At this point I would just ride it out and he is off the books next year but of course this isn't my money.

So, offer him a contract that suites his production for this season?

In today's market $9 million isn't a big price tag for a starting CB.

I think fans under rate his abilities as well. Dallas was 5th in yards passing per game last season, with next to no pass rush. He isn't a super start but he is a solid starter.

5th in yards passing is such a misleading stat. They also couldn't stop the run and they trailed in a lot of games, thus teams ran more than passed.

Total yards and time of possession were two of the 'big three' for Bill Parcells...misleading?

Passing yards is misleading when you see how a game unfolded for the team last year. They were 20th in pass rating. Which means teams were pretty damn successful at passing on us last year.

I'm sorry, but that comparison doesn't pass the eye test...more like attempting to explain away a fact.

The Cowboys know a team would sign him to a deal quickly. That is why they didn't press the pay cut last year. They also know they don't have a replacement for him yet and it was no guarantee those aforementioned corners would have replaced him.

Here's what Jason Garrett had to say from the owners meetings when asked if the visits with Carroll, Hall and Robinson were in relation to Carr:

"I think you have to be careful about making those assessments. The biggest thing we're trying to do is help our football team. We've tried to target some different guys and, again, we want to be disciplined throughout the process. You get a chance to bring players in and evaluate them and see if they fit, see if they fit for a lot of different reasons. You get to know them as people. You continue your evaluation of them as players. You evaluate how old they are, what their medical is, all the different things that go into signing a player. You can't have enough cover guys in this league. There are a lot of really good quarterbacks in this league. There are a lot of really good receivers. Offenses challenge you a lot of different ways in the passing game. You need a lot of guys out there covering these guys. It's always been a position that we've valued."

Garrett continued: "We drafted Mo Claiborne. We signed Brandon Carr. We have Orlando Scandrick, we believe it's a really important, valuable position on your football team. In order to play good defense you have to have good cover guys. We're always evaluating these guys to see if we can bring someone in to help us and if we are able to do that here over the course of free agency we'll assess our team, evaluate our team and see what the next best decisions are."...

LOL. Doesn't pass the eye test?

They were 20th in pass rating defense, which is more telling a stat than total passing yards per game.

So you can convince yourself that we were a good passing D but we really weren't.

Go back to the original statement that you completely ignored, by Bill Parcells. If one doesn't want to discuss...fine, end of exchanges. But leave the insulting 'you's' out of talk, that simply doesn't pass the rude test.

Well technically Parcells said "total yards" not "passing yards". Total yards includes passing and rushing yardage which is more important than just passing yards alone.

And passer rating is a better indicator of your ability to stop a passing attack than just simply passing yards as a stat.

In the end, it's actually quite simple............ we were not a very good pass D last year and citing "passing yards" as proof we were good as pass D is misleading and quite shortsighted.

Yeah. I think we all have these "expectations" because of his salary. And probably rightfully so. But Carr is solid. At a position that is difficult to find "Solid".

But expectations have to be tied to salary. You can't just ignore the fact that his cap hit in 2016 is $14.1MM. That's absurd for a CB who while not terrible is probably pretty average.

true enough; I agree; but if the risk/drop off at that position is significant....I would be inclined to overpay a little....not much, but a little. Although, I think he is probably gone

You seem to have missed a few relevant discussions on importance in differentials of one's own offense and defensive handling of the total picture. In a functioning offense, today, the passing game dominates.

As to last season, it was something of an anomaly...both the offense and defense were off. So that argument doesn't hold much water from the start...

I missed nothing.

The evidence is pretty clear we were not a very good pass defense. As I said, we are 20th in passer rating defense. That's not good. QBs averaged a rating of 94 against us. Throw in the fact we were near the bottom of the league in passes defended and interceptions.

This is not a very good pass D and could use upgrades at one CB spot and the SS spot. Carr is not good enough, especially at his $14.1MM cap hit.

Money for a contract paid when the team was coming out of the NFL lockup...really know history?

As to how many games were lost by large scores and any OTHER differential? Some much for that refuge being a know all...good night Walton family.

How to Make a Burn Barrel
Questions and Answers

If you need to dispose of burnable trash, and there isn't anyplace available to take it, you probably need a burn barrel.

To make your very own burn barrel, you first need a barrel. A 55 gallon (208.2 L) metal drum works best. These can often be had for free, or very cheaply, from manufacturing facilities, junkyards, etc.

It's always funny watching you respond to people and chastise them for being snarky or condescending and yet you do it all the time, such as your "know history" comment above. It's pretty hilarious.

Who cares what the circumstances were when he signed? That's water under the bridge. They have a chance to upgrade and get out from under that contract this year. They can save over $6MM in cap space right now if they cut him, over $9MM in cap space as a June 1 cut.

The Cowboys need to upgrade their pass D. Anyone who is really honest with themselves can admit that. It's clear the Cowboys do or they wouldn't be chasing around all these CBs that they have.

I agree. But who is that upgrade? The Draft? I mean, I really don't know who......

At this point, don't know. I think they probably played hardball too much with guys like Robinson and some others.

At this point, there's Leon Hall still out there at CB, maybe Brandon Boykin and Reggie Nelson at S (who granted appears to be asking for a lot). I guess they are thinking they can upgrade through the draft.
