Why need a number 1, it’s going to go like this hand of to Zeke, hand off to Zeke, keep the ball on RPO
I have a feeling the defenses are going to shorten the field until a WR makes something happen down field

I think you are underestimating the fact that zeke opens the field for the wrs because he draws extra attention

Dak Prescott - QB - Cowboys
Dak Prescott said he doesn't think the Cowboys need a No. 1 receiver.

. Now Prescott is left with a paper-thin receiving corps featuring free agent signing Allen Hurns, Terrance Williams, slot receiver Cole Beasley and third-round rookie Michael Gallup.

paper thin is good, they will be fast , defense cant hang with them , lol :laugh:I

And then they'll be proclaiming how Dak "found" his accuracy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ya, will you cant see what you have until you give what you have what they need.
Now we will see what we really have in Dak, that's all I wanted as a fan, Im not proclaiming to be Nostradamus, but now the table is set for Dak to prove it.

I really hope the coaches use Austin correctly. Don't like the RB/scat back role for him. I believe he can do more. Especially deep.
His best season came in 2015 when he played a suped up version of that role. 52/473/5td in the air and 52/434/4td on the ground. Almost 1000 total yards and 10 touchdowns. That is the best way to utilize him. Linehan used Reggie Bush in a similar role in 2014 and Bush had statistically one of his 2 best pro seasons. He said he had a plan for Tavon coming into the draft, let’s hope that’s wasn’t just talk.

Absolutely agree.

Our previous Wr core was built for the ‘Romo Era’ and it wasn’t conducive to Daks style of play. That’s not a knock on Dak by any means. Romo was a polished veteran. Dak was only in his sophomore season last year and is refining his skills as expected.

As far as the 2017 receivers go.. the fact is:
  • Dez- his poor route running is well known and leading the league in drops didn’t help. His best attribute was being a physical WR, the “50-50” ball, and being an emotional leader (sometimes to a fault). His skills wasn’t a great fit for a young QB that’s known for protecting the ball (with accuracy issues at times), but’s there’s not a doubt in my mind that Dez could return to his 2014 form under a established veterans QB like Rodgers, Brees, etc..
  • Williams- also well known body catcher that didn’t create much separation as he’s not considered a ‘burner’. Yet, he found holes in the secondary when plays broke down and Dak scrambling. All it took was an slightly above average CB to take him out of games.
  • Beasley- again, not a burner.. but he was the one Wr you could count on to create space with his quickness. Defenses figured it and out and started doubling him up. This was made easier since Beasley was only a threat for ab 10-15 yards down field.
  • “Gold Jacket” Witten- as good as he was, no defense was worried ab his speed. He boxed defenders out like no other, timing of throws was critical
At the end of the day, defenses figured out how to shut down our WRs due largely bc of our on limitations, in short.. we were predictable. This is how I invision a DC talking right before the game..

“Put our best Cb on Dez and shade S coverage to prevent the jump ball. Play Williams straight up and see if he can beat us. We’ll use our best coverage LB to help over the top with Beasley and put the most physical secondary player on Witten”

Whether people like our rebuilt core or not, the truth is.. defenses will have to throw the old D playbook out and try to figure out who to cover from week to week. We’ve added a bunch of speed & polished route runners that’s more indicative to Daks game. He’ll be throwing to who ever gets open. And that’s harder to scheme against than what we rolled out there last year.

I know a lot of folks don’t like Scott Linehan “predictable” play calling, but it makes me wonder that he was limited also due to each players limitations. I personally believe, we’re going to see a “revised” look on offense. Of course, not totally different bc we are still a run first team. Hopefully our OL will reclaim thier top status and we’ll have Zeke without suspension ready to prove a point. I really like our Offense. I won’t guess how good they’ll be, but they will be good nonetheless.
This man makes a great point. Are we really telling ourselves we would be happy with the same receiving core as 2017? If we kept that same group do we honestly think there would be an improvement? This switch might save Dak’s career and reputation. If they brought out the same group as last year and the offense looked like it did in weeks 10-12, Dak’s career would go down the drain.

Isn't it funny how RB weren't important any more, and then suddenly they were? Man, I almost feel sorry for those who believe that krappfest they spew on TV.

I think they fell out of favor for high draft picks due to their propensity for injury. But Murray in 2014 and Zeke in 2016 have brought about their reemergence. I love smash mouth football.

Seems like all our recievers had a down year last season..all at the same time!, yet nobody around here wants to put any of that responsibility on the guy who touches the ball on every offensive snap.
It’s not that hard to see. It doesn’t have to do with them magically having a down year, it’s about facts. Did Dez decline? That’s a resounding yes. He remains unsigned and has only had interest from one team. He was 98th in the leagues in yards of separation. He’s a 1-trick pony who needs elite ball placement to be effective. Look at the film as the rest of the league has done and you’ll see a guy who does few things well. T-Will is a headache as anything other than a blocker. For every clutch tip toe grab there’s 3 boneheaded mistake, fumble or drops. Even if he might not have declined athletically last year, it’s evident that without Dez commanding the attention he used to, Williams is unable to step up and play a bigger role. He is completely dependent on Dez to be the Robin to his Batman. Beas is a slot guy, a simple bracket coverage takes him out the game. It wasn’t some magic fall off, just a matter of a declining Dez and a coaching staff that didn’t have any adjustments. When the passing offense runs through one guy, and that guy isn’t the same and no longer has a rapport with the QB; the whole receiver group takes a step back. Hence the emphasis on a by committee approach where multiple guys can hurt a defense. Seems logical to me.

The Patriots do have a number one though.. Gronk.

And Cooks is better than anything we have now..
People like overlook that He was chucking it to Randy Moss in his best season as well as Welker. Who stuck around for several seasons. Brady late career hasn't been stiffed talent.

Not being a jerk, but if you dislike Dak so much why not pull for a different team?
My fantasy team has nothing to do with pulling for the Cowboys, so why don't you mind yo business.

Overall, he was terrible. Problem was, he simply lacked the core strength, so anytime he played against someone w/ brute strength, he got owned. And that was never going away. Chaz Green has been his equal.
Chaz is worse as of right now. He might have been bad but Chaz green owns a historically bad game.

Lol, I guess Atlanta doesn't need Julio, The Steelers don't need AB and the Lions are doing just as great without Megatron. Sure Dak, keep waiving that company flag, right until you become JG's next scapegoat.

My thought is we need a legit deep threat to help the entire offense. He is the closest thing we have besides Butler.
