Losing and getting a high pick is better then being mediocre for a decade.

1 year of losing brought this franchise Ezekiel Elliot and I don't know where we would be without him.

If we could get a top pick in the next couple of years and somehow come out of the draft with Tua, Herbert, or Lawrence from Clemson and have them for cheap for the next 5 years then we could do something special.

I don't think he's said that at all. I think his point is that Prescott isn't as good as what his potential contract might indicate.

And frankly, what two Cowboys HoF QBs say is to be taken with a grain of salt because when they (specifically Aikman) were critical of Dak, the Dak lovers lost their lunch and ripped Aikman for not knowing what he's talking about. But the moment Aikman was positive on Dak, suddenly those same people propped him up as an expert and proof they were right about Dak.

    It's laughable.

What do you expect Prescott to say? "Well I'm not that good, I'd say I'm only worth about $15 million or so"?

When does anyone who's negotiating for, or about to negotiate for, a raise start low and work their way up?

No you start by asking for more than you expect to get or what you think you'd accept or what you think you're worth.

    Much ado about nothing...

We could also have Blake Bortles or Ryan Tannehill.

The 2016 Draft with Zeke was an anomaly, we were only drafting that high because of a fluke injury to our franchise QB - that team won 12 games the year before and 13 games the year after.

And Zeke was a big part of the 13 wins in 2016 but a lot of it was the fact our 4th round pick had the best rookie season of any QB in history. And that's the guy you are happy to see leave.

Please let Prescott sign his new contract so the daily "OMG! They cannot pay him that much!" can change to "OMG! They paid him that much?" All the deserve talk is completely relative. Owners will pay or overpay what they want to secure or acquire a player.

Also, one discussion can have more merit than the next. A discussion on capping rookie contracts is one thing. Rookies have not done squat to get paid more than vested top-tier veteran players. That discussion does not directly tie in necessarily with discussions for re-signing or signing veteran players.

Totally agree. And Dak isn't even asking for more than he is worth, he is giving platitudes like "we will get a fair deal done", "I'm sure we will get there", etc.

Also the fan comments are polarized because some are saying Dak should get 15 Million a year and some are afraid it will be 30 Million a year. In reality the deal will have incentives so the guaranteed money will be less than people are afraid of, but it will still put Dak in the top ten if he performs at that level.

But we all know that would never happen (Jerry letting him hit the open market).

I feel like it is more that he will capitalize on Jerry Jones' dumbness. Jerry will give him a 30 million contract and it will ruin the team cap wise. Now, If Jerry offered Dak a 22-25 mil contract, I think he'd take it.

You’re making it sound like drafting a QB high is going to guarantee anything either.

Tua or Herbert or Lawrence could bust.

So then you have more losing seasons because the new QB isn’t any good and then you have to spend another high pick on a QB.

I understand the concern about overpaying Dak. But some of you are making it sound much easier than it realistically is, to ensure an elite QB. The truly great ones only come around once every few years.

And even if they don't, they are more likely than not to sit as a rookie or have a terrible rookie season like Goff did.

Jerry isn't the guy running the salary cap or Dez Bryant would still be on the team. He is more of a veto-power Chairman of the Board type now.

30MM a year is top five money for a QB and I don't think anyone really believes he will get that. IMO the deal will be something like 5 years for 125 MM but most of it incentives and only 50MM guaranteed. Dak will be set for life with a big signing bonus, but it will likely work out to something like 18MM per season unless he plays lights out. If he does, Dallas will be happy to pay 25MM a year.

Laugh all you want, but it's the truth.

When Aikman made a comment about Dak's accuracy, the ensuing thread was legendary, with some Dak supporters ripping Aikman as being overrated himself, not being accurate, etc.

I feel this is being overblown.

    No surprise I guess.

Yes and while he's been durable, if Dak is as smart as I think he is (or his agent/advisors/family is/are), Dak will realize it's better to accept a lesser amount and guarantee (with conservative investments) a comfortable life for the rest of his years. And with a 4 year contract, he'd still be only 30 years old an in the prime of his football career. A few really good years and maybe (dare we hope?) a SB title, by that time he'd be able to command probably $40 mil a year, easily. And if he doesn't do well, the lesser amount is more than he's really worth, and who doesn't like being paid that?

I expect we'll see a contract for between $23-25 million with maybe $35 mil guaranteed....

    Couple things here

** Don't think there's any question FO see him long-term
** With that said, I think Stephen would get him signed NOW at market value, rather than gambling having to pay $30M+ if he leads the team to a 2019 deep playoff run. Not to mention, looking at the big picture, Dak at $25M year will barely be a top 10 deal 2-3 years from now. One agent on Twitter said to keep an eye on three QBs ( Goff, Wilson and Mahomes ) contracts over the next two years. They are going blow position numbers to pieces. In fact, he estimated Mahomes could be the first $40M per year QB with the first $200M deal. So imagine when numbers start skyrocketing $35-40M range but we're lucky to have our starting QB locked in at $25M.

The question is, does Jerry honestly believe Dak is an elite “franchise” QB? JJ has a history of maxing-out players he believes are stars, although Stephen’s influence has obviously tempered this in recent years.

If Jerry is seriously a “true believer” in regards to Dak, then Prescott’s gonna get paid large $$ soon.

That's why I am starting to dislike Dak as a person. I've never heard Brady talk like that. I'd franchise twice and try to move up in the draft in 2 years and draft a legit franchise QB. But Jones won't. We will overpay.

I'm just saying it's easy to find a mediocre QB. We found one ourselves in the 4th round.

    Don't pay mediocrity big money.
