This selection is on crack. I love Monty Python and stuff, but My Cousin Vinny wipes the floor with all of them.

Braveheart reams Die Hard. No way that should be on there either.

The Matrix a horror film? It's you guys that are on crack!

How do you get adventure movies without Indiana Jones? Hell you even used his picture for the Action / Adventure Region art work?!??!

I love My Cousin Vinny, but The Holy Grail is tops. I can't think of a more quoted movie still, after 45 years!

Agree that Braveheart should be way ahead of Die Hard.

The Matrix
is sci-fi, not horror.

Indiana Jones movies were listed, but where I listed Raiders of the Lost Ark, someone else listed one of the other movies, I think. So that right there gets half as many possible votes.

Ya know, the debate over categorizing films might have been better if we'd had this before the face off. I agree that putting some in categories is difficult like Alien to me is Horror and Aliens is Action but that's just how I categorize them. It would have taken longer but we could have determined this earlier in the process and that category for Fantasy would have been good for Hobbit, LotR, Willow, Avatar and I miss the Drama category for a face off with Godfather and II, The Departed, Goodfellas, LA Confidential, etc.

I don't know. My Cousin Vinny is a quote machine too. It's either him or me. You're getting ****ed one way or another!
I've never heard anyone quote that line, but once in a while someone says the word "yutes". Other than that, I really don't hear many quotes from the movie. Don't get me wrong, it was friggin' great, and I'll watch it every time I see it on. I just think The Holy Grail is better. We'll have to see how Vinny holds up after 45 years.

Since we've been asked not to post in the voting thread, I will state my case here. I would also like some recognition for finally following a rule.

I liked Aliens better than Alien but I voted for Alien because that created everything that followed, except the queen. That established things that would follow in numerous films such as humans being used as hosts. It set a new standard in Horror/Sci Fi and created the most fearsome monster in film history.

Alien must be the victor because that is the only movie I have ever seen in my life that actually made people leave the theater. About 30 people got up right after the John Hurt scene and went as fast as they could up the aisle and did not return. The combination of Scott purposefully muddying the audio and the shock scenes of things we'd not seen before was an absolute masterpiece. A true groundbreaker.

Put me in the "I don't get it" camp as I've never liked Monty Python and never found it funny or quotable.

If quotable is a qualifier, look no further than Airplane, quite possibly the most quoted film in history with just the response when someone says the word "surely" and "I picked the wrong day to quit _____".

Yep, Airplane! is also very quoted.

I'm really surprised you aren't a Python fan.

Never even cracked a smile but I never use myself as a judge of that kind of thing. I never laughed at Friends or Seinfeld either and that puts me in the small minority. What's funny is so subjective.

I think Seinfeld is overrated, but I think part of that may be my bias, because I dislike the fact that they get away with referring to it as the "show about nothing", as if that isn't the case for nearly every other sitcom....Also, the screaming and yelling about everything is way over the top.

raiders of the lost ark made my 32.

as for the matrix....i took the backslash to mean sci-fi or horror....so it would count on the sci-fi part.
i have never heard the term horror sci fi before.
i had only heard of movies being described as horror.....or sci fi.
so when i see sci fi/horror...i think it's either a sci-fi movie....or a horror movie.

Know how you feel. After my dissertation on The Wild Bunch, the ignorant posters with all their taste in their mouths, and that's for McDonalds burgers, sent it to it's death in round 1. I fear I shall never feel the same about them.

Or. Or. Or. Or. Or. Or. Or.

Sam, the slash between Horror/Sci-Fi, Action/Adventure means Or.

Please start reading these threads instead of suddenly popping in and shooting them full of holes with your six-guns! :p

How do you get adventure movies without Indiana Jones? Hell you even used his picture for the Action / Adventure Region art work?!??!
1. Every movie considered was placed into nomination via a participating member. A points system decided which movies would make the current tournament.

Sam, where is YOUR ballot list with all the movies you would recommend for this tournament?

2. Yes. I used a scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark as the art work for Action/Adventure regional. It is possible but I doubt anyone will argue against Raiders being both an action and adventure movie.

Sam, you might understand why I would chose Indiana Jones as the artwork if you had read the thread that sponsored this tournament, reviewed my list...

https://cowboyszone.com/threads/nex...loting-has-ended.459816/page-13#post-10275223

...and discovered I considered Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' collaboration as the SIXTH BEST OVERALL film on my ballot list, giving the movie 27 points. Only two other participating members nominated Raiders also but ranked it much lower and gave the movie 21 additional points.

The tournament was divided into genre regions. Each region would field only the top eight vote-getters in its category, which was determined by the thread selection vote. Raiders combined 48 points placed it tenth in the count for the Action/Adventure regional, missing the cut.

Sam. Could you do me a favor? Please please please start participating more in the construction of these tournaments. Your wisdom will make them so much better. Whatayasay, Doc? :)
