If talent is all that matters, why are the Titans getting rid of him?

Seriously, someone answer that question.

I heard on The Huddle a couple of weeks ago that the Titan vets could see that this guy was trouble as soon as the joined the team. He's that big a ******* and thug.

umm how about all the 1st rounders and great cover guys in giants secondary? the superbowl champion giants? and just look at the secondary we have drafted lately, newman is the only top player in our secondary that we drafted. you guys act like if we don't draft a cb in round one were never gonna win the superbowl again. :laugh2:

Their two starting corners are 1st (Aaron Ross) and 2nd round picks (Sam Madison), but that misses the point (of course, without taking the dominant pass rush NY generated during the playoffs into consideration, this comparison is apples and oranges anyway).

When teams spread us out, and/or one of our starters gets banged up again, you need quality depth that's not one infraction away from ending their NFL career. Add to that the top player you mentioned above is turning 30 this Sept.

If you're okay with Evan Oglesby getting toasted more often than Nate Jones in the fourth quarter of that Giants playoff game, then by all means roll the dice on the only player in the last 44 years to get suspended for an entire year for reasons other than substance abuse. You know, the same guy that was accused of hitting a woman at an Atlanta strip club two months ago. What's to worry about...

What makes you think that?

He couldn't beat out N Jones on a regular basis.

Just curious.

barry sanders didn't have a qb like Romo, a wr like owens, a tightend like Witten. also what does barry sanders have to do with mcfadden. they run nothing alike. why didn't you mention Emmitt instead of barry?

i'm just saying that AD had more of impact in the nfl than Ross did. like I said before IF we don't trade for DMAC than i'm all for drafting a CB in the first round just not both picks:)

I think he sucks royally. So you are saying there is a chance he only sucks as much as Nate Jones?

That would exceed my expectations.

:)

But in all seriousness. Even when we were getting thin at CB, Ogelsby didn't play much. That pretty much sums up what we should realistically expect.

That's what I was thinking as well. He's at best a dime CB/ST player at this stage.

Let's take a trip down mammary lane, doggy.
When Pac-Man was suspended, Coach Fisher and the owner drew a figurative line in the sand. As much as they admired his playing skills they had had enough and painted themselves in a corner by saying they had "moved on."
Now feelings have eased but the team is still holding to the thought that they have "moved on." Great for us.

And, too, that is why Calvin Hill gets the big money. He will be on
Pac-Man's back and the Texas media will be watching his every move.
If he performs and keeps out of trouble, great. If not, then that is why many on this Zone believe we still have to draft a CB in the first round.
For insurance.

As for Pac-Man being a ******* (unicorn) I don't get it.
If Pac-Man comes on board, we will miss you and the holier-than-thou crowd, Lester.:)

If talent is all that matters, why are the [Eagles] getting rid of [Owens].

If talent is all that matters, why are the [Bears] getting rid of [Johnston].

Talent isn't all that matters. But talent does help.

Source: Dallas Cowboys, Titans have talked about trade for Pacman Jones

05:40 PM CDT on Thursday, March 20, 2008

By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News
cwatkins@***BANNED-URL***

IRVING - The Dallas Cowboys have held preliminary discussions with the Tennessee Titans about trading for suspended cornerback Pacman Jones according to a source.
The trade could revolve around Dallas giving up a late round pick in exchange for Jones.
Tennessee officials, according to a source, are not in a hurry to make a deal but realize the best way to move on from Jones is to trade him.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Jones' Atlanta-based agent, Manny Arora, said Thursday that the Cowboys are near the top of the list to get his client.
However, Arora said he's talked to numerous teams about Jones and that he would like a trade to occur before the NFL Draft on April 26-27.
"If Tennessee chooses not to have him on their roster next year, it's in their best interest to trade him," Arora said, "because, if not, they would not get compensation."
An NFL spokesman said Jones, though suspended, can still be traded.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he will review Jones' suspension before teams begin training camps in July.
Arora would like to speed up the process because he doesn't want a team with needs at cornerback to draft one without taking a serious look at Jones.
The Cowboys lost both of their backup cornerbacks in free agency, and adding Jones would help.
"The way I feel, if they bring in Tank [Johnson] or DeAngelo Hall or whoever, they understand what's at stake," Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. "They understand how many guys are really working. Like Tank was saying when he came here, 'I've never seen as many guys working out at the same time and have the same drive in off-season workouts.' "

Scott Mitchell threw 32 TD passes in 1995, Barry rushed for 1500 yards, the Lions had 2 WRs over 1400 yards receiving, and 2 Pro Bowlers on the O-line, and the Lions scored 436 points that season, which was 1 point more than the Super Bowl Champions scored. Please do not waste my time with hollow statements about all the suffering of Barry Sanders.

I mentioned Barry Sanders because his contention was "gamebreakers win games." No one was a bigger "gamebreaker" than Barry Sanders.

It honestly wasn't that hard to figure out.

That is a popular misconception about Barry Sanders and it is false. Lomas Brown was a 7 time Pro Bowl LT for the Lions, and the Detroit Center, Kevin Glover was a 3 time Pro Bowler.

Trade talks between Cowboys, Titans intensifying

Adam_Schefter_SH.jpg
By Adam Schefter | NFL Network

At a time when cornerback DeAngelo Hall has been traded to Oakland, another high-profile cornerback could be dealt within the next week.
NFL sources said Thursday that trade talks between the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans regarding suspended cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones are intensifying.
One person close to the talks predicted a deal could be completed in the next week. Dallas would get the talented and troubled Jones while the Titans would receive a mid-round draft pick.
Jones currently is on suspension and has been informed that his status for the 2008 season will be decided prior to the opening of training camp. In the interim, NFL rules stipulate that a suspended player can be traded. A team essentially would be trading a player’s contract.
It should be pointed out that trade talks sometimes fall apart. Just look at the Raiders and Hall; it took them nearly a week to finalize a contract agreement. But the Cowboys and Titans’ talks, which have been going on for some time now, have gained steam in recent days.
Initially, they started with Dallas offering Tennessee a choice of players from its roster. When the Titans could not find a player on the list they liked, the conversation shifted to a draft pick.
Now the sides are said to be closing in on a deal that could be consummated before Cowboys and Titans officials depart for the March 30 annual meeting in Palm Beach, Fla.
Should Dallas finalize a deal for Jones, it would be the latest example of the Cowboys gambling on a player other teams would not. Dallas once signed defensive linemen Alonzo Spellman, Dimitrius Underwood and Tank Johnson, each of whom came with his own set of issues. It signed wide receiver Terrell Owens at a time when there was little interest elsewhere.
And now, it is readying to reach out to Jones, who would help strengthen one of the Cowboys' biggest areas of need.
Of course, Jones first will have to be reinstated, and no one is sure if and when that will happen. But if and when it does, Jones could be the Cowboys' property, one of Jerry Jones’ biggest gambles to date.
