I liked it quite a bit, which surprised me.

Maybe I'm getting old, but raunchy humor is just kind of tired for me nowadays. Those kinds of jokes just aren't well crafted or clever and typically the whole joke is "omg I can't believe he said that".

But I thought parts of this movie were really funny and I think they executed this movie as best as the could.

That said, I really hope this DOESN'T open the door for more edgy comics... They're just silly in retrospect.

There's not too many comic characters who are popular/well known enough that share similarities as far as the joking, murdering, swearing or overall raunchiness Deadpool does. The doors it opens are probably going to just be on the more violent side. For example Wolverine slashing people up in a movie or Hulk ripping someones arm off. Things like that have generally been a no go so it appeals to families, not just adults. Deadpool has potentially proven catering to an adult audience can be similarly successful.

The comedic timing and style Ryan Reynolds showed meshed so well with the character of Deadpool. I don't know if violence is the key as shown in the most recent Punisher movie which was extremely violent and extremely awful.

I don't think other movies have to be overly violent just because they can, but a more accurate portrayal of their strengths would be a breath of fresh air. In the movies to date, we've only really seen glimpses of the characters abilities. Like Wolverine stabbing Rogue through the shoulder in the 1st X-Men movie.

The original Blade movie was very well done imo. It didn't go out of its way with overdone violence, blood or swearing, but at the same time didn't shy away from it just to cater to a younger audience. Thats what I would want to see from some future Marvel movies, even if it's a reboot or stand alone franchise is the Marvel universe.

Both Wolverine movies were terrible.

Even with the 3rd one being R, I doubt it'll be better unless they get new writers/director.

I'd have to go back and watch the first one, but the one WITH Deadpool in it was just awful. I like Jackman but he's gotta ask for better support on these things.

I actually downloaded a screen back in the day that didn't have the CGI complete, and man....that was tough to watch.

That's a good point. Over the years, I've tried envisioning someone other than Reynolds playing the role and never settled on anyone else. He was born to play Deadpool. Everyone got a tiny taste of the future in X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Reynolds' pre-augmentation wise-cracking and sword work but that was it. The powers that be screwed much of the rest of the movie along with Wade Wilson's character.

I haven't seen a live action Punisher movie yet that has remotely done any justice to Frank Castle's character whatsoever.

I remember that. It had stuff like "Claws extend here" in bright red letters and the reactor scene at the end was completely unfinished. Was cool to watch just to sort of see the unfinished product and what it looks like before they work their magic. The movie itself was underwhelming though.

That techo blood shower at the start of the movie was ticking a couple of those boxes.

I wanted this movie to be made forever ago, but I didn't think it would happen after Origins butchered his character. I was hoping for it to make Ant-Man money ($180M domestic) and was amazed when it passed every X-Men movie made (Currently $240M domestic).

It is on my must see soon list. I think Reynolds as Deadpool is a great fit.
Makes it easy to convince my wife to go and she hates comics... and his humor is perfectly placed for the role.

This movie was exactly what it needed to be.

A+ movie, incredibly well done.
Had more fun with this movie that I've had in a long time.

If you can squeamish the stuff like language and violence, then it will be quite an enjoyable movie indeed!

If this is an A+ movie, then what are classics like Gone With The Wind or The Wizard of Oz. Same level as those?
