lol, what kind of statement is that?

A) Well, probably.

B) You heard of this Wentz guy people are talking about potentially going 2nd overall? Where'd he play again?

A) I thought my point was pretty clear. If someone told you that a DB from Fresno St who had a grand total of 3 ints in 42 games played should be a top 5 pick, wouldn't you be a tad skeptical? But since Ramsey was a Nole, and played in lots of nationally televised games in which the announcers sang his praises, everyone is on the bandwagon. It's nonsense.

B) I'll see your Wentz and raise you Tim Tebow, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden and EJ Manuel. None of these guys should have been 1st rd picks, but since they all played on the so-called "big-stage" they got the benefit of the doubt.

Other than Orlando Scandrick can you name me one bright spot from the secondary the last decade. We can't sign em, draft em, evaluate em, develop em. The total lot has been mediocre from Sensabaugh to Wilcox to Carr to Claiborne to Heath, the list goes on and on. They need to destroy whatever they're doing to evaluate for the secondary and build from scratch. Instead we just promoted the coach partly responsible for the putrid safety play. Where is the light?

Going to be a looooong offseason for some of you.

Happy Easter. :)

Carr is basically here on a 1 year deal and the cost to cut him would be the equalivent of bringing in another cb. If the cowboys would ask Carr to take a pay cut it would also likely come with an extension. So even though he has underperformed his contract the last 2 years would you rather him here playing ok football for 1 more year or sign him to a 2 year extension where another 5 to 8 million is guaranteed? He is a better player than many of the mid level corners available this free agency.

Todd Archer of ESPN writes that Cowboys CB Brandon Carr is the “big winner” after the team was unable to sign either Nolan Carroll or Patrick Robinson after bringing them in for visits.

According to Archer, Dallas will wants Carr to take a pay cut and agree to reduce his $9.1 million salary for the 2016, and have spoken to his agent. However, determining his worth has been a bit of an issue.

Archer mentions that Carr could end up in the $5 – $6 million per year range if he were to be available on the open market. Beyond that, the Cowboys are well aware that some team would sign him to a contract, which explains why they didn’t make this move last year.

Another issue is that they currently do not have an obvious replacement for him on their roster.

B bye.

Again it works both ways. Even when we have a consistent pass rush in a game, not dominate, but getting in the qb's head somewhat, Carr isn't doing anything different.

That goes for the entire secondary.

Even with Scandrick back, there is no one back there who is considered a "Pro-bowler".

They need a guy to build the secondary around– a guy who's reliable game in and game out for doing a good job.

Trust me. Every week watching Carr getting toasted is a constant reminder of Alan Ball and Courtney Brown Part Deux. Only worse since Carr is getting top ten money for CBs. What kind of message to the team do you send by making Carr the highest paid player on defense and he continually gives a putrid performance like he has for several years?

The trouble is that he's been better than Mo.

I've heard plenty of skepticism about Jalen as a cornerback, which is why most are projecting his best position as safety. I'm probably among the most skeptical when it comes to draft prospects, so you don't have to caution me about bandwagons.

As far as Wentz vs those other guys, Tim Tebow is one of the greatest college players of all time. He played at a big name school, against big name competition and won. Not ending up a good pro doesn't mean you weren't a good pro prospect. No team is TRYING to draft a bust. Tebow was never my cup of tea, but it only takes one team to like a guy.

So I'm guessing we can give a pass to all the cb's and the safeties too. Because they have no pass rush to help them. And the linebackers in coverage, they too have no pass rush to help them.

nope, not what I said...I said he was a #2 CB playing against #1's, and that zero pass rush doesn't help...it goes hand-in-hand...better coverage would help the pass rush as well...Carr is a #2 being paid like a #1...the pay isn't his fault...but, cutting him, as many are suggesting does NOTHING to help the team, other than salary....if they cut him, then they had better have a plan to get another CB...you didn't hear much about Denver's secondary last year...mostly because their DLine and LB's were causing issues

I think that most of the current conflict to fans, is due to a lack of sophisticated analysis upon the secondary positional group...

Oh, many will watch the X's and O's, as will I, but that doesn't described managements attempts, which really haven't been an element of despair.

Take Scandrick, he isn't now a victim of age. He is still the aggressive player that challenges events on the field. Also, he is close to his entrance speed at 4.3. He has gained a seasoned Pro status and is great in a secondary. His problem is simply this, he's still short. That is what it is. He's a good element in anyone's secondary, although.

Carr, is a professional grade cornerback, that has valid skills and is used to protect his own strengths. He carries a lunch pail into the secondary, and exists there. He brings team cohesion and glue to divergent talents in a secondary. He is a building piece. As seen today, although, he is a product of NFL player development, following the lockout and new contract. What we saw in this free agency period, is some of that money hitting the fan and going to the players now.

Well, Carr was on the front end loaded part of that new Cap projection, and he cashed in...although the team could benefit from a change of heart that matches current player pricings, players have also experienced the times when money was a foreign exchange system as well. Those players earned, through sweat equity, the right to sit on a little of the improvements now. That is just life in the 'big city' adjusted to today's pay scales in the NFL. His contract was fought for at the time of it's signing. We as fans, need to see that as well...

The current staff hasn't ignored the secondary in the least. I count the Jones pick this past draft, as a good one. Scandrick, Carr, and Jones are 3/4 of the starting picture, from first sight. Add a Ramsey level of talent, and what else can a fan wish for, beyond good depth it currently possesses.

He is getting paid as a #1 corner. Don't care if he is so called listed as a #1 or #2 cb.

If the Cowboys don't make a single move, the secondary will be better this year for two big reasons:

1. Scandrick is back. He's our #1 CB. Which means our #1 upgrades, as does every CB in the pecking order because they each get to bump down one level with Scandrick back. Carr will perform better as a 2 than a 1, Claiborne better as a 3 than a 2.

2. Byron Jones's development. With his brains and his work ethic, I expect a big leap from Jones this season. Playing FS full time will be a big difference for him as well.

Add a Leon Hall or a Jalen Ramsey to this group and we would be sitting really pretty.
