I gotta disagree with you somewhat brother - regarding the Giants. We lost to the Giants twice by a total of 4 points. Had T-Will stepped out of bounds, Dan "split 'em" Bailey would have won that game for us. At home too? Done deal. In the 2nd loss in New York, we went to to toe with them there too. Difference? Missed tackles on that long OBJ TD.

We are going to more zone coverage. We've drafted some really good CBs that excel in zone (vice Mo and Carr, who played zone but are really more man type CBs). Plus Awuzie and Lewis are really good tacklers - so YAC by any receiver we play will be minimal.

We just gave up a 35 yarder on a 3rd and 20 to end our season. I'm 100% cool with replacing our entire secondary.

Add Byron Jones' versatility and AB - who we plucked in the 6th round last year, and I'll say our secondary definitely improved. We still have rounds 4-7 to add more (I personally wouldn't mind Xavier Woods to compete with Heath as our starter).
I'm curious if you read my entire post only because you repeated part of what I said. I like our draft. But I'm also not under the spell of any illusion's. These rookies will require some seasoning. We would be foolish to expect (or be surprised by) a repeat of last year's success with draft pick contribution. We had 4 viable starters with a chance to add another in Jaylon Smith this year. That type of success is typically unheard of. But, they will be provided the opportunity given the shortage of corners and premier talent along the defensive line. So, all in all, hope springs eternal.

Finally, a well thought out respectful non butt hurt response. THANK YOU!

Maybe it's just my NY Giant fan roomate that is making me paranoid. Obviously I'm not that hard to get riled up and he takes full advantage :(. Other then my roomate, the reason I am more concerned about the Giants than any other team in the NFCE is because they are our biggest threat and have been for awhile. I pay a lot of attention to what moves they make and how or if the Cowboys do something to counteract those moves or exploit their weaknesses (ie O line).

Overall, I think it will come down to the wire in both games again and the NFCE will be won by them or us. Thank God their O line sucks and they've done virtually nothing to address it. Oh well, it's wait and see now but regardless our secondary is in better shape than last year...I hope.
That makes alot of sense. I used to troll Giants blogs just for the fun of the debate. Trouble was, it was a very bad time to be a Giants troll. They were winning Super Bowls, while we were still finding epic ways to beat ourselves.

My condolences about the roommate.
Lol, it's really not that bad, we have a lot of fun talking trash to each other but when they play each other it gets pretty intense. I'd prefer it if he were a Cowboys fan obviously but I actually like the fact that he likes another NFCE team. I like to know what the other teams in our division are doing and with him constantly in my ear I pretty much know every move they make, good or bad. It's also hilarious getting him fired up about the O line. All I have to do is say "Flowers" and he goes off.

I've occasionally gone to the Giants website just to use some ammo against my roommate but it's always been to read, I've never posted. I do find it cool that they have a forum called "trash talk" or something like that so other fans can spew their hatred. It can be pretty entertaining, there's some Cowboys fan that I think has been there for years just constantly running his mouth.

O-Scan's days may be numbered.

I don't think so. You need 5 talented corners as they have proven over and again and the guys they are bringing in are going to be cheap as dirt over the next 4 years. Scandrick's deal runs 3 and is about half what top corners get.

Now if he comes to camp and is running like a gimp then I will revisit that take but the roster and finances don't indicate that his ticket is to be punched.

Giants might have all these tall WRs and TEs but it might be hard for Manning to get them the ball when he is on his back, looking at the sky.
They have one tall old wr! Beckahm and Shepard are about 5'10"
The new TE? Well see? Rico might be better and our guys will at least have practice covering him.

I won't mince words. The Giants beat us twice last year and nothing done thus far by the Cowboys this offseason suggest they've addressed that. Namely, are offense struggled against there defense. If the Cowboys offense gets stifled, this defense is not good enough to return the favor.

But there is reason for hope. Because what these moves suggest I believe are more about identity, than individual talent. The first three draft picks seem to share a common approach to the game...and that is a certain attitude that they play with. And if you look at the players the Cowboys have left, despite a general lack of elite talent, they too have all displayed said attitude. I really think the Cowboys are building something here that will function well as a unit.

That is the intangible quality of this defense I see.

Now for the technical reality. The Cowboys set out to find corners that are comfortable in zone, which is a big part of Marinelli's defense and the allowed departure of Claiborne and Carr, who were man corners. Height, while worth looking at, is not as important as you may think, especially if said corner has a good vertical and long arms. But beyond the physical, like Dak proved last year, attitude towards your craft can overcome many physical/talent warts. If the Cowboys drafting of late is any indication, you can bet these guys pass the character test, regardless of off the field incidents.
I think the CB's go along way towards beating the giants. OBJ is what makes them dangerous, without him they are 8-8 imo.

Awuzie and Lewis are exactly what the doctor ordered to frustrate and limit obj. and Shepard for that matter. Im not worried about the old mouth.

That is alot to ask in their rookie year. Say what you want about OBJ personality wise, he has the ability to make them look stupid in their first year...maybe for a few years... possibly their entire career.

No kidding. I'm keeping Scandrick. Awuzie, Lewis, Brown, Scandrick as your CBs is a strength. No way am I getting rid of talented depth just to save a few mill on the cap.

...“We had a lot of information on the Michigan guys with [safeties coach] Greg Jackson being through there, so we had a great feel for what their character was like,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “Jason was really running the traps on the details on the legal part of this.”

Said Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, “We have thoroughly looked at his situation much earlier, and one of his particular greatest attributes, assets, was his outstanding off-the-field character throughout his life, and on top of that, his great football character as well. We were satisfied that we would be OK there.”

Lewis said he would be completely exonerated and said he was innocent. He has a trial date on July 24, the day of the Cowboys’ first practice, but hopes the matter will be settled or thrown out before then. Regardless of the legal results, he could still face punishment based on the NFL’s personal-conduct policy...

When's the last time he even made Carr look stupid? Or Nolan Carroll for that matter.

I liked D.King over him. I hope we didn't screw that up from a talent and off the field perspective.

Hate it! Looks like Jerry has more control then everyone thinks. Back to gambling on players with potential "character" issues. How many players will this make in the past 3-4 years? I'm so sick and tired of it.

On top of that, he may be a strong tackler and good at coverage but he will get smoked by the taller receivers (ie NY's Engram and Marshall). He also has a tendency to draw a lot of flags. PI is the absolute worst penalty a team can get in the NFL. This was a step back IMO.

"Oh Kiper stop, this guy would've been the best on the board 30 picks ago, 40 picks ago. He is the best pure cover corner in this draft and one of the best nickel corners I've ever seen " - Mcshay

I'm starting to like this draft more and more! Give me Xavier Woods and you can have the remaining picks!
you called it, good call

You may or may not be right, but there is a reason people have been saying this might be an all time great draft when it comes to secondary players in particular. This type of depth of defensive players is unheard of, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get pretty good immediate production.
