I was excited. Poor coaching was our reason for three 5-11 seasons and all the mistakes and lack of discipline we showed on the field. I knew Parcells would benefit our team in that area. I thought we would contend for the Superbowl this year and show more consistency in general. I was just suprised he didn't stockpile younger talent sooner.
After last season, I was convinced Parcells wasn't the man for us because of his stubborn adherence to old veterans. I understand that you should bring players you trust but at what expense? Do you necessarily have to start them? Can't you bring them here as depth and use them as positive locker room influences. From guys like Ryan Young to Vinny T., I realized Parcells love for veterans had as much to do with his impatience in developing youth as it did with wanting "yes" men. I knew that our core was weak and we needed to build it the right. Instead, Parcells was signing people like Keyshawn and Bledsoe who were immediate but not long term solutions to the problem.
I was very suprised by the initial success we had this season and I thought BP proved me wrong. But the recent mistakes and sloppy play on offense just reinforced my earlier prediction. While these veterans on offense were solid, they were not playmakers and that could be felt when we needed plays against our toughest competition.
