarder on a 3rd and 20 to end our season. I'm 100% cool with replacing our entire secondary.

Add Byron Jones' versatility and AB - who we plucked in the 6th round last year, and I'll say our secondary definitely improved. We still have rounds 4-7 to add more (I personally wouldn't mind Xavier Woods to compete with Heath as our starter).

Absolutely I'm prematurely judging, just like everyone who thinks he'll be so great and get personally off nded when I disagree. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Finally, a well thought out respectful non butt hurt response. THANK YOU!

Maybe it's just my NY Giant fan roomate that is making me paranoid. Obviously I'm not that hard to get riled up and he takes full advantage :(. Other then my roomate, the reason I am more concerned about the Giants than any other team in the NFCE is because they are our biggest threat and have been for awhile. I pay a lot of attention to what moves they make and how or if the Cowboys do something to counteract those moves or exploit their weaknesses (ie O line).

Overall, I think it will come down to the wire in both games again and the NFCE will be won by them or us. Thank God their O line sucks and they've done virtually nothing to address it. Oh well, it's wait and see now but regardless our secondary is in better shape than last year...I hope.

Oh, talking down on posters and personnel on roster doesn't say a thing about a sense of sportsmanship and loyalties...naw.

I agree that both the giddiness and anger should be tempered.

I also think that fans naturally tend to be optimistic. When we see the FO smiling broadly about landing a coveted pick, then it would be logical for us fans to feel the same.

Not to mention the front 7 improved as well

Both the Cowboys and another unnamed team have done their homework on Lewis. Both liked him to no end.

The other team's GM even went so far as to praise the Cowboys for taking him and said it was a great choice.

Neither expressed any real concern for the accuser's charge, saying they were confident it would be rejected.
