In restrictor plate racing, nobody makes a move without either "going WITH somebody" or "somebody going with you". What the hell Jr. was doing down there to begin with is beyond me.
Before I go on, I must tell you that I'm a Gordon/Hendricks guy, and Jr. is a team mate. Also, I had no problem with him while he was at DEI either. I think he won 17 races IN SPITE of DEI, not because of DEI. A lot of folks think he's a "trust-fund" NASCAR baby who wouldn't have a ride if not for the Old Man and his last name. I ALWAYS admired Jr. and respected him for bearing the weight of the Earnhardt name, and doing well IN SPITE of that pressure and not because he'd a privileged guy.
That being said, he was frustrated and in a hurry and a little short tempered because HE and HIS (same old) TEAM completely BLEW two pit stops!! I mean, even Robbie Gordon knows how to get in and out of the pits without self-inflicted calamity!! Even Micheal Waltrip! But Jr. and Tony Eury can't pull it off! After ALL THESE YEARS and a couple thousand pit-stops, to technical and detailed for these guys............
THAT was the biggest contributing factor to that little tap-dance Jr. pulled on the 83!!
Also, it's not lost on me, given the France's and the arbitrary rules, that they called the race with Kenseth in front! I live in Hawaii. I'm on the phone all day during the race with folks back East. Everyone I talked to were tracking the rain, and they all said that everywhere that little precipitation landed, it blew through town on 10-15 minutes! I'm not shocked in the least that it was probably said: "Hey, great guy to be the Daytona winner for the next year. Nice guy, a Ford guy (Rousch isn't known for restrictor plate racing all that much), great ambassador, etc........."
"Lets end this race before some schmuck wins it, while we got one of the good guys......."
Wouldn't doubt it for a nano-second.
