I'll just say this -- the moment I heard the acquisition of McFadden was a Jerry decision, I felt weak in the knees.

Did we have a change of staff regarding injuries in between last season and the year before? I can't remember but it seemed like night and day as far as injuries were concerned. Sure---we had our fair share of injuries especially on defense but nothing like the two seasons before.

They did make some changes. I've heard Garrett reference dynamic stretching and there have been a few reports that some things have changed in that area. I don't think they hired anybody new per se, but they could have hired a consultant or multiple consultants or could have attend training in new methods.

They made a big deal in Philly about Chip bring new training concepts to the team. I'm sure that are some cutting edge methods out there so it's just a matter of adopting some of them.

That is just speculation, IMO. People always want to link Jerry to Arkansas players and I think Stephen made joke about Jerry liking McFadden because he was from Arkansas. In reality the Cowboys have had very few players from Arkansas.

If they were really infatuated with players from Arkansas they would have signed Alvin Bailey a couple of years ago as a UDFA. I'm still shocked that he didn't get drafted. He was really good college player with incredible combine numbers.

Yes, I believe that is correct. IIRC, McFadden would be only the 4th player from Arkansas to ever be on the team in the Jerry era and the other 2 players were bottom of the roster guys with Felix being the only significant player from that school.

I think sometime fans go on the attack on these guys who have been dealing with injuries as if this is how the player wanted things to go. By the same token they will give passes to players who are thugs and make excuses for them.

McFadden needs to get out there and prove himself, if he doesn't then I agree he should be released but I don't say that as an attack on the man himself

The attack we're seeing by some on McFadden has to do with the fact that many weren't thrilled with the signing due to his injury history and here we are in August and he's missing part of training camp with an injury. We're getting what we expected an injury prone player and it's frustrating. Many make excuses for thugs because they've had production and all some fans/FANS care about is winning regardless a players character. McFadden hasn't averaged more than 3.4 a carry the past 3 seasons and that coupled with his injury history has everyone frustrated that he started training camp on PUP with a hamstring injury.

We'll just have to see how many games his hamstring issues or other injury issues keeps him out of. If Randle is forced to carry the majority of the load or gets injured the running game is going to take a significant hit from where it was last season. An OL can only help so much you still have to have a talented runner who can break tackles and make defenders miss if you're going to have a solid, consistent running game. A back has to show they can turn a loss into a 3-4 yard gain. They have to show they can turn what should only be a 3-4 yard gain into a 10 plus yard gain. That's all dependent on the back not the OL.

If he misses at least 2 preseason games he's going to have a tough time making the team unless the Cowboys are so thin at RB they have to keep him which will probably be the case.

They will clutch him to their chests until the bitter end. They simply have painted themselves into a corner at the position. I can't see any way they give up hope.

That is the tragic part. They actually thought he would suddenly become reliable for the first time in his professional career.

It's at least five - Clint Stoerner, Anthony Lucas, Quinton Caver, Felix Jones and McFadden.

The Sunday after the draft in 2013, on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Gil Brandt indicated that the reason why Bailey wasn't drafted was that he had mental problems - re: bipolar disorder.

The Cowboys have certainly painted themselves into a corner at RB but if McFadden is out until the 3rd preseason game (dress rehearsal) and doesn't look good in that game the odds of him getting cut are pretty high if another cut casualty looks like a better option. If he's still being affected by his hamstring by the 3rd week of preseason a drastic move could come down. None of the starters or key contributors are going to play in the final preseason game so McFadden may only have one preseason game to show what he can do. If he doesn't look good or shows signs he's still being hampered by the hamstring I don't think he makes the team IF the Cowboys feel there's a better (healthier) option out there.
