I believe releasing Spencer in order to sign Dumervil long term would make a lot more sense, than hoping that Spencer can make the transition back to the 4-3 and hoping that he can produce at a high level in non contract years...

Get it done Jerry.

Ware + Hatcher + Ratliff + Dumervil

Championship
You can't release Spencer. He signed his tag to protect himself.

Remember when Jeff Ireland tried to convince us that Montavius Stanley was the real jewel of that 2005 Louisville DL and the reason Dumervil had 20 sacks. He was positively giddy in that post draft interview. But then again, he was giddy over Skyler Green too.:lmao2:

Exactly, since Spencer signed the tag we are on the hook for $10 million unless we trade him.

Now the team that trades for him can either assume the tag and pay Spencer the $10 million or they can work out a long term contract with him.

Either way, Spencer either gets a long term contract or he gets $10 million.

Maybe it is, Maybe it is not.

Either way IF he is released they will have Dwight Freeney in to replace him in a heartbeat.

Elway is a pretty good GM. They want to keep him but that contract is a bit crazy.

Dumerville was slated to make 12 million this year, and it would have been guaranteed at 4pm ET today.

Elway said: "It's not all about dollars. But when it's way out of whack? Then it's so out of whack that you've got to say: That (salary) can't be it," Elway said Thursday, according to the Denver Post. "Especially when you look at the market and what's out there now. It's so far out of whack. Hopefully, he realizes that."

Dumervil signed a six-year, $61.5 million contract in 2010 when Josh McDaniels was coaching the team and before Elway joined the Denver front office.

Wow I didn't expect this. Dumervil is a great pass rusher but since spencer signed his tender we can't back track on it now and release him. We'd have to trade him and that other team will have to pay him the tag price if they can't work out a deal. Will never happen. I'd love to have dumervil in the fold but can't happen with spencer back

Dumerville would need to play at Weak-Side DE (Ware's position) in Kiffin's scheme. Spencer will be playing at Strong-Side DE.

Elvis Dumervil agreed to salary reduction, smartly. Remains in Denver.

Still helps us in contract talks, money keeps getting lower for a long term deal for spencer

Elvis Dumervil deal also includes a $3.5 million guarantee on the 2nd day of league year in 2014.

I'm impressed with Elway and the Bronco's. He basically told Dumervil its my way or the highway and Dumervil said it was the highway and he must've realized Elway wasn't kidding. That would've been a HUGE loss for them.

Or jump off a bridge.

I doubt they have the heart to jump off a bridge lol. That would mean they would no longer be able to complain about the moves the Cowboys "aren't making" and they could no longer be armchair GM's.

Yea i'm kind of confused what's going on here....he was already on the team. How can they have enough time to cut him but not have a enough time to file his paperwork in time?

Is this really just as easy as re-signing him?

$4.9 million in dead money because he did not get his homework in time.

Welcome to Denver Mr. Freeney.
