I loved Cooper in the draft, reportedly he was fine playing for the browns but they cut him for a guy who sucks and had a DUI so that makes no sense.either he is a head case or something is going on which we are not privy to here.

When the Browns pick you up on waviers only to release you again for a guy who had a DUI that wasn't on anyone's active roster. Yeah, nobody needs to be privy, the silence is deafening. (from the Cardinals, Patriots, AND Browns!)

wasn't leary inactive until Collins got hurt? well that sure didn't work out for him

And if given the choice, Leary wouldn't have been here. I'm not saying there's nothing to gain, but the only way you can rehab your career is Collins or Martin getting injured. Because he won't even see the field as a third TE if they are both healthy.

Reminds me of when we brought in Alex Barron, the former Rams' #1 pick OT who was a major bust in the NFL.

Good post, Joey.

I will say though, being a successful guard is much easier to be than a tackle.

Keep in mind, Cooper would likely play next to Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick. Most people would look good there.

DeCastro had a rough start and an injury early on but has really turned it around and has turned into a darn good OG.

I know Cooper hard an injury early on but never seemed to do better after recovering.

DeCastro had to get stronger too. He did.

People are always impressed most by an OG's ability to move, DeCastro could and still can, but it remains a power position first and foremost.

Have to be able to sit down on 330 lbs DT in pass pro and drive them in the run game. If you constantly need help then it pigeonholes the offense. A defense can blitz local gaps to get isoes and free runs too easily.

Is his technique the issue? I just remember watching a game on Thursday night and Mayock yelling at Barron to get his butt down.

Or is this instead you just feel like you felt then?

Intitially most hated the pick, was kinda of a shock pick like Jaylon was this year. However we were so starved for talented lineman it was embraced quickly
While there was some hand wringing over the Frederick pick by some, most of hatred came from no-cowboy fans and Media who insisted it was a reach. (never mind that we got TWill in that trade also). The most hated pick that year has to be Escobar. I, for one, was one of em (I wanted DJ Swearinger or Bennie Logan).

You seem angry we worked him out. Let him make his decision. I'm happy we are using the off week to continue to scour for depth. Perks of HFA.

I'm not angry, but I do feel that if he's willing to come here, where if he is forced to play due to injury, we can hide him (we did just fine without Tyron Smith) then it signals to me at least he doesn't have the drive necessary to rehab his career. I may be wrong, but there has to be a better opportunity for him. To be honest, Cleveland was a good opportunity, but I suspect he wasn't necessarily a hard worker in the Joe Thomas mold.

Cooper will be a great signing. He wanted to play for Dallas watch him resurrect his career

This could be like the Marc Colombo signing for us. Got hurt with the Bears, was never really healthy, we signed him, he got healthy and he gave us some great years.

Also there's a lot of activity and futures signings going on right now as smart NFL teams are already getting ready for next season's OTA's and training camp. It's not all about the playoffs. 20 teams just had their seasons ended and our scout staff is looking over other team's practice squads for signing for next year.

An OLineman won't last long around the Cowboys if he is not a hard worker. Those guys (Tyron, Fred, Martin, Leary) take the weight room and practice seriously.

Hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Might be good depth that we can develop here.

What are the rules re futures contract?
Do we have to wait until eliminated from playoffs?

No. Not when signing a guy on a team who's season already ended because his team didn't make the playoffs. I don't think any such player signed could be added to the active roster for this playoff run, though. I'd have to look.

Had a feeling we would look at Cooper and/or Chance Warmack this offseason to replace Leary and possibly Looney.

Really thought Cooper was going to be a good one.

He was a bit small and relied on his speed and quickness, then hurt his knee which took away his strengths.

I was borderline ecstatic that we got Frederick. Re-watching games with Andre Gurode would literally give me splitting headaches. I don't believe you can have a great O-Line in today's NFL unless you have a legitimately great center. And I thought Fred would be a great center and didn't get caught up in all of the nonsense about his slow 40-time. A good center prospect with a slow 40 time beats a good guard prospect with a fast 40 time, IMO.
