Just franchise him. Very simple.

YepThey could always franchise him which isn't a bad idea.

Great point.
Honestly, I won't be a "complete believer" until he does it after he get's paid. I know that sounds horrendously pessimistic, but I've seen guys fall off following their big pay day far too often to dismiss it. Contract year, unfortunately, is a thing. Most of us aren’t going to make any comparisons with great DEs from past Cowboys or other teams, but 9 sacks in 6 games. More importantly, when was the last time a Cowboy had a sack in the first 6 games of the year. Despite a weak defense overall, no serious threat on the other side, and getting lots of attention, he continues to give great effort and hasn’t been shut out yet.
I’m impressed, but I’m still not a complete believer and won’t be without seeing him hit 14-15, but his consistency so far is encouraging.
He's had health issues which would make a franchise tag logical. He doesn't exactly strike the fear in opponents, but if he continues to keep playing this way he's undoubtedly a very good and productive pass rusher.

Isn't he proving it now?
This is what I hope the Cowboys do. Technically, he will still be in a contract year, but at least we will have made him string together two good years before paying him what his efforts thus far say he is worth...which will be alot, if he keeps this up...
Easy peasy. That's little monies. No worries fans.
That's true but I tried not to post anything about that issue so peeps don't get mad hereIrving's attitude and public comments about the anthem, etc. aren't winning him any points with Jerry.
One year prove it deal in 2018...
You mean franchise tag right, because there's a 0% chance he signs a 1 year deal for less.
Assuming he plays 16+ games and has 12+ sacks? Then yeah maybe so...
barring an injury or a completely epic collapse, I don't see how he doesn't get 15 or so.

It's called a franchise tag.
People been saying it for weeks
