Dak did not play well

Let's be clear on that. Yeah, there were some missed catches by the receivers, but there were also some really bad throws that were missed interceptions by the defense. Let's just focus on the facts. Of the 28 quarterbacks, Dak ranked...
  • 26th in passing efficiency
  • 28th in yards per attempt
  • 22nd in completion percentage
  • 21st in adjusted net yards per attempt
In no way did he play well in an absolute sense. He was poor yesterday. You can argue that he was OK for a rookie, but he did not play well yesterday. At all.

talk about misuse of stats, so you base his performance on numbers that do lie......

If you watched him play the game, you can see he was able to move the ball, looked comfortable behind center, and had 2 or 3 balls thrown that had they been caught, you wouldn't of even started this thread.

Apparently some people in this forum feel threatened by Dak, like he is already slotted to take Romo's job right now or something?! why? well you can calm down, he didn't do that in one game so rest assured.

Does he have the potential to take over when Romo is finished? you bet he does, sorry if that hurts your feelings. Does he have some room to grow, yeah of course he does as he is a 4th round rookie afterall, but yesterdays game reinforces the thinking that will be our next great QB not the other way around.

I mean Troy Aikman's first game was not impressive at all at 17 of 35 for 180 yards 0 tds 2 ints 2 sacks, so first game STATS mean absolutely nothing! what he does on the field does

It was the same thing that usually happens. The OTHER coach goes in at half time, figures out EXACTLY what the Cowboys are doing well and adjusts. Garrett never adjusts so we get beat in the 2nd half on coaching alone.

Like I mentioned in another post. Garrett's tenure as HC and O-Coordinator has proven that if you can stop the deep pass, you're going to win.

Dak

Unlike Dak, Wentz's receivers made hard catches for him.

In the end we did not lose that game because of Dak. He gave us an opportunity to win but when you have a bone headed coaching staff what more did you want him to do. Calling screen and flat passes to Witten says it all.
The screen pass to Witten was the most confusing thing I have ever seen and yep I was drunk, but even being sober today makes it no less confusing

So are you saying that Russell played well in his first game?
I'm saying QBs take time to develop. I think some of you are forgetting the first game of 2014 where Romo basically threw the game against SF. If you think this was a bad game maybe you should go back and watch that one.

It sure would be nice to see Dez get some of Wittens underneath receptions and see what he could do.

I don't think anyone forgot that game. It was bad. What I think is that people aren't comprehending the fact that "Playing well" and "Playing well for a rookie making his first start" are two separate things. And that "not playing well" is not the same thing as being awful, the reason for the loss, or that the QB has no future or upside.

Agreed.

It's the same logic that was crazy just a week ago when half of the posters here on CZ claimed that Dak would go #1 overall in a NFL redraft based on 7-8 quarters of pre-season play.

Where you one of those people?

Dak was not our problem but he's not going to go win us games right now. He's developing. Bryant needs to pick up his game and the defense needs to play better.

Dak had as many bad passes that should have been interceptions. The Beasley missed touchdown was the only egregious drop I remember. The others were difficult catch attempts and often poorly thrown balls. Look, I'm not projecting Prescott to be a bad player. I think he has a bright future. But the notion that he played well yesterday just does not jibe with reality. He didn't.

That right shows that you either didn't watch the entire game or that you don't understand it.

Not to mention, his some of his numbers are inflated with dink and dunks on 3rd and longs

Stats are the reality of what happened and do not lie. Your eyes lie if they told you Prescott played well. He didn't. He was bottom quartile of the league yesterday.

Stats are not the reality of what happened. The stats you provide do nothing to adjust for competition, drops, lack of running support, play calling, etc.

Dak played as well as one could have reasonably expected him to. But I think you knew that.

Ok, great.. I'm just curious to what you all were expecting? Y'all thought his first game he was going to be Tom Brady?

Dak had a good game. How much more do you expect from a rookie on his first game?
