Dak did not play well

I thought Dak played pretty well for his first NFL start. He wasn't very efficient only completing 55.6% of his passes with a 69.4 passer rating but he didn't turn the ball over. Part of his lack of efficiency was due to us being in a lot of long down situations because Zeke didn't even average 3.0 a carry. Dak didn't throw any TD's and for us to win games with him at QB he's going to have to improve his efficiency and throw some TD's. This is a Cowboys team that needs great play from its QB. We saw a lot of the same problems yesterday that we saw last season. Our running game wasn't consistent and we bogged down in the redzone having to settle for FG's. Our defense once again relinquished the lead late in the 4th quarter only needing to hold the Giants to a FG to maintain a 3 point advantage.

I was surprised how inconsistent our running game was and was shocked how bad Zeke looked. He looked so bad we should have stayed with Morris who averaged 5.0 a carry. All Zeke did was run into piles averaging only 2.6 a carry. I'm sure the fans who were against picking him in the draft were seething after his performance. Zeke better get it going next week or he won't be starting for long. Dak needs a consistent running game and we have to avoid long down situations with him. We were so far behind the chains on one 3rd down he threw one out to Witten just to pick up a few yards.

Stats are the reality of what happened and do not lie. Your eyes lie if they told you Prescott played well. He didn't. He was bottom quartile of the league yesterday.
Well, don't watch the game and just look at the stats after the game...smh

Yep, everyone but delusional Cowboy fans thought he played well. I don't know what people expected. The guy is a rookie. I guess he was supposed to look like a 10 year vet.

Agree. The guy is a rookie, had zero turnovers, had control in the huddle and game and made strong throws. He had 2 TD drops and was forced to win with ZERO running game. I'm not sure where half the fans here came from but anyone expecting automatic slinging the ball around, 4 TD games is delusional. Kid was poised and played well enough to win. There were some roll outs(not enough) where he squared up and threw ropes where I was like "wow." Dumb penalties and mistakes kept the down and distance tough.

It's soooo great when the two percenters try to be cute with throw away lines like this. I know it wasn't meant to be taken literally, it's just that you guys are frustrated beyond belief.

But wait!

Maybe...just maybe Tony was awful in his 5th season. We better check and see lest any youngsters get the wrong impression.

Tony Romo in his 5th season...

63.1% - Completion Percentage
4,483 - yards
26 - TD's
9 - INT's
97.6 - QB Rating

And leave Candice out of this. She's trying to raise two kids. :(
What no stats from the 6th season I wonder why LOL

So you recognize that there is a qualifier to the idea that Dak played "well?"

Sure. You don't?

I don't expect a rookie in his first game to play on the equal of Romo whom is in his 10+ season.

Again, Dak didn't do anything that lost us the game. At all. Beasley drops an easy TD pass on the first drive. Dez can't bring in a sure TD and had another TD pass in his hands as well. Williams can't get out of bounds at the end either.

If Dak had only had about half of the drops caught that occurred, his stats and the game itself would have been a different story.

I know in my heart the way he was kicking yesterday Bailey nails that 57 yarder.

But now we'll never know.

He may never be as good as Romo or a good starting quality QB but hes at least a decent backup at worst

Anything's possible but I expect Dak will be an excellent starting QB upon getting the needed experience to develop. Only time will tell, though.

Right now he has no touch. Romo throws what us qbs call "a catchable pass".

Dak is throwing it at his relievers not to them.

Morris is a better back right now because he has the experience and he worked with the line during preseason. he should get more carries but Elliott is the better back and he will get better.

Also, the Giants were playing the run on most plays that Elliott was on the field. When Morris was in there, I don't think they were run committing that much because Morris is a very good receiver out of the backfield.

Alfred Morris is not regarded as a good receiver - he has 47 catches in four seasons.

Morris ran better because he was more patient and quicker through the hole. Elliott looked like a guy who missed a lot of training camp. Not to worry, he will significantly improve with time.

Let's be clear on that. Yeah, there were some missed catches by the receivers, but there were also some really bad throws that were missed interceptions by the defense. Let's just focus on the facts. Of the 28 quarterbacks, Dak ranked...
  • 26th in passing efficiency
  • 28th in yards per attempt
  • 22nd in completion percentage
  • 21st in adjusted net yards per attempt
In no way did he play well in an absolute sense. He was poor yesterday. You can argue that he was OK for a rookie, but he did not play well yesterday. At all.

Maybe he did and maybe he didn't (have not watched the game, yet) but I commend you for having the guts to state your opinion.

From what I have read, though, he did not get much help (offense or defense) from anyone except Witten and Morris.

Jesus dude. He did FINE. He didn't turn the ball over, made first downs with his feet, checked out of plays. Stayed cool. Took hits in the pocket. He's a 4th round rookie in a divisional game facing a 100 million dollar defense. His team and coaching however, did horribly. He was one of maybe 2-3 bright spots to me.

His receivers aren't used to catching balls with pace on them. Dak and his receivers will both require time to adjust to one another. One thing that he'll probably learn from Romo is to work on adjusting his throws to fit the receivers strengths and weaknesses. Romo's been working on that for many years, along with his own mechanical techniques.

No, I do think there is a qualifier. As did the OP. And everyone is attacking him for it.

Dak was as expected yesterday.

A rookie.

He wasn't great but he wasn't bad either. He missed on throws, receivers dropped passes, and defenders missed on plays they could have made on him.

That's called football.

Fine != Well.

This thread:

OP - "Dak didn't play that well overall. You can say he was okay for a rookie though."

Others - "You're crazy! He was great for a rookie making his first start. What did you expect?"

People before the game:

"Dak to the future!" "Romo is done, Dak is the future and the future is now!" "All aboard the Dak train!"

It's pretty embarrassing.

Hopefully yesterday showed those who were foolish enough to believe Dak was the better QB, even now, over Romo exactly how wrong they are.

Dak needs time. As do all rookies. He's getting some valuable experience now, that he can use to build on later.

But this team absolutely needs Romo. That is without question. Although it always should have been without question.

His play warrants a C grade. That's an average grade. He made no real bad mistakes but he also didn't make any plays that made you sit back and think to yourself, what a player.

But because he was a rookie making his first start, we'll curve his play score up to a C+/B- level.

Enough to say I want to see more, but not nearly enough to conclude that, hot damn, we have our franchise QB for the next 10 years.
