We initially signed him as a UDFA. I dont think Seattle keeps 4 and I dont think they cut ties with Michael. If he's cut I think we scoop him up

Better chance of this than most scenarios.
The only part I wonder about is if they'll cut him. I keep hearing that they really like the guy and are a bit tired of Michael. Just be interesting anyway.
Chicago, Arizona, Buffalo, NYJ, and some others also have four interesting backs as well.

I'm willing to go out on a very long limb and suggest that either the Cowboys will wait till final cutdowns to grab
a RB released or they will wait till after the 1st week to bring in a veteran RB so that the contract will not be
guaranteed for the entire season. No use fretting right now because it's at least a 3 weeks before they pull
any kind of trigger. JMVHO!

Arizona has reportedly has a one year offer on the table for Chris Johnson.

Don't they know that RBs are a dime a dozen and just anyone can run the ball?

I mean, just look at their state of panic because rookie David Johnson has not been able to contribute because of bad hamstrings.

They are fools. Fools I say.

That is likely very close to the truth.

Arizona is the last franchise I look to when it comes to what to do in the running game.

So 'the plan' is to bring in a player totally unfamiliar with anything this team is doing so we can go cheap?

Again, in what way is this a good plan?

Clearly you are not thinking this through. Familiarity is not even relevant. All you need to know is that this OL is just so good that everyone falls over and whatever back has the ball can simply skip for the yards they need. And oh yes, it really helps if that back can skip faster than other backs, so there is "no meat left on the bone".

I know well the point you are making but, I do think this is the way Jerry and Stephen are going to play it this year. They are going to give
their current bunch of RB's every chance to succeed or fail and gamble that if necessary, they will be able to pull the trigger on someone.
They brought McClain LB in towards the end of camp last year and he was totally out of shape. Just saying that's the way Jerry will roll.
There is no way they are going to admit they made a mistake letting DeMarco go. Period!

I'm calling that arrogant, stubborn, and a poor way of doing business. As soon as you let pride or emotion, or ego get involved in the process, bad things happen.

If there is even a shred of a "we'll show them!" thinking involved, this team and this season will suffer for it.

Maybe so, you may well be right on though you yourself know how stubborn Jerry can be and I think Stephen in
many ways is a chip right off the old block. Besides CJ has a deal on the table from Arizona and is not biting at this
moment. I don't think the Cowboys view Rice as a viable choice so who does that leave out there?

Just my opinions:

Option 1: Call Johnson's agent and get in on the action and see what his asking price is. Unfortunately, because the Cowboys waited, he now looks to have a market and that will cost more.

Option 2: Bring another vet back into camp. They worked out Ben Tate a few months ago, if he's still in shape, bring him to camp and at least have another option on the roster.

Option 3: Call around and inquire about trading for a young back with some chance to be a starter. Montee Ball is my first choice, but I would call the Jets about Zac Stacy too.

What I would not do is sit on my hands waiting for the next injury to happen to one of these guys. These injuries are minor, but they should be a wake-up call. They aren't devastating now, but during the season they could be.

Letting Murray go for the price they would have had to pay was not a mistake. It was a mistake to think McFadden, Randle and Dunbar could replace him.

It was a mistake to not have drafted a running back.

I think, very soon, they will correct their mistake. A running back will be added when teams cut down to 53. I think, after the first couple of preseason games, we may even look to trade for a running back.

This team is very close to being a legit Super Bowl contender. Why, for the love of all that is holy, would you risk that with the hot mess we have at running back now? I don't think they will.

All viable choices I agree. I know Will McClay has his rolodex on speed dial and could make a call but, no call has been made at this point.
It looks as if they are going to give Gus the "Bus" and Lache every opportunity to grab or spit the bit over the next couple of pre-season games
just to see before making any hasty decisions. Run DMC is supposed to return Saturday to the fold along with Dunbar so I guess waiting
is the name of the game at present.

I agree with your points and all of them are salient. The problem is that Jerry does not agree and he feels that he has put his
chips in the middle with his OL and that any fool with two good legs can rush for 1200 yards behind them horses. That's the
way this hand is being played right now and until he loses the pot, that's the way this poker game is happening.

I'm wondering if it's his call right now or if the Joneses are making this one?

I don't see that as any plan, but more out of necessity.

If they're insisting on not signing another option it is. They talked about McFragile on Cowboys Break and still only give him a 40% chance to practice on Saturday. Like me, they're fed up with him being unavailable too.

He's wrong if he's thinking that. We aren't paying huge dollars for this elite line. Smith is the only one with a big deal. Free is average. Martin, Fredbeard and Leary are steals for what we are paying them.

We can afford to pay more for a running back NOW. In two years, it'll be a different story if we intend on keeping this line together. It will be very expensive to do so. Then go cheap on running back. But we don't have to now.

We're both singing in the same choir though I don't think the Jones family is listening. They kept Ryan Williams around for a year and a half
on suspect knees while they though he might be able to play. They are going to at least see if run DMC is made of crushed glass or Noritake
china.

The Cowboys will start someone that is currently on the roster regardless to begin the season so that is why it doesn't really matter.

He could very well be absolutely wrong and it sure won't be the first time. We'll know more after Thurs. nites game I hope. Then
we can all re-convene and gripe all over again.
