There's no way out of this cleanly.

Dead cap will be there in 2025 if cut/traded post June 1st here. More dead cap for a June 1st trade as the 5mil roster bonus would be applied to the 2024 dead cap.
Even if they let him walk in 2025, there will be a 36mil dead cap from the accelerated void year prorated signing bonus hitting all at once.
36mil dead if moved this offseason post 6/1 or walks in 25.

Even if he signs a new deal, the 2025 cap hit would be
New base salary + new prorated signing bonus + 25mil older prorated bonus. So, 2025 cap hit will be in the 30's at the minimum.
Same goes for 2026 with a 11mil existing prorated cap hit.

I honestly think it's now up to Dak if he will continue his career as a Cowboy. As stated before, I think Jerry is drawing the line....

Except for the Dak dance and the Here we goooooooooooooooooo what has this soon to be EX-Cowboy offered?
NADA!!!!
HAPPY TRAILS................DAKTRASH and I pity your new team if you can find one as a starter.

I could see it. I think they either extend Dak with a contract that gives the FO an out at some point before it ends or they will eat the cap hit this year knowing that we're probably screwed in 2024, and they'll try to build something in 2025.
There’s going to be a ton of dead money regardless, and not just from Prescott.

This is why you plan to win within a window knowing that you’re going to bite the bullet for a couple of years down the road.

I mean, what’s the sense of being cheap in FA and leave yourself short when you’re going to have cap problems in a year or two anyway??

Btw I seriously doubt “all in” means some FA bonanza. It means he is going to have to part with a bunch of up front money for restructures in order to keep the band together.

This whole Dak contract is a mess no matter which way they go. What a stupid contract from the word 'Go'. I will be 100% shocked if they don't extend him. It's such a Jerry/Cowboys thing to do. Let's be clear, I don't want that to happen. I want them to allow him 1 more "prove it" season (though we all know how that ends) and then let's move the hell on. See what Lance can do (which I'm not expecting much, but it's change).

We all know our luck around here though.

Is it just me......coz it seems Jerry is saying yes, we wanna extend Dak but not at any cost, he has to work with us. In other words, he and Todd France will not get a blank check coz it appears they have all the leverage.

BTW........Keep in mind, this likely gets resolved before the new league year ( March 17 or 18 ) coz that's when Dak's massive cap hit goes on the books.

Reporters pressed Jerry Jones about his hesitation about Prescott compared to this time a year ago, and Jones’ response was a word salad.

“I’m unequivocal about it right now,” Jones said. “We’ve got a lot of contract work to do. I’m unequivocal about all of the contracts. I can be unequivocal about all the contracts. But we’re going to have to adjust all contracts to get as many of the very players that you could ask me about singly under contract. The facts are that it’s obvious who your top players are. It’s obvious who the players we want back would be. That’s obvious. It very obvious here in my mind. And so anything I’ve said, like last year, I said we see a picture of him going forward for many years, that’s alive and well. Yes, we sure do, but we’ve got a lot of contracts to address.”
It sounded to me like Jeruh is prepared to play chicken with Dak. He stated before that it would be unlikely that the cap would be figured out before the beginning of free agency.

We are rarely involved with free agency early anyway, but saying we are going all would indicate that would be a possibility.

Dak's contract should be the first domino to fall. CD, Micah and everyone else know this, including CD's Mama and Micah's brother. I believe this is where the drama is coming from.

Jeruh is putting pressure on Dak to take a team friendly deal and it is dividing the team. Jeruh's
word salad is basically airing out dirty laundry.

So going all in this year, without the future in mind would indicate that Jeruh is open to the idea that this could be Dak's last year. Which would force us to deal with CD's and Micah's contracts next year. Maybe this is why Lance was brought in, in an attempt to put some pressure on Dak and appease some fan's that we have a potential back up plan or at least a transition plan.

His holistical approach comment, is laughable to me, because that is what real GM's are supposed to every year. At the end of the day Dak still and more importantly his agent are still holding all the cards.

I don't believe Jeruh can really make any big significant moves without Dak's contract being redone. The pressure is on Jeruh from the fans. Only concern for Dak is playing on a 1 year deal and risking potential injury.

Exactly my problem with the cheapness in FA. If you know you're going to have cap problems anyway later and you can give yourself a better chance at winning the SB by using the Fa market to acquire sufficient talent to fill your obvious problems, then do it. Frankly, I'd rather they stayed at Valley Ranch if they're going to maintain this attitude. What was the point of building the Star if you're not going to use it to sign top FAs that have made it clear they want to sign here? Why not get Bobby Wagner who couldn't have been more clear about his desire to play here? Might have helped keep Aaron Jones out of the end zone. Why not get Derrick Henry? We piss away our second round draft picks anyway. Might as well use it to get the best RB possible to fix a clear and obvious problem that was known entering the season. But no, Jerry doesn't use logic.

You can go back and find exactly the same quotes about Daks contract from Jerry right up until Dak walked out with 40 million/y, no trade clause and no franchise tag

The Joneses are morons when it comes to football knowledge and NFL contracts
Yep, Jerry said the same thing last time. Jerry is extending Dak to a big contract, and seal the cowboys fate to a one and done team....if they make the playoffs.

Don't be surprised if Dak tries to push for 65 to 70 minimum.
Just stop........$65 would put him $10M more than the highest-paid QB (Burrow) and you are saying it would be his floor. It defies logic and makes zero sense. Hell, even if he had won Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP he would be extremely lucky to $60M ( $56-58M more likely).

Sometimes i feel like Jerry has watched too much PeeWee's playhouse and he picks a word of the day and uses it repeatedly sometimes not correctly might i add.
WORD OF THE DAY IS:
unequivocal

If they don't extend him and he's gone after this year, then that embarrassment this year might actually be worth something.

Things have to change, extending a middle aged qb that chokes in big moments is not going to help
He doesn’t choke in big moments but the defense sure does.

TB dealt with like $80 million in dead cap $ this year and still made the playoffs. And gave a much better account of themselves than the Cowboys did.
I'm not suggesting the route we go. I'm saying this is what will happen.

It’s definitely going to be near the top of the league. As usual market price .
Was does a choking deer in the headlights QB go for at market price?
Or better yet what are 2 playoff wins in 8 seasons at market price?
Please take that Market Price song and dance and sell crazy elsewhere bud.
