Cowboys working out Austin Davis (on Wednesday)

We need a guy that can run the same offense as Prescott. IMO.

not really. here's a shot from the former Cleveland QB reunion this last summer.

Looks like my bowl of fruity pebbles this morning.

Well, it's been a while since Davis rocked the Cowboys for 300+ yards back in 2014, so it remains to be seen if any of that good mojo is still lying around, latently intact. To be sure, his experience with the Rams was the high point in his career thus far.

He has seemingly regressed during his time with the Browns but sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery and renewed enthusiasm to awaken those dormant abilities in a QB. After all, isn't the Cleveland Browns where QBs are said to go to die? Could be . . . just a thought.

Let's just see if this newfound change of scenery and company with the Cowboys finds a way to work any wonders during his new stint there. Hopefully, for both himself and his new team, that missing spark might finally be reawakened in Frisco. You never know -- sit tight and observe.

Good point ,but something tells me he will be wearing Purple and white.

Perhaps but both the Cowboys and Vikes will provide some stiff tests and competition for him to overcome. We'll soon see what becomes of it. Shaun Hill and possibly even Colin Kaepernick, if they acquire him, might see to that.

Have you taken a look at this team's current roster?

Yeah and the last thing this team needs is another project QB whos probably on his last leg in the nfl (moore, showers).
If the 3rd stringer plays we're done anyways but I'd rather it be a veteran who can help develop dak. If its a temp spot anyways Vick would be another good mentor.

Aaron Murray? Goodness..... I can somewhat understand the facsination with Austin since he's somewhat a vet but why would they want Murray?

For someone as close to the Cowboys as Fish claims to be, he's rarely "in the know".....

"Vick would be another good mentor". Said no one ever. Until you mistakenly did anyway.

Hilarious that you'd call Austin Davis - who's actually getting a workout today - "on his last leg in the NFL" - and then turn around and try to promote Michael Vick, who can't even get his phone calls returned.

The killer with Murray at least as a prospect is short QBs with poor pocket awareness have a very hard time in the NFL.

With his tools and the fact that he is likely getting cut doesnt make me think its improved much

Yeah Vicks not a saint, everybody knows that, hes had his ups and downs but hes also had longer success in the nfl than anyone else on the market. He'll be on an nfl roster when camp is completely over. Davis is getting an audition to be a temporary 3rd string qb, and he may not even get the job, after being released from the browns.

And yet, as you said, he's still "on the market". My opinion of him isn't about his past sins, it's about the fact that he's not smart, doesn't study, and can't play anymore. And the league agrees at this point.

No he won't. Teams want to get quarterbacks up to speed in their system for as long as they can. You don't wait until the last minute at that position if you can avoid it.

Which is much more than Vick is getting. There's interest in Davis, none in Vick.

The Steelers had him last year, and despite their backups (including former Cowboys bust Dustin Vaughan) looking terrible, aren't bringing him back either.

Just heard Mickey on the fan. He acted like they just want him to get through the game tomorrow and then see who gets cut. Said they would prefer a QB with Daks skillset so they don't have to change the offense back to a pocket passer.

Seems kind of stupid considering they will have to do that when Romo returns.

I'd say offensively, the Cowboys are light years ahead in terms of surrounding talent compared to the Rams or Browns.
I agree. But my point was:
1) If Austin Davis can pass for nearly 1000 yards with a passer rating of 100 in his first three starts, then that means Dak too can play well, and even "light it up"
2) if he does, it doesn't mean that Dak himself won't be a waiver wire QB in two years

vicks team already called the cowboys and the cowboys said no. granted this was before romo's injury, but even with that the fact they're not calling him NOW speaks volumes they simply won't.

And when those with the team were asked, the answer was a curt "No". No more, no less.

It's enough for me, but not others I guess.

"Stupid", but consistant...

Yeah but don't the Chiefs have Alex Smith, Nick Foles, Kevin Hogan, and Tyler Bray as well as maybe one other QB? That's a lot of players and with Smith and Foles it doesn't really matter who gets the 3rd spot and who goes to training camp. Not saying I'm an advocate on Murray though, I thought he was a solid college guy but haven't seen a scouting report on him in years. Austin Davis makes more sense to ME. But that doesn't mean we don't see more we like in Murray.
