News: DC: Cowboys Agree To Terms With Pro Bowl DE Greg Hardy

If you're not going to give the player the guaranteed money up front, he's going to want the one year deal. I would have been willing to take the risk with the guaranteed money. He will only get more expensive next year.

Those are the perils of not being able to give the guaranteed money up front without mortgaging other contracts.

I just do not get why people find it so hard to simply understand that there is a strong chance there was give and take with this deal. I have no doubt this was more mutual than one side "winning".

I am shocked Dallas got this deal.
I guess the suspension hanging over his head made it possible but Hardy was a guy who had to be tagged to take 13mil previously.
He was on target fort a 100 million contract with maybe 30-40m guaranteed.

Getting this dude on a Melton deal was phenomenal.

Kudos to XW who suggested we could get this guy for 1 year and 12m or so. I would have never believed that.

Because this is a per game salary if he misses 6 games Dallas gains A LOT of money.

This is a one year deal.
This is Greg Hardy's prove it deal while auditioning for the team that will sign him next year.

we need details big time because 11 million sounds like alot of coin for guy who is going to be suspended atleast 4 games. I just want to know how much is guaranteed for this year.

What happens when they don't respond to the inquiry? :D

just keeps getting worse and worse. 2 thumbs down for the cowboys staff. what a bunch of idiots. Jerry would have had him locked up. I cant even be happy because the guy is a renter and will probably miss the first 4 or 6 games.

Great job letting him use the Cowboys to get a big contract next year from another team. So stupid!

Geesh, talk about no clue. . .

Dude, they just got this guy for a cap hit of 2.65m and you are complaining?
They gave him zero signing bonus and zero guaranteed money.
ALL the risk is on HARDY.

Thank you Sir, as if that is merely baffling with the truth. I agree, even if Texas isn't the show me state. Good job Stephen.

So cap experts, how much money do we have left to spend this season?

Still around 6m with out making any other moves at last check but it is possible they snuck in a signing on me.
I don't know that they will be making any other moves immediately.
I think they'll keep trying to get terms with Ro McClain but mainly focus on the draft.

I think this was a situation where you take that risk and give him the long term deal he wants. All that guaranteed money isn't hitting the 2015 cap. I'd gamble on this young elite player now rather than hope I can out bid a number of teams next year.

We have no idea what the negotiations were. It could be that he was looking for a long-term deal with Suh-like money (19 million per). Would you guys be happy if we were strapped with something like that?

I am just glad he's a Cowboy. Get him into the program, get him back into football, and let's see how this plays out. Stated differently: negotiations are not over.

no you write the contract that after the first year he is owed X amount of money if he is still on the team by a certain date . We could have made him a long term deal and paid him as a top DE but had a out after year one. If he proves his worth after year one he gets his pay day that's already agreed. We just did a contract like that with another player

Wanted more years but its a prove it deal. He balls out this season we will lock him up long term no doubt.

Your right, lock him up for the long haul.

Somewhere Eli, Bradford and the skins qb's are ****ting themselves.
Greg Hardy. A healthy (albeit still mostly unproven) Demarcus Lawrence. I'm hoping the camera focuses on Manning's eyes as he scans left-to-right and back again during our first division game this season. That will be kinda fun to see.

Well....what now?

We have an exciting DL rotation: Hardy, Lawrence, Mincey, Crawford. Do we go CB, LB, S, in FA? I'm guessing we still try something with McClain.
