Twitter: Dalton Schultz compares Texans vs Cowboys culture

That offer was THE YEAR BEFORE.
Schultz passed and they tagged him.

But yes, they did not cut him.
They let him play out his franchise tag and hit free agency.
They moved on with Ferguson as expected starter and always planned to draft someone out of a very deep TE draft.
The Landry Hat is not media, it is just dudes.
But the confusion is an actual line form a real media member:

Albert Breer of then SI.
One gamble that hasn’t worked—Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz betting on himself and playing on the franchise tag in 2023. Schultz had a three-year, $36 million deal at one point. I get why he’d pass that up. But the fallout hasn’t been pretty. Schultz played on a $10.9 million franchise tender last year, and now he’s unsigned and still on the market about a week into free agency.

Sheesh

Its all just numbers isn't it.. you see it so often you get used to it.

Imagine being paid $36 million for 3 years work.. 3 years and you could retire and go surfing for the rest of your life.

Jerry seems to feed off distractions because it draws attention to the Cowboys. His training camps are like attending a carnival.
Jerry deserves plenty of slander but that has been the Cowboys way since the very late 60s.
There are books about it which are quite excellent reading.
It is the biggest NFL brand and basically always have been.

Jerry bought the brand; he didn't create it.

I was gonna say these same “distractions” existed when we were winning titles. Heck I remember it from the end of Landry’s tenure. Everyone was talking about the Cowboys, even when they were terrible.

The irony is he played on 11M, then 6M and now just signed a 3-year 36M deal he could have had 2 years ago.

He's not going to be hurting but he very likely did make less money this way.

If that is true, then I stand corrected. However, the article in Sports Illustrated, dated March of 2023 is titled:

Dalton Schultz Says 'No' to Cowboys 'Solid Offer'; Becoming NFL Highest-Paid TE?

This was published after Schultz had played 1 season under the franchise tag in 2023. It states that Schultz "already turned down "a pretty solid multiyear offer" from the Cowboys. It's not specific as to when that offer was made. (before or after the franchise tag season)

I'm genuinely interested if you or anyone has a definitive source either way. I'm of the opinion that the departure of Schultz was due to salary not performance.

There may be books whether there’s much truth in them or not but today with social media everything about the Cowboys makes headlines. Jerry bought the brand and made it more lucrative and popular than any brand.

Another ambiguous take on the same original Sports Illustrated story, from USA Today (March 20, 2023):

"According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Schultz apparently turned down a massive three-year, $36 million contract. The implication is that he thought he could do better with a larger offer. He could not, as Schultz remained unsigned over a week into this year’s free-agent period.

On Monday, the now ex-Cowboy finally settled for a deal with the Houston Texans worth … “up to” $9 million. That’s right, Schultz declined $36 million and eventually settled for a contract that will only reach $9 million if he hits particular (undisclosed) incentives.""

You know......If the fans owned the franchise, we would go to the Super Bowl every year!!!! Just saying.

Does this franchise have a culture problem? Absolutely. I blame the horrific owner for being more about making money than winning.

With that said, if it was so bad and affected the team so much, we wouldnt have gone 12-5 three years in a row.

The Quarterback pooping his pants against good teams is probably our biggest issue
dak being trash is tied with d being weak/soft. Keep it a buck

Beat the Packers.
Best the Lions
3 Times a charmer you get revenge on the Niners in the NFCCG.
