I do agree with you. Just kicking tires. Not sure I would have kicked the tires on that one.

I'm sure Marinelli has seen him after all these guys work out at the combines and coaches make notes on these players. This move in no way prevents Dallas from drafting a LB if one is there the Cowboys like. I tend to think as fans we look at the stats alone while coaches look at how a guy can fit into what he wants to do.

Yeah, I didn't expect the panic when I posted this.

Do people really believe the front office is going "well, we got Keith Rivers now...we're good."?

Parcells would say that somebody thought this guy could play -- what's the risk in giving him a shot?

He was a consensus all-american and the second best player in Fla. coming out of high school.
Was nicknamed "the shark" by USC LB coach Ken Norton, Jr for his aggressive play. Was a finalist for several awards and an all-american.
Was selected #9 overall by Cincy in 2008, and started his rookie season admirably with 10 tackles against the Ravens.
He continued stellar play until that fateful week 7 hit by Ward, which resulted in a new rule against such hits.

He's been dinged-up since then, and maybe he's even gun-shy.
Realistically, this is probably his last chance to turn his career around. The FO has evaluated that possibility a lot more thoroughly than us.
We'll see if he's got anything in TC.

It's called misinformation

You join the ranks of so many more boarders here who will exhibit yelling &
knashing of teeth in a couple of weeks when most of the big names have
been signed and the Cowboys will be seen as sitting on their hands.
Typical discontent will raise it's ugly head as boarders realize that
Dallas is holding to their plan to buy at the discount bargain bin.
The McClay model is to build the team through the draft and just
fill holes in FA. They have some guys coming back from injury
that they want to look at and there will be a significant trove
of draft picks+UDFA's.

No doubt Dallas plans and those of some fans do not see eye to eye. I think Dallas has been pretty true to their words of what they do in FA and the fact that the draft if the key to getting this team back to the top. Thus far their plan seems to be working and I don't see them changing that formula.

It is not discontent it is common sense

Romo is not playing at this level for more than 2 years, this team has a chance to win now
Once romo is done you should realize how hard it is to get a QB

You might be better off using common sense than calling out other posters

They were. Your Parcells-ism is exactly what I thought when I saw they signed Rivers. Former 9th overall pick in the draft. It's one year at what I'm assuming is a modest salary. No harm, no foul here.

Exactly, at one point, the guy was thought of as the best linebacking prospect in the 2008 draft and was drafted 9th overall. That says to me the guy has some measure of talent. I see no harm in kicking the tires to see if he's a good fit for this scheme.

Anyone lamenting the thought of Bruce Carter possibly moving on needs to realize that was likely to happen anyway and this move has little to no bearing on that decision.

Again you should spend more time on DC.com. The coaches and management
are very hopeful of Vaughn and think with a couple of years training he can be
the next Romo. They did not keep him on the 53 all year for nothing. Jerry
is just not going to spend a no.1 draft pick on a QB.

It appears from the Ranch news that Carter, Durant, & McClain will all test free agency.
The Boys are planning to lose some LBer's.

I think that was a given, considering how many free agents they had, don't you?

And I can't blame any of them for taking a look to see what offers are out there.

Rivers had a 42 inch vertical, 10.7 broad jump, 24 reps at bench and ran a 4.51 and 4.57 40 at his pro day.

stud numbers, dud results.

I don't have time for juvenile discussions

People like you are just saying this as a defense mechanism against disappointment just like posters used to be happy with an 8-8 team

My expectations are higher and I think the cowboys FO is smart enough to know what our window is and what we can achieve if we spend a little in FA this year

Bye

I agree with you. One of them might be back but, we might do just as
well signing some or drafting some in the weeks ahead.

I still don't get why everyone is penciling in Sean Lee as a major contributor at this point. He should just be a luxury week to week if he can give you anything on Sunday's. Im still concerned about that neck injury he had two years ago. I'll be shocked if he plays this year.

He's done until I see him contributing to wins in a December playoff push.

Very much agree. He can't be trusted too far because his body will betray him
when you need him most. Just to fragile to play at this level.
Durant has some of the same issues. He breaks down fairly easily and
winds up on IR.
