I'd say more to Steve McNair. Haven't seen much of Bortles game.

McNair was a much better passer than Dak. Dak is more athletic than McNair ever was. I like Dak but I’d take McNair at this stage in their careers 10 times out of 10.

I don’t see the Bortles similarities other than Dak having a bad 2nd half which Bortles has had pretty much his entire career. I think the McNabb comparisons are pretty spot on. And you can win with Dak like the Eagles won with McNabb. Of course, Philly had a much better coaching staff to guide their young QB. Dallas doesn’t have that luxury...

I take Dak over Bortles any day of the week.

After a few years, yes, but McNair had similar struggles to DAK his first couple years. He never was the most accurate, but learned to play at a high level in spite of it.

To me he reminds me more of Alex Smith. When Smith was in some of those offenses in SF that didn’t fit him he had bad numbers put him in the KC offense and he has been good. Dak’s numbers last year look a lot like Alex’s good numbers do I think if Dak is in the right offense he has more upside than Alex. Both are mobile without the strongest arms but look what Alex did with Hill and I think Dak’s arm is a little stronger.

Best QB comparison to Dak IMO Donovan McNabb imo. That's meant as a compliment, considering McNabb accomplished. Similar size, durable, nothing pretty or sexy about their game but they'll you Ws with feet, legs, decent arm and ball security.
Donovan way better not even close

I think he's kinda like Steve Bulein but with less arm and precision ( don't try to bring up dink and dunk percentages )

This is such a fallacy......this is one of those statements a sportscaster made somewhere and rather do their on research, they take it as gospel.

I just googled NFL QB armstrength and looked up the first three sports entities that popped up and in less than two minutes of research here's what I found:
1. NFL.com.......this particular article was 2014, so it was no help.

2. Next was Bleacher report: They just listed the top 10 in armstrength..........Dak was #9 on the list.

3. The third one was USA today: They did a 1-10 rating...........Dak was at 8.5 guess who else had an 8.5 rating? Carson Wentz.... of which we hear has a "cannon", yet Dak has a Noodle" arm with the same rating.

My point is, these sports talk shows have favorite teams just like we do and will pump up their favorites downplay their hated teams, so instead of buying into so quickly search it out before taking their opinion as absolute truth, check it out yourself.

Aww c'mon Ron. You want us to think on our own man. Seriously where has that got mankind :igglestrophy:

I'm not great at comparing specific QBs, but from what i have watched I think Dak is the kind of QB that has obvious accuracy limitations downfield, to me is a bit too risk-averse. I do think he is a great leader with enough natural ability to win with if you have a really good supporting cast. To me, the caliber of QB i think he can become is somewhere between Alex Smith and Eli Manning. He is a much different style of QB than those two, but production wise that is his ceiling, IMO.
Which brings me back to the fact that Dallas needs to build a dominant defense and maintain a great running game.

There’s some similarities but Dak doesn’t have the pure arm talent Bortles does, IMO.
Mr Cowboysfan917---- I totally concuur with your statement....Dak does not have arm talent....He is a big strong guy and it looks like ( to me ) the football he throws weighs 25 pounds....He looks like he revs up to really throw hard but not much velocity on the ball?...i dont get it...he being so strong...it must be he is not in unison upper body to lower body...he does not efficiently and quickly transfer his weight from back to front foot....so not enough hip torque....and so on....and he is not in control of his throws...go too high or too low....so i must concuur with you...its about lack of arm talent...and i dont think you can teach this?....one either has it or they dont...who was the big 250 pound left handed thrower form Florida that won the heisman but had a big zero for arm talent and he is now trying to play baseball?....if he could have been improved he would have

Let’s hope they aren’t saying the same about Dak!!
mr SeanLee50---- i am thinking the exact same thing....its not that 9-7 is so horrible....but...its the way we lost those games....we looked utterly inept...like even worse
than 2015?.....Dak cannot take over a game when other things break down...he might take over a series or maybe a quarter of a game....but with all the mistakes Tony Romo made....he could take over a game sometimes...when our O Line was the worst in NFL Tony would carve out a win for cowboys....Dak needs top notch supporting cast to just be adequate....so yes i hope we are not thinking the same for Dak as Jaworski says about Bortles?....but this coming year is total...PUT UP OR SHUT UP...i mean i hope it is
unless Jerah says ...hey man...i am still worth 4 billion so mediocrity is not treating me so bad...lets keep these bunch of CLOWNS another year?

Completion %: Dak 65.2%, Blake 59.1%
TD %: Dak 4.7%, Blake 4.0%
INT %: Dak 1.8%, Blake 2.9%
Yards per attempt: Dak 7.4, Blake 6.7
QB rating: Dak 95.5, Blake 80.8

Don't let your emotions cloud your judgment.
Thank you very much for bringing up the facts. Not only are the facts on Dak’s side, but I think the intangibles are to. I strongly believe Dak wants to be a great QB. Dak has a strong work ethic and will work his tail off to be as successful as he can be. Only problem is Garrett and his Offensive passing system. Hopefully, Dak can overcome Garrett and his lame passing system. You ever notice Garrett and Linehan seldom chip for their OT’s even if their getting beat like a drum. It’s insane!!!!

What? Prescott isn't even remotely like McNair. Who probably still has more arm talent as a corpse.
I didn’t like that lame post. Take my name off of it!! It’s disrespectful and untrue. Dak will be our QB for the next 15 years, sorry Fallen Star.

I think Dak will have a Flacco type of career. Good enough to get to the big game but can't carry the burden. He will need help, particularly a strong defense and the run game.

I don't see the comparisons to Bortles(terrible) and McNair(better passer).
McNair threw a prettier spiral, but was not more accurate. I’ll take accuracy all day every day.

Who’s Steve Bulein? Is he related to Bobby Boo-shay the Water Boy? Just kidding. I know Steve B.. Daks going to be more successful than Steve B. because his game will progress and improve because of his special work ethic and attitude. Much of being a successful QB is in between the ears. Dak has it there.

Exactly....Bortles hasn’t even dreamed of a season like Dak put up as a rookie. Bortles has always sucked. There are lots of people and things to blame for Dak’s average or less than average performance this year (and he has to own part of that), but those who try to rewrite history and say he was good or wasn’t accurate or made bad decisions in 2016 can’t provide a shred of evidence...just their own hot air. Dak IS our franchise QB, and that won’t change unless he finishes his rookie contract stick on this downturn. The goal is to get him back towards his rookie performance, and any coach would be working on that premise until Dak proves he can’t get back there. Announcers, coaches, players, and former QBs all gushed over him in 2016. He was good enough that year to win a SB. I’d bet Jacksonville would trade Bortles for Dak without a second thought.
