Yeah but don't the Chiefs have Alex Smith, Nick Foles, Kevin Hogan, and Tyler Bray as well as maybe one other QB? That's a lot of players and with Smith and Foles it doesn't really matter who gets the 3rd spot and who goes to training camp. Not saying I'm an advocate on Murray though, I thought he was a solid college guy but haven't seen a scouting report on him in years. Austin Davis makes more sense to ME. But that doesn't mean we don't see more we like in Murray.
Hogan has been awful so far in preseason, but Im not sure what Bray has done. With Murray the book on him was that he had the requisite talent, but as a 6'1 QB lacked the feel for the pocket that other short QBs like Brees and Russell need to be effective. Led to alot of batted and tipped balls in college. If you cant see over the line, you gotta see through it

Yeah I heard Hogan has been bad enough to where they don't think he looks the part of an NFL QB whatsoever.

Murray has talent. 3 inches taller and he may have been a day 2 pick. His pocket awareness can be coached at least enough to be a viable back at least. But as it was, it was an NFL career killer.

He has good enough talent to be a decent project IMO

I don't think it says anything at all about Dak. I feel kind of bad for Showers who will likely lose his roster spot if Romo isn't put on IR.
If they put showers on practice squad, especially if he plays thur and looks decent, some team will pick him up.

Possibly. But I think that's a risk that this team is willing to take. Not saying I Norse it, just saying that what I believe that they will do.

So no chance we PS Showers and sign Davis and Murray?

I also am one to wonder if there's any chance for Showers to be retained on the practice squad . . . seems quite possible to me.

Just heard Mickey on the fan. He acted like they just want him to get through the game tomorrow and then see who gets cut. Said they would prefer a QB with Daks skillset so they don't have to change the offense back to a pocket passer.

Seems kind of stupid considering they will have to do that when Romo returns.

Agreed -- teams can't always get the ideal thing that they might fancy. Sometimes you simply need to take the best thing available and be thankful for finding a workable solution. I guess they'll keep looking if Austin Davis doesn't suit their "druthers" but you never know, he might surprise 'em.

I prefer Davis to Murray because at least Davis has played in a regular season NFL game. That is what we need right now. By week 9 at the latest, either of them is going to be QB3, so who cares about their upside. We just need experience behind Dak until then.

Or......reading into this, it sounds more like they could be preparing in case Romo can't go this year AT ALL.....

You know that's the lingering scenario in the back of everyone's minds. But if that's truly what they are planning for, I think there will be quite a few veteran backups cut loose after this weekend.

You're correct, but how many have a skill set close to Dak's? If they don't want to change the offense if something happens to Dak, they have to have a mobile QB. Of course this is all predicated on Romo not being able to play this year.....

True I think Romo will be back sooner rather than later. Not many as good as Dak, but once there is film on him and DCs are gunning for him he may look more like a rookie.

My guess would be they would rather only have style to teach - teach being the operative word.

"Stupid", but consistant...

Yep.

Another thing I thought of is, whomever they bring in who is going to teach them? Remember Cassel last year saying he had nobody to barely talk to? Wade and Linny will need to be all over Dak, unlike Romo, because he so green.

In my opinion, the less Wade Wilson 'coaching', the better. I hope he fully recovers from his current ailment, but I think the quarterbacks would be better off without him.
