I'm not sure how bad the Cowboys wants either one of these two back. Carter will get some
pretty good deals out there and it highly likely he is gone. Not sure about McClain with his
head issues, but he might be back if he wants to play on a discount. I don't think you break
the piggybank for a player like this with his history.

Besides, you now have you new linebacker in Keith Rivers. The Cowboys management
has said over and over again that they are going to be KMart "Blue Light" Special buyers
in FA. Get used to it because they are not going to spend big money on any of the so called
big names in FA. They are looking for low priced players on 1-2 year deals for not much
more than vet minimums. There will be no Hardy's or other big dollar players brought in
unless they last over two weeks into FA.

Keith Rivers = Championship!

Yeah I understand, they might find a lb in the second or third round. I just like what those two bought to the table. I think McCain signs another 1 year deal. Im not sure if he is playing much next year.

You guys are way over-reacting
This is a depth signing

Also, those of you saying repeatedly that the cowboys will not be significant players in FA are in for a surprise

The cowboys will sign at least 2 significant FA (maybe 3) that have a legitimate chance of starting next year

Romo basically has a 2 year window and the team knows it

Yeah, I didn't expect the panic when I posted this.

Do people really believe the front office is going "well, we got Keith Rivers now...we're good."?

Im sorry but Ro missed a ton of practice, not sure where you getting he practiced and played through injuries.

That being said would like if Ro came back but also Carter as well. Big mistake if we let him go

He missed some practice but he also practiced and played hurt when we thought he was out for the game. I don't question his toughness at all. Rolando as a player/man and the cowboys defense made "progress" this year, that's a fact. It was more than any of us could have hoped for when he signed. It is natural for some to pick holes at the imperfections and they can have at it.

I think we can expand on that progress in both area's, and in return secure a potential Pro-Bowl MLB to play along Sean Lee . Sean Lee and Rolando McClain together rival the LB core's of SF/Seattle for power in the conference.

Apparently he's really into art and not really into hanging around his teammates off hours....

-

An art gallery isn't the first place you might expect to run into an NFL player, but if you do spot a linebacker in Chelsea, chances are it's Keith Rivers.

Football happens to be Rivers's job, but it's not his only priority. The 27-year-old has a keen appreciation and love for contemporary artwork, an interest he first developed in college and has since expanded into building an art collection.

"As I got into the NFL, I started collecting," Rivers said in a recent phone interview with The Huffington Post. "It just kind of got contagious and now I have a crazy collecting disease."

"I've never been a guy who always hung around football players," Rivers says. "You're fortunate enough to be able to hang out in circles you normally wouldn't with being a professional football player, and so I've kind of branched toward hanging out with people who don't do what I do."

You obviously know more than Jerry and Steven so you might as well go ahead and tell
us who they are going to sign up?

Oh, that's right both Jerry and Steven said countless times that they are not going
to sign big name "high dollar" players. Believe what you will but guys like Mincey
are what's on deck so get used to it. If there are going to be any big dollar signings,
it will be for their own players... Right from Jerry's and Steven's mouth.

Move seems to be more about depth at LB than a starting role. It is a 1 year deal I don't think the mindset is lets make him a starting LB for a season.

The overreaction to this signing in this thread is unbelievable. The manner in which we churned the roster last year you would have thought folks figured it out by now.

Well Rivers has one advantage and that is experience and playing time. I suspect he will make the roster and serve in a backup role. It is not as if he is a PS player he has spent a good deal of time in the league with JAG results but the experience is important.

Ehhh...I guess we will see how it goes. He doesn't appear to have been too much of a player in the league so far.

That being said it's pretty clear this is nothing more than a depth signing and he certainly has to be better than Cam.

This is a bit perplexing to me. The FO must think they can get more out of him than he has shown thus far.

Why is it perplexing? It cost next to nothing and the team has been decimated by injuries to that group the last few years. He will battle the Smith's and Lawrence's of the world for backup positions.

I just don't see much upside in this signing. I fully expect Durant to be signed based in this signing alone.

again I don't think this move is to try and replace Durant or any of the starters. I think this is just to shore up depth.

I do agree with you. Just kicking tires. Not sure I would have kicked the tires on that one.

He looks like he has the build but has yet to do anything in the nfl. If rod can't get him playing to his potential nobody can. We need him to be the best he can be because at some point this season he will have to start most likely. Not much money to spend on defense this year.
