good player but a dumb pick, so yeah it's probably accurate. I'd take Nolen, Harmon, Pearce over a WR
IMHO, they can not pass on getting a stud DT/DE if they get the chance.
Harmon is the only one of those guys Id take over Burden. Burden is potential top 10 pick. He is a much better prospect than Pearce or Nolan

How would you know? To me it makes sense to grab some of these young dlinemen in the draft.
This class is much deeper at DT than it is at WR. If we drafted a DT in the 2nd there is a good chance he would be a 2024 starter. If we drafted a WR in the 2nd there is a good chance he is behind both Tolbert and Mingo

So then our depth chart would be....

Mingo
Lamb
Tolbert
Brooks
Turpin
Burden III

If he can beat out Cropper for the 6th spot and that's a big if.

It's not easy to draft for this team.

This is my whole thing…now I think a 2nd round WR would compete for a job but a 1st round WR in the top 15 likely walks in and is a day 1 #2.

Letting Cooper go wasn’t a money thing it was a poor Jerry decision…per the usually.

Having enough money to have 2 high end WRs is not an issue our FO is just stubborn. Secondly having 1 weapon is not enough - most legit contenders have AT LEAST 2.

I agree we have a lot of holes so don’t need to force the pick but WR is a massive need.
I see WR as a need, but not massive. Yes you need 2 good WR, but only one needs to be elite to demand the double. You have that already in CD, so why add another when you have so many holes.

WR 1 is an A
QB 1 is a B
RB 1 is a C- or D
OL overall is a B
TE is a B+

DT is a D
DE is a B but is sometimes an A+
LB is a C-
DB is a solid B, IMO

Fixing DT, RB, and LB (specifically Mike), are far more important that WR #2.
Finding a Brandin Cooks or other veteran WR that was a one but is older now to hold down that #2 and still allow youngsters to develop is nearly always available in the offseason. I would prefer if they didn't use high draft assets on a secondary position.

I would prefer a stud QB, stud WR1, and Stud Rb1 to 2 Stud WR, an average QB, and hoping to find Rb.

I’d consider it a massive need. Defensive game plan against us is so easy for good teams. Double Lamb and make someone else beat you 1:1 consistently and we have no one that can do that. Every other NFC playoff contender has a 1B and sometimes even a 1C. Our WR room is laughable.

Yes - we have other needs all over the roster but WR is right up there at the top with DT.

You had a #1 WR in Amari Cooper, and draft Cee Dee....but get rid of Amari because you have to pay CeeDee.
Are you ready to get rid of CeeDee? and is it time to replace him? If not, then why is Dallas contemplating a WR. You don't pay #1 prices for a #2.
:huh:You can have both Lamb and Tmac or Burden coz their rookie deals ( 4 years + 5th year option ). Hell, that means you can have 2 elite players in the WR room w/o touching contracts over the next 4 years. THIS is why I am drafting either of these players over any, other than Hunter. I can still get a RB and DT round 2 or 3.

Must admit I would pause for Graham.........but every mock has him going inside 10. But if he's there at 13, that means 3-4 players elevated their stock while he took a bit of a dive.

So then the question........Graham, Jeanty and Burden are all there at 13. Who are you drafting........

@Hawkeye0202 Graham, and without second thought.
Gives us a day 1 3 Tech with a high ceiling.
If Osa walks, that's our biggest need. And IMO while Osa is fine I rather roll the dice with Graham than pay Osa.

A good defensive line helps out everyone behind them. We haven't had a good DT since Hatcher/Ratliff.

I maintain the belief that teams need a good RB, not a great one to win games. This team maybe has a decent one in Rico.
Draft one in day 2.

WR #2 is a concern moving forward, but that's a day 2 pick, if Graham is still there.

To me, you weigh the impact and in my mind, another elite WR paired with Lamb will have far more impact not just offensively but the entire team than DT. But if you can pretty much guarantee I'm getting another Aaron Donald or Jalen Carter count me in. It appears Graham is close but he won't be there.

+1........still would wanna know why Graham dropped outside 10. But yea.....I would certainly pull the trigger if he's there.

Burden is a good WR.

But, how does he help the run game and stopping the run? You know, the 2 biggest issues for the Cowboys.
i agree with the sentiment. but just to answer the question, defenses would have to devote more attention w/ him in the fold along with ceedee, leading to lighter boxes. also they could and likely would still find an rb. defense though.... i got nothing lol

I may be wrong on this, but doesn't it feel like it's easier to hit on a rookie WR than a rookie DT?
yes and a good counterpoint. i was just stating finding a quality fa dt is not easy

3T - Mason Graham, Harmon, WNolen
1T - DWalker, Grant

At least one or more of these players will be available where Dane has Dallas drafting, and we take a #2 Wr ?

I am not for picking a Rb in the first round, but if they think Jeanty is a generational back........take him....there is your second stud on O.

I just know if you can't run, and the D knows you are passing, and your QB is not ELITE..........having a second player to throw to in the 1.5 seconds he will have to pass won't matter.

Having a RB that controls the clock and moves the sticks.......with a stud WR and a good security blanket TE, and a defense that isn't shredded up the middle is an easier concept to win it all with.

Problem is is that #1 WR is too easy to take away in the playoffs because we dont have another threat teams have to respect. And when that happens, the offense collapse. @cnuball21 is 100% right. WR absolutely should be in consideration for our #1 pick if we are serious about winning. Out of the DT's you listed, Graham will be long gone, and other than him Harmon is the only one Id take before Burden.

It should also be noted that this DT is pretty deep, especially at the top. Good DT's that could play day one should be available in the 2nd. WR. Not so much. I doubt a WR we draft in the 2nd would beat out Tolbert in year 1

We do need an upgrade at WR, but we don't need to use a top 10 pick to do it. DT/DE needs the most help of any unit on the team and to find elite players along the d-line anywhere but early in rd 1 is about as hard a thing as you can do. Pull the trigger while you have the chance to do so.

The problem with Mingo is that they might not let us play another WR if he is on the field. There is good chance the Mingo Rule. That would mean we can only play long snappers or guys over 45 at the skill positions if Mingo is on the field

This team desperately needs a RB and an elite one is sitting there for the taking. It would be the highth of stupidity not to take him.
I'm thinking that Jeanty will be BPA when the Cowboys are on the board. He is a top 5 player. I think that you have to take him. It would be an absolute disaster to let Washington take him.

I think criticizing Jerry for prioritizing glamor players devolves into groupthink at times. Its a go to mentality for some any time a skill player gets mentioned as a top pick. You have to recognize WR is a critical position. If you have one great one, you still dont have enough if you are devoid of talent behind him. Needing Lamb to catch 120-130 passes to have a viable offense is not a recipe for real success
