He still has 2 years left? Wow. This guy just wont leave.

I think he does actually maybe its just this year.

Just this year, I was thinking 5 years forgot about the 4 year non 1st rounder thing.

I think Escobar could be a force in this league. He's just been overshadowed by one of the best TEs in the NFL.I f he had time to learn,he will be good.

The guy has great hands and size, when we have specifically made him the target/option he has dominated...Yes I know, 1 game vs the Giants two yrs ago. Why has this staff not developed him or used him the right way. We know he stinks as a blocker. but many TE's in this league are pretty much pure pass catchers. Has to be other issues with him

Escobar when used has been very solid for us, releasing him would be a stupid move

Swaim is the only te on the roster with decent speed. And his blocking is decent. We can work with that. Escobar and Hanna kind of over stayed their welcome imo. But I'm fine with whatever they do. Te is the least of our problems.

Swaim offers basically the same thing and I think it's unnecessary to carry 4 TE's.

Traylor has been great at blocking and Swaim hasn't really broke out but all indications are that he can do what Escobar does in the pass game.

So why hold on to Escobar? Because we foolishly invested a 2nd? Just move on.

We've always kept 3 TE. Traylor has been okay but so has Escobar but against starters in game 2. They didn't play him much in game 3.

You're the one with the proposal. If you thing Traylor is better than Escobar then you are wrong.

Nah cut swaim he doesn't offer anything.
It's like us to cut talented players so other teams can develop them. Listen I get it. Sometimes players like that don't pan out like Stanback..but then we have guys like Amendola that we're still kicking ourselves over. Swaim stays regardless if he played less than stellar in pre season.

I laughed at the pick at the time bc I wanted Leveon bell who went the pick after. BuT I could easily see Escobar being our third 2nd round TE who can't see the field and eventually flourishes elsewhere

He's not even a stud against B Teamers in the pre-season.

You do a poor job of playing attention to games. He was asked to block in game 2 as the Y and was driving and turning Jason Jones in the run game when he wasb't stoning him in pass protectiion. He is a complete TE that has performed as such against NFL starters this preseason.

They played him in a third down role for two series in the Seattle game ie about 3 snaps. In comparison, Swaim didn't have the arm strength to sustain much less drive bocks against their LB.

I don't know if they should or shouldn't but jeri's philosophy seems to be: overpay and never let go until that well is drier than a desert riverbed.

So I suspect he'll play out his rookie contract

Back in his oil days, jeri must have quit on a well too early that later turned into a gusher for someone else and it scarred him for life
I think its just loyalty to his scouting department..

he doesn"t want to let high picks go until their original deals expire..

sort of squeezing every last drop out of a well.

When was the last time we drafted a healthy player who wasn't a tight end in round 2?

Dallas collects TE's.

Ya never know......there could be a war.

Don't come cryin' to me if YOU don't have a tight end.

Honestly.......I would do as OP suggested. I think Swaim is more athletic, quicker and Traylor is a road grader for a TE, IMO.
Swaim is not more athletic than Escobar.

I disagree, Swaim has not shown that he is Escobar's equal in the redzone by a long shot.
Copy that! Also Escobar's a huge target that can pull the ball down in the end zone, you guys remember the guy named tony Gonzales that played for Kansas city?,,, ya, we 'cut' that dude also.
