This is good news. Just need to get an o line in front of him that can block. Hopefully the Boys can get some o lineman in the draft and FA after freeing up some money.

Hopefully it's a deal with an out after a couple of seasons.

Pretty confident it will be.
We all accept he'll be our QB this year. We need to lower his cap hit, we can spread it out for the next 3 years or so, still pay him well and be in a better position cap wise in a few years hopefully. I think we give him a 5 year deal, that is really more like a 3 year deal.

Yea, Mickey said the other day on Talking Cowboys that teams usually guarantee the first 1 or 2 yrs of the deal and then have a roster bonus in year 3 which is basically an "out" if the player has not earned his contract.

He said that is pretty standard around the league. It is also interesting to note that of all the $100 million dollar contracts that have been signed, no player has collected more than 50% of the money to date.

In other words, most contracts of this size have "ghost years" that the player will never see. Flacco is never going to get $120 million, in fact he will be lucky to get $50 million out of that deal.

Not good news. this is another big mistake. but this is the Jerry Jones way. O well.

Signing Romo is a mistake?

Aikman says this team wins 3 games max without Romo.

If this happens, I think it means Dallas has some free agents it wants to sign. That's been the pattern this offseason — Dallas not making any kind of moves with its personnel until it needs the cap space.

Signing turnover Tony will put us in worse cap hell for more years to come (mortgaging future for average team) which only guarantees more 8-8 years. Romo is a decent QB early in the season, but he seems unable or capable of playing good when it matters the most.

The Cowboys need to focus on the lines...build the team from the inside out. Spend the money on the lines. No lines = mediocre at best team.

Everyone knows by now what the most pressing need is in Dallas. And signing Spencer and/or Romo is not it. I would prefer to go 3-13 and get high draft picks to finally fix this nonsense than to continue with the 8-8 records.

I seem to recall use winning division titles and even a playoff game with Romo at QB.

The 8-8 seasons didnt start until the Boy Genius took over. Maybe the problem is not Romo, maybe the problem is the guy who mismanges games worst than a 10 yr old playing Madden.

What makes you think they can fix the problems with just one high draft pick?

I never said one draft pick. They need to replace most of the lines with young good players.

At this point, a 10 yr old playing Madden is probably better. The kid probably learns from his mistakes.

So how many high draft picks needed to fix the problems then? That same group will fix the problems which you seem to think they are incompetent?

We don't have a choice do we? Either extend him and sign Spencer to a long term deal or we can't hardly field a team. This is not if it's a good idea or not, we need to extend Romo. There's no other alternative. Well the other alternative is to trade him and tank the season.
